I have no clue but a friend of mine has forty (4 units of ten) and that seems to work pretty well.

Exactly as many as you need ;)

Depending on the size of the game it varies. For me I like to field a faster, more close combat oriented army, but I will never leave home without at least 20 of these guys. I would say that 20+ warhawks with bows+glade riders with bows should be good.

Well I haven't played Wood Elves since the 6th ed Dark Elves book was released, but back in the day I usually went for four units of five in 1000pts, four units of ten and two of five in 2000pts. I liked archers a lot.

I was going to go with four of fifteen in 2k, depending on what they look like when the new book comes out. Maybe I'm overdoing it, but 60 shots per would be fun to roll either way.

...since the 7th ed Dark Elves book was released...
Where did you get this? Any chance to get any info on the content???

Therat: Well I was thinking about cutting down my usual number of archers for the new book, because from that picture of the Glade Guard on the rumours forum they'll be getting bows aswell. Maybe drop one unit of archers for a unit of them?

Er, woops. Meant to say 6th ed. Sorry for getting your hopes up, 7th ed is a loooong time away. I'll edit it now to avoid further confusion.
