View Full Version : Scenario suggestion - Seven Samurai

Hi all,

I was thinking of trying out a new scenario over the next week.

Phoenix Lords and Eldrad Ulthran as the severn samurai. Their job would be to defend village in the centre of the board from a larger force. Enemy deployment zone would be all around.

Now by question is what should the attacking force compose of? If there are to many vehicles I think it would be very difficult for the Phoenix lords to win as only Maugan Ra and Feugan would really have tank busting ability.

I think 1750pts with an emphasis on infantry would be a good place to start as the attacking force.

technically it should be a chaos force attacking but you could play it as any army really, swapping in Prince Yriel against a Tyranid army might be fluffy but you'd loose the benefits of Eldrad with fortune and guide...

Thoughts / Suggestions.

From what I recall, I think it would be good to bar vehicles and heavy support.

Orks, tyranid, IG, DE, and necrons (Wolves of the Calla anyone?) would all work as enemy forces I think.

This could be like the 6th edition all Lord/Hero battle, against the horde.

Cool idea.

But one question does come up. Why a village?

Aye, it reminded me of that, too. Incidentally, is it still around in 7th Edition WFB (I only have the small rulebook.)

So yeah, this seems cool.

You want a really random, wierd idea along those lines?

I read something, a long time ago, about how some of the Fallen Dark Angels have tried to leave their pasts behind them, to live "normal" lives on whatever world they land on.

What about seven Fallen, or six Fallen plus Cypher, defending a village? That makes a bit more sense; imagine these men as Fallen that happened to settle on the same world, and who take up arms again to defend their home against (blah).

Just a thought. You'd have to buff the Fallen (the movie marines rules might be a little excessive, but giving them captain stat-lines and access to the armory, with no limits on relics, wouldn't be a bad place to start.

This idea based upon the film Seven Swords at all?

Cool Idea. I think it would be cool to have a huge mass of genestealers and gaunts charge in and have to defend those. That might be fun. This sounds like a great idea though.

hmmm just got the image of 7 space marine heroes (or perhaps these elusive movie marines) fighting 2000pts of Ork Infantry, now THAT would be fun

I really like that idea!

Would you have some provision for the villagers to lend a hand, like set bobby traps, etc, as in the movies?

I always wanted to play a 'Clash of the Titans' style game of Phoenix Lords agains 6 Imperial special characters.

The Seven Samurai were hired to defend a japanese village

No, it's based on the movie 'The Seven Samurai'

Hollywood did a remake of it called 'The Magnificent Seven'

It is the genre. You should be able to find one of these dvds at your local rental store:

Seven Samuri
The Magnificent Seven

Also, you can read Stephen King's Wolves of the Calla from his Dark Tower series.

Note that this is not like the movie "Zulu" at all; it is something different.

The big book's got no more rules than the little one, just a lot of background and pictures. It's nowhere near as good as the big 40K rulebook in this regard.

For Zulu, you need a dress uniform Guard regiment, and many Orks. Was done in 2nd ed...

Out of interest, I've heard several people refer to "movie marines". If you don't mind me going a touch OT, what are movie marines and where can I get the rules for them? They sound kinda fun...

Praetorians!!

Anyway, sorry about that.

I think that the Eldar v the IG would be a good one, as the Tyranid variant could swamp the lords alittle too easily with good close combat troops. Also, if you really want to play against Chaos add a unit of CSM as the leader and his main henchmen and have the normal IG represent cultists.

Jus remembered, why not just do a horde and i mean hode of plague zombies if you have a copy of the EOT book, alternatively if you want move variety then what about using the lost and damned list from the same book?

They're from the 300th issue of White Dwarf. It basically represnted the Space Marines from the background. Which equals horrifically unbalanced and unendingly hilarious.

Basically everything had rending, and the Space Marines could beat Khorne Lords in hand to hand.

Hi all,

Thanks for the encouragement. AS shin'keiro points out the idea was based upon The Seven Samurai (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047478/) and the multitude of films that it spawned.

We're going to play it as a fight against a Tyranid horde. Mainly stealers and gaunts of various types. Suspect we'll throw in a brood lord or two and maybe a tyrant if we can find one! Nothing to heavy though..

Most of the lords are close combat specialists.. Might take Yriel in this instance as it's a Tyranid horde I'll be facing.

Ah, the band of heroes vs the unending hordes of bad guys... I like it...!
Maybe something along the lines of some Smurf 'nid Hunters vs a 'nidzilla army...? Or perhaps a scenario with 7 SM characters against a large horde of whatever..? Like the Orks mentioned in a previous post...?

A little OT, but everyone should take a look at the Dark Tower series... Just finished the first book(for the second time) and I'm completely in love with it.
