I am about to join a campaign at my local hobbyshop and am thinking about playing Dwarf Treasure Hunters. I have played them before and seeing as how the point of being in Mordheim is to get rich, I think they are a great race to play.

So here is my list...

HEROS
Dwarf Noble
pistol, axe, dagger, helmet

Engioneer
pistol, hammer, dagger, helmet

Troll Slayer
axe*2

Troll Slayer
axe*2

HENCHMEN
Thunderer
crossbow, hammer, dagger

Beardling
spear

HIRED SWORDS
Pit Fighter

Halfling Cook

Bounty Hunter

Total GCs: 501

The objective for the first one or two games before my lads get tough, as lame as it may be, is to throw the Halfling and the Beardling in front, let them die and rout before things get hairy. If I can take a couple models out with shooting great, if not, as long as my Heros survive I'll be making a but load of money.

The Hired Swords are there because I love them. This warband can acturally afford to buy some really nice ones and I plan on starting with some. They also help because Dwarves start with bad stats and these guys make up for that. If I can help it I wont rout until the Bounty Hunter gets his man. This will just add to my money pile.

If I get a skill for my Engineer after the first game I am going to give him weapons training and buy him a Blunderbuss and soon after dueling pistols. Some people like to give him a crossbow but I like running him around with pistols and the range on the blunderbus gets improved too!!!

C&C very welcome.

why the halfling?

Get him after you get to 12 models.

Also, that's 500GC? 6 models?

FYI: Blunderbuss is a 1 shot weapon. once each game. Not something to rely on.

I have the halfling because he costs half the amount a Beardling w/ Axe does.

It is six dwarves and 3 Hired Swords! The Hired Swords took up 85gc.

From my experience the Pit Fighter is the most economical Hired Sword in the game. He is worth twice his weight in gold crowns!

The Halfling wont get good until he gets an extra BS or a Skill but he is so cheap I might as well start with him.

The Bounty Hunter isnt as good as the Pit Fighter but he can make money which, if I am not mistaken, Dwarves are in the buisness of making moeny.

If the Bounty Hunter captures his man; 1)you dont have to pay is upkeep cost. 2) you get to ransome the captured hero for Gold. Therefore he makes money!

Yes Blunderbus is only one shot but when Dwarf tactics call for drawing your enemy into a narrow street so they cant flank you. A blunderbuss that can shoot 22" can hit 4 or 5 dudes! Not something to rely on but worth the skill to get!

If it is moneymaking hirelings you are after, you could do a lot worse than the Merchant detailed here (http://www.specialist-games.com/assets/merchant.pdf) on the official Specialist Games website.

I am also fond of the bounty-hunter - a fantastic addition to any warband. I find that I more often ask for rare trade than mere gold though. Lucky charms, gromril daggers, Rabbit's feet, that sort of thing.

Less gold spent by your opponent, more rare trade for you; better for everyone really.

Get a Merchant...

Yeah, I pretty much always get a Merchant by the end of the campaign. But early on I have to scrap together wins and save up for more Drarves... as you can see I am only starting with 6.

This is just a starting warband. I hope that after a few games I'll have more Crossbows and maybe a Merchant too.

Cheers

I'm starting a Mordheim gaming session with my fiance, and she plans on playing dwarfs. There is no dwarf warband in the standard rulebook, so, where could one find rules for a Dwarf warband list?

Disregard that, I sneaked into the specialist game section of the GW homepage.. the link was a bit obscure... but I managed to see it..

Yeah Dwarfs are pretty sweet if you like gear :). The biggest down side of them is the first two or three games before all your guys stat leveling up. What I do is take a lot of Hired Swords and very few Dwarfs so that I get lots of money quick and if you get the right Hired Swords they will pay for themselves with speed and superior hand to hand fighting.
