A simple question in theory. How many of them are there, what are they, and what do they do? Obviously I know broadly what they do and I am familiar with the big three - I just want to do something different with my next campaign and I think that having the PC's run more specialized bands would be fun. Thanks.

There are three Ordos Majoris, and an unknown number of Ordos Minoris. They all hunt down, destroy and examine threats to the Imperium of one type or another. Very few Ordos Minoris have been mentioned, and even fewer have been fleshed out.

It is perfectly possible to have an Inquisitor without an Ordo, although their resources will be limited.

I realize that the full number of minor Ordos is all but impossible to pin down but if you could tell me any that you know I would be grateful (the only one I know is responsible for investigating the zombie plague).

Can't be bothered to use a search engine?

Sepulturum, Sicarius, Illuminas, Obsuletus and Hydra are the named Ordos Minor.

Have I forgotten one, Charax?

Not unless it's so obscure even my knowledge doesn't contain it. The rumoured Astartes Ordo would also be an ordo minoris, but that wouldn't be one of the "named" ones, as it hasn't got a name.

I've wondered about the source of the Ordo Illuminas before now, and my efforts have come to nothing. :o I've only been able to find a mention in Andy Halls' Order/Ordo ruling on the conclave, and a brief reference to it on a French forum (Translation: "That of which one knows nothing but which sounds well, it is Ordo Illuminas (as what Illuminati would/could/should trot in the head with Gav since a good end of time)"). I assume Gav Thorpe mentioned it somewhere in passing a while back... Any help for a source, Charax or Precinct?

What is it with people called Mechanicus asking that question? (http://www.specialist-games.com/inquisitor/forum_b/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9699)

Made up by Andy Hall half in jest for the Ordo ruling. I don't recall it being mentioned anywhere else. Roll with it, make it whatever you like.

What is it with people called Mechanicus asking that question? :D Well, no one spoke up with anything about it there - but they did now! Thanks, Charax.

Thank you for replying. I couldn't turn up anything conclusive from the search engine.

Indeed, and what's all this with people like Xisor answering? Waitasecond! "No one spoke up"!?! Well, in all the years, never have I...<grumble mutter> :p

A name I recalled, but that I don't have sourced to hand, and it seems both of yourselves (Charax and PO) missed off the Ordo Minoris list was the following:

The Ordo Reductor.

I think it's in The Thirteenth Black Crusade, by Andy Hoare (IIRC). Indeed, I distinctly remember the phrase 'Ordo Reductor seige dreadnoughts'...

Of course, the question is still essentially answered.

Wasn't that a part of the Adeptus Mechanicus, though? I don't see the Ordos Minor of the Inquisition having their own seige engines...

Of course, the question is still essentially answered. Precinct is right - the Ordo Reductor is part of the Adeptus Mechanicus and contains all their siege engines. It was from before they made the ordos, and when 'Ordo' was just a cool word (Warhammer Siege, '88). :)

You mean I can't have an Ordo Sepulturum siege cannon, for all those zombie fortifications? :D

Well I wouldn't stand in your way, Charax, naturally. ;)

But for those less well-versed in matters Inquisitorial, I meant that the Ordos (and especially the Ordos Minor) tend to be made up of personnel, whilst hardware tends to be either borrowed or else be the private property of the personnel. Of course, if an Inquisitor felt it necessary to possess his own, personal seige engine then who am I to deny him?

Has anybody considered that the Ordo Illuminas (or whatever it is) could be doing work similar to what the Great Crusade in 30k was meant to accomplish?

I seem to remember, since it's been about 8 months since I read a Horus Heresy book (all the new ones, sitting on a shelf..:D) that they tended to "illuminate" unbelievers and non-imperial worlds they encountered..

Perhaps it could be used as an ordo that scouts to find unconverted human worlds, or maybe it comes in after a heretical clean-up and gets hard-line on anybody with its uber-puritanical views? Actually, the second point could be done by several Imperial groups..

Anyway, there's my two cents.;)
