Alright so as mentioned in the addicted to buying models thread they suggested making a thread for vows.

Well here it is!

The deal is, you have to many models unassembled/unpainted you post here with a pic of the stuff that needs to be finished. So take a pic of the box of defiler pieces, or the box of your ork shoota boys. Then you give us updates every 2 or 3 days. With pics of your progress!

Other people will keep incouraging you until you are done with that project!

So basically do this:

My name is (name here), I want to finish the project of (insert project here) within (time amout) and will not buy more models until this project is done.

Hopefully this will help those of us with that problem... like me... sorry if it sounds chilidish but what do you expect, we play little war games with plastic miniatures that consume some of our lives, and this was written by a 15 year old...

So here is mine:
My name is dustin, I want to finish the project of painting my space marine army of 1500 points within the next 3 weeks, and will not buy more models until this project is done.

So obviously my project not to hard when half of it is done, I just do not like painting but want it to get done but it wont with out a little help!
I am going to post pics in my next post!

So open up! Make the vow and get something done!

EDIT: wow just realised how gay the title sounds...

Hello, my name is Jay, and I'm an addict.

*waves*

I want to finish painting my Eshin warband and paint two troop choices and a HQ for my Eldar before buying any new models. I may be adding more to this list later, because, well... there's plenty to add.

*sits down at the table next to Dustin and begins painting*

Edit: cleansingfury, the title of this thread should be MPA: Miniature Purchasers Anonymous.

I have 1500 points of wood elves to paint, of which only 300 are built. For next week.
I have roughly 80-100 undercoated guardsmen, as well as 30 female storm troopers and a thunderbolt that are getting in the way of this.....

I will not spend money at forge world until I have got the wood elves done, which will mean the 40k will get done as light relief in between. If a 100 conscripts are light relief, then i'm an addict...

Ok so as promised here are the pictures of my 1500 point army.
It is obviously over half way finished being painted.

http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j67/froshmenarmy/spacemarines/fullarmy.jpg

My problem is that, you can see the bright orange on the shoulders of the guys with bolters comes that the orange takes 4 or 5 layers to be properly coated and streak free! This takes a good 20 minutes to put a single orange coat on 5 guys! They ones there are still not done!

My special weapons, which this army uses none of, have a red coat which is actually easier to put on, and my heavy weapons, which this army has loads of have blue shoulder pads to sort of make them less visible in the army.

Cause what is more threatening, a pair of dread naughts on your flank, or a load of bright blue colored assault marines? The assault marines are only base coated...

You can also note that my tank is not even base coated... The only finished tank I have is my whirlwind pictured there. It did not require much work so was done very quickly.

So post pics of your army here!

Also thank you philbrad for moving us to a better place!
Just for you I will make a familiar and paint it... if I ever stop being a loser and do something!

Ideally, you need to undercoat your models with black spray... That will help the paint stick better and wont take you 20 minutes to paint on the orange.

I apologise for hijacking the thread with my smuggery.

Ignore this guy, everyone. He's obviously an agent of Chaos, sent to distract us all from the One True Path with visions of the unattainable.

I will never be able to paint all of my models. If I am lucky I will sell some and reduce the pile. Nonetheless, I will watch this thread with interest.

My name is crofty. I want to finish the projects of: Dark Reaper squad (Exarch complete, 2 almost complete, 2 built), classic Harlequin squad (1 complete, Death Jester complete, Shadowseer almost complete, 4 more started but need details), Dire avengers (8 undercoated and given first coat of bleached bone, a few given first coat of blue), Guardians (1 complete, 15 undercoated, weapons platform+crew built), Warlocks (1 complete, 3 mostly complete) Farseers (both undercoated and given 2 coats of bone) Vyper (almost complete, needs details and front attaching), and Falcon(undercoated, hull needs attaching).
Knowing exactly what needs to be done is the first step towards getting it done, so I'm doing better than you guys already by listing everything.

