View Full Version : vampire counts for nemesis crown

13-05-2007, 15:10
i just started a new vampire counts army. and what better time then this to start my first project log.:p i was hoping to get 1000pts painted before the "nemesis crown" campaign starts.

any way, this first pic is of a pack of ghouls:

i painted these at a 6 hr painting comp. that was at my local GW yesterday..as you can probally tell... i didn't win :cries: but i managed to get a fair bit done.

just have to finish the highlights and metallics + 6 more

almost finished converting a regiment of black knights. i'll post pics tomorrow.

13-05-2007, 23:35
They did look good. I would of voted for you if you got the blades finished in time :P

14-05-2007, 00:02
Looking good man, always good to see a fellow vampire counts player throwin' down a log.

14-05-2007, 09:38
just thought i might add a lil' up date... went out and got some chaos warhounds (re:dire wolves) today, and managed to finish off the green stuff work on my black knights.

here's some a pics:

didn't get any painting done today, though i should have something finished tomorrow ;)

14-05-2007, 10:10
The black knights look great. If they#'re painted as well as your ghouls they'll look fantastic. The snowy bases fit the colours of the ghoul unit very well. Looking forward to the wolves too, the chaos hounds are some of my favoutire models inthe current range!

14-05-2007, 15:40
Loving the black knights, what are they made from?

I can see chaos heads and I'm guessing Bret bodies but I'm not sure.

14-05-2007, 18:00
the black knight conversions are very cool and the standard of the ghould painting is awesome. This army should turn out to be very good

14-05-2007, 18:07
Nice, but could you make your pictures a tad bigger?

Angel Robertson
14-05-2007, 22:41
The ghouls look very good from what i can see but i agree try get some bigger pics!!

14-05-2007, 23:58
The Black knights are great. Looks like chaos warrior heads, brettonia knight horses and bodies with zombie parts. I also want to do a VC army but I'm trying to wait out the new stuff next year, soooooo tempting though.

15-05-2007, 03:02
hehe, i know what you mean HiveTrygon, but i've had most of this army sitting 'round for close to a year now, just begging to be finished.:p

and anyone who wanted to know the black knights are made from bret. knights, with a few zombie additions and some spare chaos heads.

thanks for the kind words :)

P.S: i'll try to make the pics a lil' bigger next time

16-05-2007, 14:03
time for another update... i didn't get as much painting finished as i had hoped, but here's another wip shot of my black knights:

sorry 'bout the dark pic, but my camera doesn't seem to want to cooperate

i ran out of super-glue so the bases will have to wait till tomorrow to be finished. And i still need to find a good undead skin tone... anyone got any ideas? i was thinkin' of something with a purple hue

vampires are cool!
16-05-2007, 14:24
Looking good my man!
Keep it up, whats the rest of your army sellection.

18-05-2007, 04:20
well, the rest of the army will be...

Hero: nerco:lvl 2,book of arkhan 125
necro:lvl 2,black periapt 115

Core: (X16) ghouls + ghast 138
(X5) dire wolves 50
(X20) skeletons:light armour,full command 225

Special: (X5) black knights 165

Rare: (X4) irongut ogres 180? (not quite sure 'bout the points cost of this one)

if anyones got any good changes or tips on how to make this list a lil' more effective, then feel free to comment ;)
anyway, i've just finished putting together 20 skeletons. Now i just have to wait for their shields to be shipped in from the UK :(

18-05-2007, 15:18
I love what you are doing with your Army (model- and color-wise)!

Its very close to what I picture my VC Army to look and feel like.

21-05-2007, 13:08
well, i've been busy over the weekend (with "real life" things :( ) so i haven't got all that much to show. But, luckily i just finished off my hounds. so here's a lil' pic:

hope you all like them. personally i think they need a lil' more gore
i also managed to finish of the bases for my black knights, but i still haven't found a rotting flesh tone that i'm happy with.... however i picked up some zombies on saturday, so i have pleanty of undead skin to practice on.

