Hi Folks,

I never forgot Exodites and promised myself that when I would be skilled enough, I would launch myself in the creation of this promising faction.

And so it happened...

http://www.stephane.info/res/article/exodite_lord/thumbnail_Lord_on_mountain.jpg

More info on the context of this project here (http://www.stephane.info/show.php?code=exodite_project) (or here (http://www.stephane.info/show.php?code=exodite_project&lg=fr) for a french version). And of course a full article on the beast above - an Exodite Lord (http://www.stephane.info/show.php?code=exodite_lord) in its full glory - because believe me, he didn't come alone! (there's a french version here (http://www.stephane.info/show.php?code=exodite_lord&lg=fr) too.)

More articles are on the way, but will be released at my pace - ie, in a couple months... I know how hard waiting can be! :p

The Eldar dont look "feral" enough in my opinion. Looks too much like a Craftworld Eldar on a Dinosaur. I wouldve gone with some Wood Elf parts to mix it up.

Its vety nicely painted though and still a great piece, just not entirely fulfilling its potential.

As a long time Eldar player I'm in awe. This is one of the best looking Exodite models I've seen.

Clever use of the warwalker/platform bits I must say. Looking forward to more pictures.

Well, here is a global reply!

@ Luthien & Escobar: Your arguments for a log are... err... very good. I'll have to weight the workload of a log here against the price of a pair of bodyguards and a good disguise. We'll see.

@Karlon: Indeed, my view of the Exodite is far from the "usual" Wood Elves In Space version. I explain the reason touroughly in the Project Exodite (http://www.stephane.info/show.php?code=exodite_project) article. I'll happily read your comments.

@Quin 242: the next beast is the Exodite Knight - as opposed to the Exodite Lord above. In a word, a smaller Exodite mounted on a metal cold one, much closer to Mike McVey conversion. But I plan to have several of them.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid this first model is perhaps the most spectacular of the whole army. But the rest will be cool too, I'll do my best!

That is a great model, I like that very much. 9/10 Pic could have been a bit more close up.

Just thinking. You could almost do this army using the kroot army list?

Kotrin
07-05-2007, 15:51
Kroot? I never thought of Kroot. Aren't they a bit lacking regarding the monstrous creatures dept? What's worth a Great Knarlock (sp?) in a game?

Luthien

have you done a log yet ...

the all bikes dark angels army could work. Or maybe a godzilla nid army

I figure you've already looked at 4th ed Eldar, and discarded it for your own reasons.

I really like your conversions, that's the best armored dragon I've seen (thank god you didn't use a lizardman howdah).

The riders though, they just seem plain in comparison, being unmodified Shining Spears.

Now... you know the 2nd ed art of the exodites, yeah?

http://www.electric-rain.net/w40kRPG/Pix/DragonKnight.jpg

Have you ever considered making the riders more like that?
It seems they don't have cone helmets

Kotrin

Thanks for the neat picture.

I know I could have opted for more "baroque" riders - and perhaps I will in the future - but it implies much more work. Tooling White Metal is really a pain. Even removing the hemlet of a Shining Spear is a modelling feat.

Very nice!!! I Like the idea converting a Carnosaur into a Exodite 'Work horse' ...

I'll built my owne ;)

Forget the Kodex Kroot on this one and turn directly to the Codex Exodites mentioned on the first page. Great Knarlocs are not monsterous (only in DoW) and the specifics go in another direction (evolution etc).

That's really cool! I personally prefer what you've done here to more feral interpretations I've seen in the past. Excellent stuff! :)

I'm slightly busy at the moment but I'll try to create a project log as soon as possible. Thank you all for your support and suggestions!

Simply brilliant, will you be using them in games?

i can't think of anything in the eldar codex you can use as a proxy.

Turbo_MMX
10-05-2007, 13:19
What about a wraithlord as a proxy for the carnosaur?

And your right the great knarloc is not monsterous but they are S6 Rending :D

However you could always sub in the actual carnosaur rules from the creature feature for it :)

guardian plastics are better for conversion the backpacks are easily sliced off. If you ever consider doing 'baroque' exodites, guardians are an excellent base.

I hope to see more of your army, that warwalker rig on the carnosaur is just... perfect.

Savnock

Awesome work. The fitting of the tech parts to the Carnosaur is top-notch: you make them seem like one kit quite smoothly.

As for rider/etc, may I make a suggestion? I use DE bodies without te helmets, with every bare Elf head I can. Rebreathers help, and the crew heads/bodies from the Falcon kit are great. If you cut all the skulls and a few of the spike off, they're pretty baroque.

And lots of folks do use the Kroot Mercenary rules for their Exodites. Mine (WIP, will post soon) are DE bodies on foot, accompaied by Cold Ones as Kroot Hounds. Although giving up an FA slot is always a bitch if you're mixing them into a regular Eldar force, they're realy good alongside other infiltrators like Scorpions and Pathfinders, or in an assaulty Eldar force to balance out mech units.

In an all-Kroot-rules Exodite force, you have even more freedom. Vultures can be represented well by riders on the old WHFB Terradons. You've got a wonderful Great Knarloc replacement there already. You'll probably want a Master Shaper with meltagun and wings to take out tanks, maybe a Shaper Council loaded similarly plus a PW or two.

And Eviscerators on everything, of course. I'm using the Biting Blade bit from the Scorps Exarch (which should be easy to get in trade, as everyone uses the claw instead).

&*edit: OMFG, you have _three_ of them. You are officially the boss Exodite.

kikkoman
16-05-2007, 18:35
For what rules to use, Blood Angels could work, their troop assault marines have stats good for representing a dragon knight.

Death Company with jump packs can represent an elite form of Dragon Knights, the Chaplain a Master Knight that leads them.

Furioso Dread can be the Exodite lord, or maybe a tooled up HQ with jump pack or bike.

Kotrin
17-05-2007, 09:17
I didn't think of Blood Angels... Interesting. I'll have a look to their latest army list.

The best would be a codex with a number of Monstrous Creatures, but apart from tyranid, there aren't many. Sure, with its extra armor, the Lord could count as a Dread.

El Presedente
17-05-2007, 10:16
I'm not sure about blood angels, I mean the exodites don't wear power armour do they?

Idaan
17-05-2007, 17:37
Now that's a great conversion!
But I can see your problem with army list. How about going for the best from two worlds, ie: Eldar with Kroot allies?
