View Full Version : Another Slaanesh Sisters of battle commissioned army

Hi There folks!
It's been a long time since I last posted anything, mainly due to internet problems - I tried changing the operator and due to some stupidities in my country it lasted 4 months. Now I finally have access to internet, and God I'm happy with it!

Anyways, at the start of 2007 I was commissioned another Slaanesh SoB army. We tried to make it look different than the original one, but in the end the client liked this scheme most. This is what I did.

The army is not finished and will be updated with some Undivided squads soon, but these will be a totally different story.

The Mistress v2:
The client wanted her to hold a very OTT axe - just like the one I did for my Bloodthirster conversion. Plus she was to hold teh Icon - a skull used to summon Daemonettes.
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g219/Hortwerh/Slaanesh%20SoB/Mistress1.jpg

This version of the axe was obviously too small, so I changed it:

Then there were some pretty standard SoB squads carrying Sonic Blasters and Blastmasters, plus some more interesting models

Normal squads:
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g219/Hortwerh/Slaanesh%20SoB/Armyshot.jpg

There were 3 SoB squads and 1 Havoc squad, plus 3 Daemonettes squads in total.

Daemonettes had tattoos:

There was an Undivided bike squad:

Then came Obliterators:

Some objective markers:

And a Defiler with a magnetised base:

Well I think you already know that the models look stunning, so I don't know how else to compliment your work! The paint job on the defiler is especially jaw-dropping. I also really like the summoning skull.

Soo yeah,.... 10/10. You might also want to insure your hands.

Wow....
A concept a few people dislike, but I'm not one of them. This is AMAZING! Lovely paintjob, lovely conversions. I prefer the mistress with the smaller axe myself, but hey, it's the client that matters ;)

I'm not too sure about the defiler though, although it's a new and interesting way to implement the beastie. And, of course, another amazing paintjob :) NMM I see?

Awesome painting and conversions; simply brilliant :D
The only thing I can think to criticise is the oversized axe on the lord. But that's it.

Brilliant :D

27-06-2007, 12:51
Wow! The Mistress is definetly my favorite. Do you still have these minis or did you already send the beauties to your client? Cause I'd really like to see some close-ups of those SoB squads.

The paintjob is amazing all-around, especially on the defiler, but there are a few models/conversions i don't like. The obliterators and the bikes. Obliterators would look cool if they were normal flying or hovering daemonettes just controlling a bunch of hovering guns. I think the female heads don't fit that body.

Btw, I love you freehand-painting. Any hints on how to paint those spirals?

Btw, I love you freehand-painting. Any hints on how to paint those spirals?

Just paint a design you like with a medium tone with a large brush and then highlight it with fine brush and lighter colours. Try washing it with a few filters to make it blend more into the armour.

Havocs:
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g219/Hortwerh/Slaanesh%20SoB/havocs5.jpg

As for liking/not liking certain designs, it all depends on what the client is actually after. I'm here for him, after all.

Staggering. How much do you charge for an army like this, or can't you say? How about an approximate figure?

Hortwerth, did you perchance once have a brettonian green knight with a simliar green swirly paint job in a golden demon in a white dwarf?
i swear it was the same pattern.
excellent painting tho.

I have ALWAYS loved your defiler conversions. With the new chaos book coming out, I think that my Tsons are going to get a "Hortwerth" defiler!

Thank you for all the inspirational photos!

Hot damn those are some nice models!:D

The theme of the army as always is excellent and you've implemented it very well (I haven't seen your first one)

I'm just wondering how hard those sisters were to cut up (the ones on the bikes) cos I'm planning on doing some Sisters conversions in the future.

All in all excellent work.

Nick.

Love the paintjob, only thing I would point out that bothered me is the lack of any kind of mechanism for the cannon on the defiler and the identical poses of the girls with blastmasters (?) in the havoc squad. If the client likes them though . . .

Outstanding paintjob once again, you are amazing :)

I love how the blastmaster girls have microphones and are one handing those guns. Cheers on an excellent job.

I'm glad you like it, however the reason for this is very simple: the client bought the exact amount of miniatures I told hem I'd need and shipped them to me, but he bought the SoB in squad boxes instead of blisters, thus forcing me to find a way to use all the models I'd not normally use.

These held a grenade and bit the pin originally. As there was a triple of this very characteristic model I gave the client 2 options - either use one of them in each of the squads, or use them all in Havoc squad, making a choir of them.

Hortwerth, did you perchance once have a brettonian green knight with a simliar green swirly paint job in a golden demon in a white dwarf?
i swear it was the same pattern.
excellent painting tho.