21-05-2007, 13:43
Those knights are excellent, and yes, can we have bigger pics please? my eyesight isnt what it was...:cries:

22-05-2007, 11:51
Yay! i finished my first zombie tonight.
here's some pics:

i wasn't sure whether to go with Altdorf or Nuln colours..... anyone know which one is going to be the main empire army in the campaign?

22-05-2007, 14:34
i wasn't sure whether to go with Altdorf or Nuln colours..... anyone know which one is going to be the main empire army in the campaign?
Talabheim/Tabecland I would imagine, red and white/red and yellow I think are the colours.

22-05-2007, 14:55
The zombie looks very cool, good idea to use empire colours. However, some blue is visible in the skin.

Keep up the good work

23-05-2007, 02:21
some blue is visible in the skin.

I assumed its razielthegreat's way of depicting undead flesh... But hmm... it could stand to be more purple than blue, IMHO.

23-05-2007, 02:26
tastyfish: that was actually the third army i was thinkin' of. (great minds think alike, ehh?) But i'm quite pleased with the altdorf colours, so i think i might say with them.

ninners: the blue on the skin is from a blue ink wash (may change that to purple), not from over zealous dry brushin' :p but thanks anyway

well, i'm off to paint a swarm of zombies, hopefully i'll have some pics to show tonight.

Alex Under
23-05-2007, 08:06
The ghouls are great, and the bases fit the army nicely, I'm dying to see skeletons based with the black soil and the snow patches.

BTW; Love the FC Barcelona Zombie. Força Barça! :D

23-05-2007, 15:59
HAZAR!!, i managed to finish off my first 5 zombies today/tonight. it's almost 2 in the mornin' here :( , but i was determined to finish them tonight.
here's a pic:

as always let me know what ya think...

*note* i really have to learn to paint quicker

23-05-2007, 16:10
ninners: the blue on the skin is from a blue ink wash (may change that to purple), not from over zealous dry brushin' :p but thanks anyway

OK, i didnt realize, i think as you suggested purple would be better than blue though.

The ranked zombie look cool so far, the one without a head is my favourite! Make another one where the head is on the floor or in his hand!

Keep up the good work

23-05-2007, 17:46
What do we want?

When do we want it?

23-05-2007, 17:47
Or make another with his head stiched on back to front? :P
very cool painting i like the colures.

23-05-2007, 20:13
What do we want?

When do we want it?

Lol, funny cos' it's true...

Well we don't get many VC logs and these guys are excellent. Keep it up, can't wait for progress :)
Aflo (Adam)

27-05-2007, 15:38
i know, i know, i've been a lil' slack on the up-dates. But fear not, i haven't completely forgotten about this lil' project.
To prove i haven't just been sitting around, here's some pics...

first up, more zombies:

next, i finally finished my black knights.. (kinda)
damn lighting washed out the standard!

and last, but not least: my temporary necromancer:

he'll adventually be replaced with the new empire wizards. when they get released, here in oz.... on the 27/6/07

as always let me know what ya think

27-05-2007, 15:47
I love that necromancer. That familiar is one of my favorite creepy little guys.

The Black Knights are outstanding.

28-05-2007, 01:31
great familiar!

28-05-2007, 06:38
The Zombie Standard is genious! Great job! I also like the Zombie Musician, he's dead, but his beard's still there! :p

Great models. :)

Firestorm Falcon
28-05-2007, 10:23
Very nice, some good progress the knights in particular look great.

vampires are cool!
28-05-2007, 12:57
Aww, the necromancer is cute!

28-05-2007, 14:50
keep the necromancer it's so cool :D

29-05-2007, 13:22
i'm glad to hear everyone likes my "necromancer". And thanks for the kind words 'bout the black knights.... i still think they need something else..maybe i'll paint icons on the shields, not to sure whether that would make them look a lil' busy though.
anyway, i didn't get any painting done today..i did manage to start the "iron gut" ogres today. they still need alot of work, but i'm happy how their coming along.
here's some very wip shots:

i would really appreciate some feed-back on these big suckers.
any & all coments are wecome.

