View Full Version : old1eye's painting log

well, everyone and their best friend seems to have a painting log, so I might as well jump on the bandwagon
lots of time coming up, exams nearly over, so I should be able to get quite a bit done.
and...erm... having a painting log might actually inspire me to get some stuff done...

firstly, my new nid colour scheme. already shown in the other board, but anyway:

some older stuff; painted these a couple of months back with gunky paints... so they're not very smooth...

firstly, the last model I painted - tzeentch lord on disc.
I like the flames, but the rest of the model is crap, tbh.
(bit overexposed...)

(this 4 images per thread is a pain...)

finally, what I'm up against...

most of the models you see were painted a looong time ago.

question: is the Tzeentch lord moving so fast he's on fire? :ha:
looks like you've got a lot of work ahead of you, good luck!

nids is teh best

QFT ;)

I believe they're meant to be magic flames or something...

anyways, just started a ravener, I'll post that up when I've finished it.
I have yet to fnd a skin highlight for my nids, so that's another challenge. Suggestions are VERY welcome.

Looking good so far

i dont know who but someone told me to add dwarf flesh t purple to get a highlight :wtf: it looked good though

paint the FW dread next! please! :D

heh, someone noticed!
I'll paint that up once I've got a bit more experience. Apparently resin models are a pain to strip if you screw up...

ravener coming as soon as I find some superglue! plus pics of my first ten gaunts.

OMGZ0RS! PIctar5!!!!!111

me first 11 gaunts. enjoy ;)
I'm very happy with how they turned out. They look quite good as a horde. I batch-painted 10 of them, and it took me 5 hours, which ain't bad...
only 70 more to go now *sigh*

Looking good, the highlights on the carapace look longer which is better

good luck with the 70 others

16-05-2007, 17:48
i like them a lot, but how come the h/lights on the termagaunt in the corner are so very differnet to the rest?

that was my first test model. Haven't got round to repainting the carapace yet.

picking up a new hive tyrant this weekend, and the gotrek/white dwarf/bugman model if 3.00 on saturday isn't too late and they sell my reservation...
also might experiment with varnishes.

woah... no comments...
anyway, rant time.
so... last weekend I go along to GW to buy some new paints. And I get asked whether I want to reserve a White Dwarf model. OK, I thought, that sounds interesting. So... I ask when its due to be released and get told today.
it wasn't. Theres a whole new range of orc models, but the new model is released on Thursday... when I have a full day of exams.
Rant over, I did pick up a new hive tyrant today. Pictars tomorrow when I start painting it.

Good god man, they look great. If that Tzeentch model was what you painted before these, then you've improved vastly. They look awesome as a bunch, and I'm looking forward to the Tyrant. Are you going to be doing anything special with it? Or will it just be standard?

19-05-2007, 22:50
I'll spend a slight bit longer than normal on it, but I'm not going to jazz up the base or anything. The model is nice enough already IMHO (unlike the old one, which was a ripoff of the queen from Aliens, and looked ridiculous with the oversized headpiece and tail)

you should vary the highlighting between spawns, one termagaunt spawn be the long type, the next be like your test model, etc. They will still match but will be distinguishable. Thats my idea at least, as I see variation between tyranid spawns being completely reasonable.

I were ill today. I'm going to look on the bright side and see it as nurgle's favour. but it means I didn't get to start painting my hive tyrant.
heres a piccy of him assembled and lookin' mean though:

Amazing carapace striping, it totally rocks. Can't wait to see it on that large Tyrant! I hope you're feeling better, too.:)