Was there not a GW myth around somewhere that says if you finish painting all your models then its your time to die? :skull:

Wow crfoty, that is a massive pile of stuff to put in your way. Yes you are ahead of us by telling everything down to the details but it makes it sound so hard to do it! Now I almost want to stop painting and like I don't know... clean my room?

Just kidding.

But seriously that makes it sound like a mountain!
I did some work last night! Put on first layer of orange on the shoulder of the bolters, and put the blue on the shoulders of the missiles. Touched up my dread naughts and fixed a broken lascannon with GS.

So highly successful night! And as for that rumor, with my luck it will be true...

sorry if my pile of unfinished minis puts people off (I havent mentioned the chaos termies I never finished yet, but they arent part of the vow as I've left my chaos army for now, considering enough of it to enter a tourny are finished)

But seriously that makes it sound like a mountain!
now I'm tempted to use all the ones on basic round bases to build a house-of-cards-esque mountain of minis

Its not as much as it seems, I mentioned how many within units were actually finished (though that comes to 6).
Anyhoos, tommorrow, work does start. Hand me a paintbrush!

Righty, slight progress. made a start, gave all the avengers a coat of bone, and a few a coat of enchanted blue (for those confused, the idea is-bleached bone arms and legs, white helms, blue breastplates). started detail on two reapers, a warlock and a farseer. not much but its a start.

That sounds very nice crofty.
My progress in these past 2 days.
I painted all of the orange onto the shoulders of the bolter marines.
Took almost 2 coats each. I should have drybrushed it.
The blue is now on the shoulders of the missile launchers.
Touched up all of the red around the edges of the pads.
Decided I hate the way the oragne looks after 3 hours of painting.
Once I get 10 wins with this army I will probably change the color to a red glaze to make them look scarier.
Touched up the dreadnaughts and surfed warseer.

So overall my army is almost complete in the area of bolters and heavy weapons, now just got to paint a tank!

Hmmmm....4,500 points of Epic Orks, various Necromunda Gangs, rest of my Empire, 4,000(ish) points of Tau....

Sorry, but I can't join! I simply don't have the time.....

For your Tau just make a vow to paint a fire warrior a day or something!
Small things that will help you finish.

I can't. I work 5 days a week, and socialise the rest of the time! I only get games in on Thursday evenings at the moment, and I paint like buggery in what little time I do have!

I'm insane. I have the Blood Angels CHAPTER to paint. I give it my lifetime, and 40K models are off limits til then (unless they are worthy additions to the BA chapter).

Unfortuneately I have a new job starting in 4 weeks so not going to have much time... When I've sorted bits into companies I'll post pics...

I am quite short of money at the moment, so I am trying to reduce my pile of unpainted stuff.

Just finished my Centigors, so heres what I have.

Beasts:
20 Bestigors
4 Ungors
Shaman

Empire:
30 Free Company
20 Flagellants
Various Characters

Space Marines:
20 Veterans
7 Scouts
Predator

Dark Eldar:
11 Warriors
Talos
5 Warp Beasts

LatD:
7 Guardsmen
5 Plague Marines
7 Possessed

Blood Bowl:
Undead Team
Orc Team

Man O War: Empire Fleet.

Epic: Ork Army

Probably not as much as most of you, but I am desperate to get started properly on my Guard, but I want to try and finish some of my other armies as well. As far as my DE, Empire and MoW are concerned, I have all the models I need for the armies, they just need painting.

27-06-2007, 22:57
Asq_Dak that is bloody insane, sorry the poor pun.
But really wow. I want to see pictures of that.
All you have to do is base coat a model a day in that case or something.

it looks like a hell of a lot to me, the empire stuff alone is more than I've got to do. Cheers, you've given me new hope, seeing that my pile of painting is less than others (even when I include the unfinished beastman squad, terminators, DE raven, chaos knights, chaos champ and lost warwalker which arent in my vow, as my chaos and dark eldar are taking a back seat, and i cant find the warwalker).
good luck to you sir.