29-05-2007, 14:31
looking sweet so far. I like the fact you are doing away with the gut shield.

29-05-2007, 17:34
looks awesome! what did you use for the weapons on the ogres? (the white board-thing)

regards AND

30-05-2007, 02:29
angelwing: yeah, i never really like the look of the "gut shields" even though these are supposed to be "iron guts" :p

the thing is, i still have to give them something to represent heavy armour..i think i'll do most of that by adding chainmail and maybe some shields on their shoulders... anyone else got any ideas?

And: the swords are made from a type of plastic called "plasticard" also known as "sheet styrene". it's great to make things like swords/axes. also quite good for 40k tanks. it comes in all sorts of shapes & sizes

Well, i recieved my shields for the skeleies this morning. i was surprised with how quickly they arrived :D
so, i can get to work painting swarms of skeletons now. i should have some pics tonight.

03-06-2007, 09:31
I can't wait to see how those Iron Gut's turn out. They look really promising.

Firestorm Falcon
03-06-2007, 19:30
Those ironguts look nice, you are obviously good with greenstuff so added chainmail could work.

04-06-2007, 12:59
well, i've been neglecting this lil' thread. (got side-tracked by 40k projects  )
so, it's 'bout time for an update. I've finished off quite a few skeletons... but, i'm not very happy with the final results. mainly, because i don't think the models look like their wearing "light armour". so, i've been thinkin' that i might change out most of the model for the new empire "state trooper" models.
anyway here's a pic, let me know what ya think:

Also i've almost finished off the green-stuff work on my "iron guts". i just have a few small bits to finish off. But....

i'm going inter-state tomorrow, on a lil' holiday to see my sister for her b'day. so i won't be able to work on my army 'till the 17th.
i'll see if i can finish off the "iron guts" tomorrow though, to give you all something to drool over, while i'm gone :D

Firestorm Falcon
04-06-2007, 15:48
The skellies look nice although you have a point about the light armour (or lack of it ;) ).

04-06-2007, 16:31
It's good to see another VC army taking shape. I'm especially impressed by the Iron Guts and Black Knights.

24-06-2007, 12:39
i finally got back from my lil' holiday last wednesday. (lasted a lil' longer then i thought it would) And just thought i'd let you all know that i haven't completely forgotten 'bout this thread.
i managed to finish some more ghouls, and a wight lord today.
so here's some pics:

i still need to do a lil' more work on the "dreg"

i still haven't finished the ogres. just have to sculpt some chain-mail and maybe even a lil' more armour. here's a few pics of the progress so far:

24-06-2007, 12:40
i also found this model in my bitz box, and thought it would make a sweet banshee... let me know what ya think.

24-06-2007, 13:00
nice stuff, good to see some updates. The ogres are looking very cool although I think they should be a bit more... er... dead?

You're right that banshee model is nice :D

Firestorm Falcon
24-06-2007, 14:04
That would indeed make a good banshee and I'm liking the wight lord. The red side of his shield could do with some neatening up though (trying to be helpful, not just nitpicking I hope  ).

27-06-2007, 09:34
i got some good news and some bad news... the bad news is that i haven't finished 1000pts, and the campaign starts today :( (well, it's not that bad i suppose)

And the good news is... i recieved my copy of the "empire reinforcement battalion" this mornin'. So i can get to work on my necromancers, and 20X skeleies.
i should have some pictures up tomorrow. :D

ninners: you have a point, but i think they'll look a lil' more dead once i get some paint on 'em

firestorm falcon: yeah, the shield could probally use a slight clean-up.... but i'm a slacker :p

27-06-2007, 10:43
I think you would scream if someone shoved a metal pole up your @rse. :D

You made need to disguise that a bit with some swirling mist or something.

Joking aside she will make a great banshee.

