View Full Version : rate my new inquisitor

Hey guys Im new around here and Ive recently gotten into Inquisitor, although the character Im using I made up a while ago.
I have some pretty big background on him, and I've recently had it reviewed/ripped apart, but I still would like some more opinions, as it still feels a bit clunky to me.

Insolitus
Ayrix Insolitus is a Lord Inquisitor of the Ordo Malleus in sub-sector Seperatatus and controls most of not all of the Inquisitorial troops in the sector from his space fortress Dooming Hammer. Insolitus was originally found on Krieg by Inquisitor Javier Horuthan at the end of the last virus bombing campaign of the century long bombardment. From his detailed account Insolitus reported he originated fro
**record expunged in M41 996 by Lord Ayrix**

Insolitus is a rarity of sorts, such being an Inquisitor raised from childhood by another inquisitor, in this case the infamous Inquisitor Horuthan, who according to all reports has disappeared.
While the details of what his apprenticeship was like are unknown, it is well documented that he gained his Inquisitor title after leading the 286th Cadian Deathdroppers to the Administratium Palace of known Xenos and Chaos affiliate ambassador Noddagaunt.

There, the first report of his female companion, who is reported to be Aerius Yomisian, alleged concubine of the ambassador, was filed. After the ambassador was executed by, now Inquisitor Insolitus, young Aerius wasn’t spotted until the boarding of the chaos grand cruiser Necromortis in the captured traitor shipyard of Hultition 4113, where a beta class psyker code named ‘Celestine’ was marked into the Apothecarium of the Blackship Hartinascus, marked with a plague dagger through the heart.

After this, no records have shown this ‘Celestine’ to still exist, though many astropaths have reported seeing a tall, Caucasian brown haired girl in a charcoal hooded cloak wearing an inquisitorial seal around her neck minutes before Insolitus announced his presence, and occasionally his fleets, presence in that particular system.

In the way he acts, Insolitus is one of the most pious of the Ordo Malleus, believing above all, the God Emperor of Mankind guides his actions, whatever happens is fated to be, thus the future isn’t to be feared. This belief has lead many to believe he is an Anomolian Beholder, although he has never overtly displayed his beliefs. The way he deals with non-chaos heretics is strangely humane for an Inquisitor, imprisoning them in a re-education facility or handing them over to the Adeptus Arbites with a slap on the wrist.

However, how he deals with Chaos is entirely different, and is more in line with his otherwise conservative views. If anyone (knowingly and willingly) has had any influence with a daemon or chaos, they are to be executed no questions asked. And Insolitus is the type to deal these executions himself with his mighty Daemonhammer, as is he with most of his workings; he prefers to do things himself, and not to rely on others. He does this to the point that Insolitus rarely goes into combat with anybody, and will never allow anyone to help him even if it means near suicidal events unfold.
This stubborn approach to hunting originally brought his loyalty into question, however with every heretic and daemon banished, he gained the respect of his peers, peaking when he banished the Keeper of Secrets Huralos in M41 612 on his own fortress, earning him his precious Daemonhammer.

Insolitus is an uncommon case in medicine, as he has had an extraordinary effect by juvination drugs resulting in him only being biologically 33, although psychologically he is much older. Insolitus is 6’4, has a red tinted brown head of hair, black eyes and a goatee of the bottom part of his chin. He wears synthskin under an ornamented chest piece, with a white sleeveless robe over that, and a tight, black cloak with gilded hood over that.

As of M41 987, Insolitus is currently on a penance pilgrimage to have his daemonhammer anointed by the Ecclesiarch himself, although he is rumored to be looking for the best types of apothecaries in the sector, although no one has dared to ask him why.

Daemonhammer (Legendary)
In combat against a daemonic character of any sort, the wielder gains an extra action per turn and +10 to his Weapon skill. If wielded by a character with strength less than 75, the damage is reduced to 3D10+2 and the parry penalty to -35%. The Daemonhammer is a power weapon. As with all hammers, the Daemonhammer counts double damage for knockback.

Reach Damage Parry Penalty
2 4D10+4 -- 25%

Warp Step – (Daemonology) difficulty: 10

Insolitus has used teleportation powers for centuries, and has mastered it to the point that he is able to step in and out of the warp at will, utterly confusing his opponents and making his moves very unpredictable.

This power is a persistent power, only has effect in close combat and lasts until close combat ends for any reason. Before and after an attack, Insolitus may choose to move to any point within 2 yards of his opponent, whom may take an initiative test at -35% to see if they can follow his movements. While the power is active, he also counts as having a displacer field of 60% that has a range of 4 yards, to represent him ducking into the warp to dodge an attack or bullet.

