View Full Version : CC's TAU 'in Foudation Colours'

Right then,
here we are. This is my first log ever. I'm seriously expecting this to help me finishing my TAU army. Don't get me wrong here, I love painting TAU but unfortunately I get distracted very easily and I really can resist anything but temptation (ie my Deathkorps of Krieg, my Spartans for WarGods of Olympus, my FoW Paras, my WHFB Imperials, my Brits for Battlefield Evolution, and so on..)

My TAU have a history of being repainted. This is my third (3!) and final version of the classic GW TAU colour scheme. Thanks to the new Tausept Ochre paint the main bits like bodyarmour and vehicles are done in half the time now.
And time is the key problem I've got. Working as dental surgeon for the NHS and having three daughters is eating up most of my time. And there is still my wife (without doubt the best in the world:angel:)
In other words I am a weekend painter who has absolutely no time for gaming but who desperately wants to have a fully painted TAU hunter cadre of 2000 points.

Enough talk, some pics now of what I got as test minis for the new colour scheme:

CC, great looking Tau cadre. The scouts look amazing. If it wasn't for the pre-painted shot I would never have guessed that it was converted. IMO, the subtle ones are always the best.

Good luck reaching 2k and stay focused.

The foundation paints really look good on Tau! I like the human, the lenses on him are great. Could you tell us how you did them?

-The Laughing God-

A neutral shade of black.

Those plastic pathfinders are impressive. That's some conversion skill right there.

Foundation paints are looking good. I may have to get a few to finish my Tau...

@no-use4a-name

the subtle ones are always the best.

Exactly my point of view!!
I promise to try to keep focused this time:angel:

@The Laughing God
Just like I did all the lenses: Scab Red, Blood Red, Blazing Orange, and a little white spot in the opposite corner.

@A neutral shade of black.

That's some conversion skill right there.

If it wasn't simple I couln't have done it. I really try to keep things very simple and easy, so I can repeat it and have a forseeable result nonetheless.
Just a bit of cadboard and GS

Could you go into detail about how you exactly painted them?

Actually, that's quite simple as well. It is slowly becoming rather obvious that my ultimate goal is to achieve the best possible result with the least effort.
Or maybe I'm just extremely lazy:p

1 Black undercoat

2 Uniform
-Scorched Brown
-Terracotta
-Tanned Flesh

3 Armour
-Tausept Ochre (Foundation)
-'Blacklining' with a Vermin Brown wash

Probably an Auxiliary, I remember reading an article on the US GW site about Tau septs taking in the PDFs from human worlds they now held and training them with Tau equipment.

As far as the models go though, really good stuff there. As others have said the conversion job on the Pathfinders is great :D

These helmets on the metal minis were exactly the reason why I decided to do my own version of TAU pathfinders. :p
I've got about ten of them and the helmet got a slightly different length or shape on every single one.

It is slowly becoming rather obvious that my ultimate goal is to achieve the best possible result with the least effort.

This is also my guiding principle. I think your best possible result may be rather better than my best possible result though.

Your scratchbuilt markerlight is definitely better, and I may try a similar method. I will also steal a few of the poses for my fire warriors, if you don't mind :angel:

Your Gue'vesa is also great, but I won't steal it. Count yourself lucky.

Hi
Since I will soon have the opportunity to play on a desert/ Taros themed board more often I made the decision to style my cadre a bit more accordingly. The fatigues are now Foundation Colour as well (Calthan Brown) and the bases are meant to blend in with the board better..

The good news for me are that the change is a relatively easy to achieve, the bad new are that I got more minis than I thought- sigh.

I hope you'll still like them.

Cheers

Great army, makes me actually consider using that colour. But I feel like giving some negative critique. So here goes...

On the Crisis suits, more of a tip than critiscism, ever thought about using the 60 mm bases instead of the crappy 40 ones? Personally I think they deserve the more titanesque size. Looks a bit strange with the feet sticking out over the edge.

And the supreme commander, and this is because I hate the clear dildo sticking up his/hers bum, maybe use some piano wire, guitar string or whatnot so he/she doesn't look like some slaaneshi cultist.

And on the Gue'la... feth, who am I kidding I love those guys! Keep up the good work, 'cause that army rocks.