I have staring at me, 75 lovely converted Skeletons (based on the models in the army book) smashing their way out of their coffins, all with coffin lid shields. With other race champions all based and undercoated ready for what should be a really easy paint job and then covering them in lots of grass.
On top of that is another 60 zombies on infantry bases, again based and undercoated (1/2 of them) ready for again what should be an easy paint job. And then last but not least is my primed slave zombie giant 'Boris'giving me the evils, saying cum on yer human, finsh me off! I vow to have achieved this by mid July.

progress report-the 2 almost done dark reapers are done but for basing and varnishing, i've started details on a warlock, all the avengers have been given coats of bone and blue, and i've undercoated another reaper and the platform. Problem-I'm going away for the weekend, and where i'm going has an independant store that sometimes does stuff on the cheap. hopefully my willpower has improved.

progress report (sorry for the double post but if i edit the thread isnt bumped)
the 2 reapers are based and varnished, one of the three warlocks just needs varnishing, all the avengers have had coats of enchanted blue, just need to do helmets, details and bases. Vyper is closer to being finished, just need to paint the screens, the eyes (i'm having snake eyes and fangs painted on the front) and detail on the gunner (who needs to be fitted into the seat, so i'll have to cut him in half)before I can varnish and put the front on. given coats of bone to the platform and crewman, and started detail on the harlies.

Models that need painting and/or assembling:
Ork boyz (3 painted, around 6 assembled, parts for 16)
Dwarf BfSP contingent (all assembled, miners undercoated)
Ork Warboss (unable to assemble, lacking a pin vice)
? number of Dark Eldar (at least 1 undercoated and assembled)
Exorcist tank (unsure as to whether it will stay an Exorcist due to hideously bad casting of the organ and general pain in the ass assembly)
Approx 30-40 Sisters of Battle (basing, repaint and touching up of paint required)

Well i should really join this thread....and i will need a lot of encouragment.

By the end of the summer holiday (middle of august) i will have every Grey Knight model i own painted.
If that is succesful i will then endeavour to have my 1500pt Praetorian army finished by christmas.
After that i will have my 1500pt Mechanised Stormtrooper army finished by Easter (although i have some models i still need to buy for that)

Not much to do tbh. My lord is close to completion just a minor bit to do on the trophy belt and then I can ink him. The warriors are close behind him with only a few bits to finish of

Just a matter of sticking them together now. I do have a couple of Incubi coming soon so I want the lord and warriors out of the way in time for there arrival.

Dire avengers just need the white on their helmets and guns, eyes, shrine symbol transfers and basing. the weapons platform needs my craftworld symbol (a pair of crossed swords, one black and one white, using the Aliatoc sword transfers whithout the moon) and basing. All the guardians are now starrted, given them a coat of dheneb stone, a coat of bone, white on the guns (15 guardians, a pot of bleached bone and a standard brush started to put me off the hobby earlier. seriously, batch painting may be quicker than doing each model one by one, but it sure doesn't seem like it when there's 15 of them), they just need black on the helmets, eyes and bases. The other two reapers, the farseer, 2 warlocks and the harlequins just need detail and bases. the only problem-I cant find my tankbrush so I cant get the falcon done.

I've got around 15 more Night gobo's to paint up!

Then the whole of the Dwarf force that comes with the BfSP boxset!

My problem is that I am a painfully slow and detailed painter. My logic being that I paid so bloody much for these toy soldiers that I miswell give them the best paint job I can!

I have 1'000 points of fully painted Tau. Need to get 500 more and get that painted then I shall post piccies :D

Good thread!

Well, this project is going to be hard, as ive just got out all my Grey Knight stuff and have the following to paint;
11 Terminators
3 Justicars
12 Grey Knights in Power Armour
4 Incinerators
8 Psycannon
Land Raider Crusader (with forgeworld bits)

So, ive made a start on the crusader interior, but am awaiting a few parts from a friend before i can make more progress.