Nope, I'd remember such a thing. I've never ever entered a GD yet. I take my inspiration from lots of sources though.

We agreed with the client that we don't need a mechanism to ruin the sleek shape of the tail. The reasoning is it fires warp energy bolts or something similarly esoteric. It's Chaos afterall, and Slaanesh in particular - elegance is everything!

Excellent! Been checking out your other stuff n CMON, very nice :) How do you do the NMM swords??
Cheers

M

1st I blend a few shades of grey, and then highlight and shade in specific places. Use colourpicking tool in graphic programme and see which colours are where.

It is definitely a beautiful army, i however prefer the first axe. But hey, the customer's always right..

Definitely. The price was somewhere in the region of $4k, can't tell the exact figure now.

Hey Hot,
Wow what a great army. Do you happen to have any greens? How about any more pictures of the slaanesh demons? Also by any chance do you have a list of colors that you use for the greys? I love the look of your silver NMM. When are you going to do some eldar work? Got any planned. Please keep it up because this army is great. How long did it take? Also one more question do you work with scibor?

Cheers,

Wow. You are really really talented.
The Mistress is beautiful, although the axe looks too damn big. Maybe even a little ridiculous. Plus, I'm not a big fan of that Slaanesh-pink connection, but all in all, I'd kill to have your skills. Really, I would. :P

Simply stunning - and im not even a fan of NMM!

One thing I cant help thinking of though is, due to that idiot Jervis, this beautiful army will be mostly illegal/useless come Septemeber and the new chaos codex:(

such a shame

but great work none the less

Simply staggering! A Slaaneshi SoB army done as they should be instead of all the "lolz gurls have teh boobzorz lolololol!" armies that get dragged up every now and then.

You wouldnt happen to be needing an apprentice? In the manner of The Emperor and Darth Vader? ;)

28-06-2007, 03:39
Absolutely amazing paint/conversion work there. If I had that much money laying around burning a hole in my pocket, I would love to get an army made for me by you, but then I don't think I would ever have that much money just sitting around.

the axe size is a bit much, but if thats what the client wants, thats what the client gets, and it is definitely beautiful.

Though the thought of SoB with Slaanesh is a little disturbing, well if you've seen 'hentai' (DON'T LOOK IT UP!)

LOL, you post at a geek forum and expect the people wouldn't know hentai? :D

Anyway, Hortwerth, the Defiler is great (along with everything else, of course). Consider some of the ideas nicked.

I am not sure about the whole background of SoB falling to chaos - because they really shouldn't...

That aside the army is visually stunning - and I am a great admirer of Hortwerth's work. He is consistently amazing and churns out beautiful armies at an eye-watering speed.

Very nice, It would be nice to see side by side with the khorne army featured in this months WD. Now all we need is a Nurgle and Tzeentch armies.

There are some nice ones out there if you look for them.

My missus also has some Nurgle stuff from the 40K doubes which she did to partner up with my daft Khorne army. She may get round to doing some more guys at some point in the future, depending what else she has on...

I should also point out that I am fairly sure Hortwerth has done a lovely Khorne army (I think I remember seeing it online somewhere) which I think is better than mine... curse him! ;)

The Obliterators' legs are not termies' ones, they were cut into pieces and the thigh resculpted on a wire frame.

I don't have many WIP pics on my computer, most of them are in the Studio.

Fantastic work, really stunning. The client definitely got their $$$ worth here, and I for one would love to have my own slaanesh sister army. Dig the bare breasts - here and on the other sisters - did you file down and GS the chest armor to achieve them? It's clearly not just paint ;)

The one thing I don't like is the HUGE axe, but like you said that's not your call there.

They're just uglier models for starters. At first I proposed to make feminine Terminators with some cool techno-daemonic weapons, but that would require me to sculpt whole models and the client just couldn't take the cost of sculpting. This is a compromise, and as such it'll always suck. Anyways, I like them more than stock obliterators anyway.

Touche... but still...

I did a hentai-inspired model for my friend's Slaanesh army a few years back. I'll try to take some pics of him this week as I got him for repairs. Basically he's called "Daemonic Neighbour".

TaoDeInsane
30-06-2007, 20:19
I'm going to admit this right now. Was going to do some Slaneesh when the new codex comes out. I'm just gonna be upfront, and say I'm gonna steal this whole conversion theme. It's just too damn sexy. Gives me a way to do Slaneesh without doing any nudity. (I've got no problem with it, but the moms of the kids at the FLGS might.... ;) )

By the way, I do love your style of NMM, the Khorne biker army you did a while ago, and this one here, is what pushes me to work on my NMM more and more.
