I am currently painting up a LotR force based on the force based in Dul Guldur in The Fall of the Necromancer. I wanted to start a project log to document my progress. I have already painted up some of the force but have more to go. I'll start with the completed models:

Eep! Your spiders look disgusting! I guess that's a good thing for a spider, though.

Well painted so far! Keep it up, I want to see more of my favourite LotR army list. :)

Cheers

Very nice stuff, youve put a lot of detail into those plastic orcs I dident know they had that much detail. The colour you chose for those spiders is spot on, very creepy.

The Muster of Dul Guldur continues to grow. Here are more orcs with shields and spears, and some orcs with two-handed weapons:

I do not like duplicate models so I converted two more two-handed weapon orcs. Here are the pictures of the conversions:

Lastly, here is a banner bearer I'll be painting:

Another new edition to The Muster of Dul Gulder. This is my Orc Shaman. I converted the model from the new goblin shaman(just a weapon swap, I didn't like his sword).

Hi, cool orcs you have there.
Castellans, when painted dark, also look good, too bad they are so terrible ruleswise.
The dol guldur list lacks heavy hitters (even the weakened Sauron is pretty easy to take out), so what will you tactics be?

Hey love the Shaman he fits with the theme of the army 100%, also the Orcs are amazing!!! How you have made them look se dynamic, dark, unified and evil is very iressive...note to self get out Orc box from last month and repaint :D

I think your models would benefit from being a little bit further away from the camera. Then it would be easier to get a better impression of the figure.

They look good, don't get me wrong. I think they would just look a bit better when not so close.

A tip: Bases. Once you've applied the static grass, and it's dry, drybrush the whole base with, say Graveyard Earth. That will give the grass a slightly more withered look rather than a newly sprung patch of finest turf. It's more appropriate for an evil army, maybe.

Cool! Thank you guys for the feedback. Tactics wise I have had a lot of luck with the spiders, but they have to pick their fights (thankfully with their movement and ability to ignore terrain the often can) but the S 5, A 2, and Venom are great. I was considering adding a Troll Chieften for some added muscle (plus the model is great).
I think think the pictures of the six orcs with shields and spears are definately too close, and I think the most recent photos are an improvement. I may indeed try "dirtying" up the static grass, its a nice idea (thanks for the tip).

Funny you mention it. I have two more LotR projects I would like to tackle in the future. One is a good force. I want to make a force of adventuring dwarves featuring Murin and Drar (I would really like to find some fiction on these two), and I would also like to do a Mumak.

More orcs for the Muster:

Two converted orcs with two handed weapons (one weapon and head swap, and one weapon swap). The plastics made these very easy to do.

The standard of the Necromancer:

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e274/eengaming/dulguldur025.jpg

I have to take a break and work on some other stuff (Origins painting comp. entries), but I will be working on at least one more model for this force (I will not reveal it yet, but it rhymes with rider scream), and I plan on painting up some dwarves and hobbits.
Thanks for looking,
Rico

Do you know how good these look? so good that as soon as I saw them I wanted to go back and repaint my Dol guldur force!

Nice crisp painting, the shaman is my favourite too.
This will become a nice force once completed.
I feel more people should highlight their lotr models, it's not so common as with warhammer, but you certainly pull it off.
Nice colour scheme too btw.

Good stuff eengaming, nice crisp job all round but especially on the Marshal. My particular favourites are the spiders though... I love the sickly colour... nice and creepy the way they should be.

Excellent work, keep it up :)

Behold my nercomantic powers!!! I finally got to work on that Spider Queen (so many painting distractions... Dark Heresey, Dark Age, Hordes, Random Reaper minis!!!). I haven't had a chance to take regular pics, but a friend of mine took some in game pics from a game we played on Sunday (the Spider Queen scenario from the Dul Guldur book).

Feedback welcome.

Those figures look great! For some weird reason, I always feel that Evil figures with black rimmed bases look better than Evil figure with brown rimmed bases...weird...

Looks like you also had a nice game! Keep up the great work!
