Hey there. I've decided to, once again, create an army of the Sons of Grungni. This is my starting 1500 points list and would greatly appreciate some help as I've only just got the new army book.

Thane (65) (General)
Runic Great Weapon (Rune of Fury, Master rune of Kragg the Grim) (49)
Shield (2)
Total: 116

Thane (65)
BSB (25)
Master rune of Valaya (100)
Total: 190

Thane (65)
Great Weapon (4)
Crossbow (5)
Shield (2)
Rune of Brotherhood (20)
(94)

Core

24 Longbeards (264)
Shields (24)
Great weapons (48)
Command (25)
Rune of stoicism (25)
Total: 386

24 Warriors (192)
Shields (24)
Command (25)
Total: 241

16 Rangers (Quarrellers) (192)
Great weapons (32)
Musician (5)
Total: 229

Special

Bolt thrower (45)
Rune of Burning (5)
Total: 50

Bolt Thrower (45)
Total: 45

Cannon (90)
Rune of Burning (5)
Rune of Reloading (10)
Master Rune of defence (40)

Any comments are welcome, even if it's to say "start over" :D Cheers!

Heroes

Thane (65) (General)
Runic Great Weapon (Rune of Fury, Master rune of Kragg the Grim) (49)
Shield (2)
Total: 116

Thane (65) (General) Try this one.
Great Weapon (Mro Kragg the Grim, Ro Snorri) 49
(Mro Gromril) 25
Total: 139

IMO +1 to hit is more valued than an extra attack. Hitting on 2's, wounding on 2's against rank and file is great combat res. Mro Gromril gives him protection against most things as well. A little more costly, but if you drop 2 longbeards, you have the points for this.

Thane (65)
BSB (25)
Master rune of Valaya (100)
Total: 190

He needs some sort of protection, maybe Ro Guarding at least.

Thane (65)
Great Weapon (4)
Crossbow (5)
Shield (2)
Rune of Brotherhood (20)
(94)

Give him a handgun instead, it may not be as fluffy, but with bs4 and +1 to hit, he will make good use of it.

Core

24 Longbeards (264)
Shields (24)
Great weapons (48)
Command (25)
Rune of stoicism (25)
Total: 386

Drop them to 20 or less. This is a lot of points to drop on one unit. No need for the great weapons. I've found Hammerers with shields are a better choice and cheaper points wise compared to this same unit.

24 Warriors (192)
Shields (24)
Command (25)
Total: 241

Drop to 20.

16 Rangers (Quarrellers) (192)
Great weapons (32)
Musician (5)
Total: 229

Drop to 11, I'm sure you don't want to rank these so don't go too wide with them. This will save you points as well.

Special

Bolt thrower (45)
Rune of Burning (5)
Total: 50

Good choice if you fight Wood elves, maybe give it a Ro Penetrating as well to really wreck treemen, a Ro Penetrating will make it useful against just about any army as well. Give both the Bolt throwers engineers.

Bolt Thrower (45)
Total: 45

Cannon (90)
Rune of Burning (5)
Rune of Reloading (10)
Master Rune of defence (40)
Total: 145

Just go with Ro Forging.

Army total: 1496

Without changing TOO much, This is what I came up with.

Heroes

Thane (65) (General)
Great Weapon (Mro Kragg the Grim, Ro Snorri) 49
(Mro Gromril) 25
Total: 139

Thane (65)
BSB (25)
Master rune of Valaya, Ro Guarding (130)
Total: 220

Thane (65)
Great Weapon (4)
Handgun (10)
Shield (2)
Rune of Brotherhood (20)
(99)

Core

19 Longbeards (209) BSB goes here.
Shields (19)
Command (25)
Rune of stoicism (25)
Total: 278

19 Warriors (152) General goes here.
Shields (19)
Command (25)
Total: 196

11 Rangers (Quarrellers) (132)
Great weapons (22)
Shields (11)
Musician (5)
Total: 170

Special

Bolt thrower (45)
Rune of Burning, Ro Penetrating (30)
Engineer (15)
Total: 90

Bolt Thrower (45)
Engineer (15)
Total: 60

Cannon (90)
Rune of Forging (35)
Total: 125

Organ Gun (120) Snuck this little guy in for ya. Always a good choice, especially against skirmishers.
Total: 120

Total: 1497

Cheers for that! (and you're right about the handgun. I was going for fluff tbh but since I've seen my mate's new Wood Elf list... I need the S4 -2 save goodness. I HATE tree kin T_T) I never thought about the Organ gun. I was told they aren't really worth the rare choice they take up.