Unnatural hatred
Insolitus hates Chaos, and any of their associates, with such an unnatural hatred that even daemons themselves know his name. (Fearsome to daemons and chaos)
He does this to the point that he loses most rational thought, and will charge straight at any daemon that gets into his way (Furious assault VS daemons)
Pure of Mind
Insolitus has trained his mind incredibly deeply with his psychic powers, and knows beyond all doubt all parts of his mind. For him, his mind is at his will, and he can process information and study situations at prodigious speeds, to the point that he can control how he processes time, increasing his reaction time to the point that he can block fast projectiles with ease. (Deflect shot and high I)

Pure of Heart
Insolitus has proven himself, repeatedly, to be incredibly pious, and upholds the teachings of the Ecclesiarch to a vengefully high standard. As such, he preaches to his men and gives fair warnings of faith to his foes of what is going to happen to them. (Leader and Word of the Emperor)
No one shall stand in my way
Insolitus, while not crazed per se, he isn't fully empathic to rational hatred. In such, he totally disregards incoming fire and openly taunts daemons, and other monstrous beings, with puritanical prayers, and sometimes outright insults. (Nerves of Steel and Force of Will)

High Protectorate of the Argent Imperious
One of Insolitus’ more well known feats was the saving of the newly formed Argent Imperious space marine chapter from Excommunication. Originally, the Argent Imperious was a newly founded chapter, fresh from the bio vaults of Mars and ready to find themselves a homeworld. They did, and not 2 months later did the entire system get engulfed in a ferocious warpstorm, trapping the chapter for 800 years.
Upon the fateful day that the storm passed, they were immediately confronted with a large portion of Battlefleet Sepertatus, and with this, the word of taint was spread from the lowliest servant to the high admiral. With the longevity of the chapter at stake, Insolitus stepped in. he conducted a full review of the chapter, and he found slight mutations in the gene seed, enough to warrant full excommunication. He warned the chapter master of this, but agreed to keep the taint secret in return for a pledge of allegiance.

Later, he announced to the fleet that he found no mutation in the chapter, and that they are completely pure of Chaos. This started a relationship between the Chapter and Insolitus, one that has grown to an almost full alliance, with Insolitus being made honorary guard of the chapter master.
Because of his allegiance and loyalty with the Argent Imperious, he has been granted the minor concocktion used on potential recruits prior to getting their implants. (higher then normal physical stats), nothing of Space Marine proportions, but enough to help him in his never ending Hunt the Unholy.

now, he is undoubtedly powerful, however, he never goes on a mission with others and he is willing to take off the conspicuous (sp?) wargear of his and leave it on the ship if he needs to get into any shadowy places.

so, let me know what you think!

Deflect shot is a bit of a tricky one, he does have a 'power weapon' but a Hammer is hardly the most suitable weapon for such a role - and he does already have two force fields.

A lone character also suffers the problems of being potentially extremely easy to put down - all it takes is a lucky shot to the head and your character is out of it. Backup is generally always useful.

Edit: Nice backstory though, congrats!

heh, thanks :) I would imagine he, instead of going all jedi when he blocks around, he would play cricket/baseball with the shot :P

I cant really think of much I could do for the problems of lone characters, perhaps I could just have him play it safe around cover.
Although, in all of the playtests Ive had with him any shot that hit him would either be strong enough to set off his displacer field, or weak enough to be...not decapitating :P

Quick question: Does he have two displacer fields (one wargear, the other an effect of Warp Step), or does the one in his profile only happen when he uses that power?

It just takes a single point of damage going through to stun you. Then you have problems when people charge you in hand to hand. Displacer Fields don't help in H2H.

While I'm all for individualised weapons, does a Bolt Pistol really need to be made better? Dear lord, +15 accuracy is a little much. Just give it a Laser Scope or something to account for it's masterworked status. What's with the multiple range bands? Just pick one and stick with it.

The Hammer is way overpowered. I notice your Inquisitor has exactly the right amount of Strength to avoid the penalties of using it. Not that it matters because the penalties are hardly severe.

The stats and skills I will leave alone because he operates alone.

Interesting enough background though. Just a little worried by his tabletop presence....

heh, I might tune down the pistol, I made it using the custom ranged weapon thing I found on conclave, but yeah I may just stick a scope or something on it. And about the multiple range bands, apparently when there are multiple ones you can just pick whatever one fits the best for that shot, so I dunno. I might just stick it to J or something.

The hammers official :P, its from the Holy items list found herehttp://www.specialist-games.com/assets/FO31InqSwords.pdf
what you SHOULD be worried about is he's trying to get it anointed :P

though Im curious about one thing, what do you guys think about his psychic power I made for him? I dont think its too terribly overpowered, and it gives him adequate protection in H2H.

Actually, he technically has two displacer fields, but one only works at ranged, and one only works in H2H. I buffed up the H2H one because besides his 2 armor points, its his only protection.
