How does this outnumbering works for the goblins when they charge elves?

Lets say 2 units of 30 goblins charge a unit of 20 elves, do i make a fear test for the 2 unitss of goboes, or do they count as being 60goboes to 20elves, and there for no fear test?

You'd have to test for each unit separately. They won't be counted together until they're actually in combat and you're doing combat resolution.

Each unit is seperate, and tests seperately. There is nothing to suggest that you would add the unit strengths together.

Ya you take a test for each unit of goblins.

Without having the Orc and Goblin book, thinking of how GW enact this rule does my 'ead in! Does that mean in a unit of 21 Spearmen beat 20 Goblins in combat, they auto-break them? And is it number of models or unit strength?

It is Fear in all respects, and I'm pretty sure it's based on US.

Yes, the goblins auto-break. Yes, outnumbering is worked out with regards to unit strength.

so a unit of 20 elves, fight a unit of 2000000 orcs. then a unit of 39 goblins want to charge the elves in the flank... but they have to take a fear test... this is the part i dont like.

Dude, that's when elves are at their scariest! They are holding off a billion orcs BY THEMSELVES. That's really scary. It's like Legolas in LOTR. He killed like a billion orcs all by himself. That's pretty scary for an orc!

How do you not understand this? It's just like ANY other unit that is facing something that causes fear. Your stupid goblins are afraid of tall, pointy eared panzies. Deal with it!

According to elf players this is no big deal that goblins have an extra fear rule vs 3 of the 15 supported armies, or 20% of the supported armies. And goblins should not have that figured into their base cost, cause it's not strength or toughness. So your goblin with a spear and shield really is properly priced at 1pt less than an empire spearmen.

i really know this shouldnt belong in this thread, but why exactly do goblins fear elves? i dont hav the orc and goblins army book and im curious...

IIRC goblins find elves 'ugly' which therfore makes them 'scary'

Because they smell funny too

Homophobia.

The gobbos don't fear being killed by a Elf, they fear being captured...

Nop, they fear them just because of their smell (6th Ed. O&G Armybook)

Essentially, to a goblin, an elf is a fay and spiritual creature. They move in a wholly unnatural manner to them, behave in unusual ways, and can seemingly do things that only a ghost can do. From a goblin's perspective, an elf is one scary badass.

But not for a gnoblar. Makes total sense.

"How do you not understand this?"

You are not the social type are you? I asked a simple guestion, some one answered, and then peeps start talking about it.... its called a conversetion!

Be ware, virtually anything can be rationalized. For instance, Gnoblars don't have an ancestral connection with elves.

Homophobia.

I think that this is possibly the best explanation I have ever heard for this particular rule. It's never made sense to me otherwise. But an outright phobia of a conehead in drag who is likely to sodomize any poor goblin he captures, yep, that's scary.