Firstly, can't have MRo Kragg on two items in the same army so drop one, you also need some protection for your thanes, they all have a 4+ save, which is poor , especially for Dwarfs. here's the list i've re-done.

Heroes

Thane (65) (General)
Runic Great Weapon (Rune of Fury, Master rune of Kragg the Grim) (49)
Shield (2)
Total: 116

change to:
thane (65)
shield, rune of stone (7)
hand weapon (rune of fury, rune of cleaving) (45)
total:117
(has a 2+ save and 4 strength 5 attacks) - MUCH more survivable with almost the same attacking power

Thane (65)
BSB (25)
Master rune of Valaya (100)
Total: 190

Thane (65)
BSB (25)
Master rune of Valaya (100)
Rune of Guarding (30)
Total: 220
(gives you a 5+ ward save, giving the guy a much needed defencive boost)

Thane (65)
Great Weapon (4)
Crossbow (5)
Shield (2)
Rune of Brotherhood (20)
(96)

Thane (65)
Great Weapon (4)
Crossbow (5)
Master Rune of Gromil (25)
Rune of Brotherhood (20)
(119)
(again gives you the much needed defncive Dwarvishness)

Core

24 Longbeards (264)
Shields (24)
Great weapons (48)
Command (25)
Rune of stoicism (25)
Total: 386

24 Warriors (192)
Shields (24)
Command (25)
Total: 241

16 Rangers (Quarrellers) (192)
Great weapons (32)
Musician (5)
Total: 229

12 Rangers (Quarrellers) (144)
Great weapons (24)
Shields (12)
Standard Bearer (10)
Total: 190
(to make up the points for what's spent above) - 12 Quarrellers is pleanty anyway, the shields and std give extra variety in combat and defence against return shots. the standard making you much more potent

Special

Bolt thrower (45)
Rune of Burning (5)
Total: 50

Bolt Thrower (45)
Total: 45

Cannon (90)
Rune of Burning (5)
Rune of Reloading (10)
Master Rune of defence (40)
Total: 145

Army total: 1496

Special

Bolt thrower (45)
Total: 45

Bolt Thrower (45)
Total: 45

Cannon (90)
Rune of Reloading (10)
Master Rune of Forging (35)
Total: 135
(runes of burning weren't really needed, the MRo Forging IMO is much more useful) though obviously this is my personal preferance

Army total: 1496

Heres the thing about Organ Guns and Flame Cannons, each one has a specific role.

I am always asked by new dwarf players in my local gaming club which one they should take two of and I always tell them that I personally take one of both because one will cover the weakness of the other.

Organ guns auto hit with random hits, 0 to 10 hits. The auto hits are the key to this weapon. It -will- chew up flyers, fast cav and small units. It won't make too big of an inpact on ranked up units though, as your generally only going to make 3-5 wounds a round. Of course taking two means you can double your damage but your spending 240 points to focus on one unit, but that might work for you too.
This weapon is key against armies that have lots of skirmish like Lizardmen and beastmen.

Flame Cannons on the other hand have a flame template and random range. WIth a flame template you can essentually hit multiple units which is key because each unit that takes a wound must make a panic test. However hits are not automatic and against skirmish units, flyers, fast calvary and anything without ranks your not going to be doing maximum damage cause you can only do a few partial hits. However in a ranked up unit your going to be melting down a lot of enemy with each potential shot. I once launched one into a unit of 40 empire spearmen (They had banner for +6 rank bonus) and dropped 18 of them in one shot.
This weapon is essential against ranked up units and espeacially large mass ranked up units like Orc and Goblins, Skaven and empire. Doubly so since they have low leadership.

The rare artillery do cost a lot but they also make thier points back so long as they dont misfire early on in the game. The question you have to answer is what kind of enemies will I be playing against? If you never know what opponent you will be facing then I typically take both and aim them at the targets they excell at.

@Endlessbug: That secong Kragg the grim was Kirth's re-write lol
@Deadmanwalking: Cheers for that, might take that flame cannon (I hate "All Tree" Wood elf players -_-)