01-07-2007, 16:15
well, it took me a lil' longer than expected, (i got side-tracked, again  ) But i finally managed take a photo of my new and improved skeletons. here's a pic:

and this is what i got side-tracked with:

It's a very wip shot of a "scratch-built" winged nightmare i've been working on. i also finished up making 2x necros, a mounted wight lord and a few spirit host bases.

it just occurred to me that this 1000pt army has blown out to 'bout 2000pts....oops, my bad :D

03-07-2007, 13:42
time for another lil' update.
finished off my banshee model as well as a wraith i had sittin' around....

hope you all like them.

The boyz
03-07-2007, 14:49
The Banshee and Wrath are looking very nice indeed, razielthegreat. I like the conversion work on the ogres, the greenstuffing looks great.

03-07-2007, 19:40
lovely stuff... the empire skellies are particularly nice.... and i'm looking forward to seeing the ogres completed

in a word... nice ;)

12-07-2007, 14:55
this log is turning into something way longer then i had expected.
But it's time for another (over-due) up-date.
first up is a pic of my spirit hosts:

next, skeleton command:
i still haven't finished the banner though... i'm not to sure whether to paint a big screaming skull, or something a lil' more empireish.... i'm open to suggestions.

also finished off my doom wolf for the dire wolves reg.:
not to pleased with the results though. think i could have taken a little more time with the blending..... meh

and last, but not least... my still very wip winged nightmare:
this is my first huge sculpt... i just hope it turns out presentable.

12-07-2007, 15:34
that winged nightmare is looking good so far, it has a great pose.

the banshee and wraith look like they are floating with the black background :D you can barely see the wire holding them

keep up the good work

12-07-2007, 16:41

I really like the spirit hosts, for the first time.. someone has active spirits!
Not the relaxed spirits GW makes, the ones that are as high as a kite :p
Instead of having three stoned bob marly's on the base, you got cool flaggelants! :D

13-07-2007, 01:38
wow, this log is fast becoming one of my all-time favorites! Great army concept razielthegreat! I'm very eager to see more!

The Banshee and Wraith looks pretty scary floating around like that!

Good job!

Commander titus
13-07-2007, 02:13
very nice indeed mate, espiceally the gouls hehe, cant wait to see the winged nightmare like ninners stated that is a fantastic Pose, are there going to be any models on the base of it Sort of a diarama feel to it? thanks keep up the good work!

13-07-2007, 02:29
thanks for all the kind words. :D
i'm going to be keeping the big beasties base quite plane, and barren. i'm going for a sort of cold/frozen wasteland. But, as always i'm open to suggestions.
talkin' about suggestions..... anyone got any cool ideas for the skeletons banner, i'm a lil' stumped.
anyway, i've finished up the ogres, and i'll be paintin' them tonight. i'll put up some before and after pics.

13-07-2007, 08:27
Perhaps a Zombie Griffon on the standard... That could look cool.

I'm loving your work so far, your sculpting is immense! Keep up the good work!

Firestorm Falcon
13-07-2007, 15:08
(you say "what?")

I can't wait to see the ogres.

Commander titus
13-07-2007, 16:32
Hmm, perhaps a top half of a skelenton for the banner, maybe a GS Candle inside the rib cage?

keep up the good work :D

14-07-2007, 03:08
ok, ok i know i said i'd up-date last night. But, i have a good excuse....the paint i was useing for the base-coat (dark flesh) on the ogres has gone a lil' funky, for some reason its lookin' orange :wtf: (of course i only noticed it once it had dryed  )
so, today i'm going down to my local GW to pick up a fresh pot.

meanwhile heres a pic of some zombies i finished awhile back, but forgot to post:
the middle zombie has long hair, which you can't see in the pic.

Firestorm Falcon
14-07-2007, 08:24
Nice zombs, unlucky with the colour changeing paint though.

14-07-2007, 11:01
Ooooh cute zombies!

14-07-2007, 12:19
good idea for the wraith. i might have to steal that one!
The army is coming together well. more please!

17-07-2007, 06:41
I finally managed to finish the iron guts (yay) But, there's a lil problem.....photobucket.com is having maintenance done. so, you'll all have to wait for pics. (sorry)
hopefully i should have them up later tonight.

17-07-2007, 07:58
Ta Da!

that was quicker then i thought it would be.

17-07-2007, 09:03
This is all looking good. Lots of clever selection and conversion of minis will amke this a unique and special army.

I bet they look good all together already.

17-07-2007, 11:32
Mmm great ogres! I love the back banner.

Firestorm Falcon
17-07-2007, 15:28
Very nice ogres, a great improvement on the out of the box.

24-07-2007, 06:52
up-date time! i just finished off a couple of my heros, a necrarch vampire & one of my necromancers. here's some pics let me know what ya think.
first up is a necro with the book of arkhan:
i think i might do some sort of free-hand on his back, but i'm not to sure what.... anyone got any good ideas?
and my necrarch vamp:

i still need to finish up the bases.... But, i'm feelin' quite lazy today

i'll see if i can get a decent group shot of the army, later tonight.... if i can be bothered

vampires are cool!
24-07-2007, 07:21
Looking great. That necromancer kicks ass. Wheres the book from?

24-07-2007, 07:48
it's a book that comes with the new empire wizards. :D

Firestorm Falcon
24-07-2007, 08:11
Nice use of the wizard kit dude, very impressive necromancer. Is that some freehand writing in the book I see ?

24-07-2007, 09:04
Aye, that be some free-hand. i tried taking a photo of the book on its own. But, my camera doesn't seem to want to cooperate. :cries:

24-07-2007, 14:53
awsome work, I love your creativity in your models. your heros look great . keep up the good work.

24-07-2007, 15:19
That is a nice necromancer. The flagellant's head has just the right haggard look, methinks. Kinda tempting me to have a go myself.

*wallet squeaks in terror*

24-07-2007, 18:30
Ooh, very impressive stuff :)
I really like the combining of the Empire and Undead bits, and that neromancer is looking brilliant.
Oh, and did I mention the painting is great to? ;)

24-07-2007, 19:06
Maybe just throw some trim on the cloak? Or, if you are up to it, a skull motif on the center of the cloak.

24-07-2007, 23:01
great necromancer. Excellent use of the kit.

25-07-2007, 03:23
thanks for all the kind words, i'm glad to hear you all like the necromancer... he's one of my favs too. :p
mousekiller i was thinking of something like the skull mofit... but whenever i try painting skulls they turn-out rather cartoony, kinda like the ork skulls
i might just stick to doing some simple edgeing.

25-07-2007, 10:05
i was getting a lil' bored painting undead flesh, and i had some spare saurus warriors lying 'round. (from one of my many e-Bay frenzies ) so.....
i bring you, an undead saurus dun dun da:

i really enjoyed making/painting this lil' critter, its the first time i've actually painted a lizardman.(it only took me about 40mins, from mixing GS to baseing:D)
i'm quite happy with how it came out. (and it helps me bulk-out my zombie reg. in-game which is a plus)

C&C are always welcome

The boyz
25-07-2007, 10:51
Nice work on that Saurus, Razielthegreat. I like the exposed bone around the eye socket.

25-07-2007, 14:12
Very impressive Saurus; the piece of the skull showing is excellent :D

26-07-2007, 05:41
great work with the lizardman, love to see more of these guys

26-07-2007, 11:18
What a great conversion!

How exactly did you cut into the plastic to do that? I might have something similar in mind for one of my armies...! :)

Although in my oppinion you could have painted the saurus to look more... 'dead'. Its still great though!

26-07-2007, 13:17
although in my oppinion you could have painted the saurus to look more... 'dead'?yeah, i thought the same thing just after i finished the skin-tone  D'oh
think it might have looked better with green skin (chaos black+camo green)

ohh well, i've got plenty more... if i feel the need to re-do him. :D

P.S: i made the gap in his head with a pin vice and craft knife. it was quite easy (just watch your fingers:eek:)

27-07-2007, 08:02
Looky what i found kickin' around in my bitz box!
Its Vlad von carstein himself!! :D isabella is on her way too. i just need to finish up some gems on her cloak which are givin' me some grief.

27-07-2007, 16:39
wow, your army is looking amazing, wish mine was that good
