Christmas 2011 I bought a skaven army boxed set, and I've bought enough other skaven stuff to make an army, and I still haven't painted it.

The one complete unit I have is this counts-as Warp Lightning Cannon, made from the spares after assembling a plague catapult.

Still to finish (or start)
Plague catapult
Doom Wheel
120 basic skaven
40 stormvermin
40 plague monks
Screaming Bell/Plague Furnace
Characters and whatnot from the starter box
Forge World Vermin Lord!

Here are some test figures. I'm not going to be able to spend much time on individual models, so I aim to use simple patterns and a John Blanche colour scheme (brown, red, orange, yellow, white, and lots of sepia) to produce a nicely coherent tabletop standard force.

The idea of the plague monks is to use dirty white robes (suggesting religious affiliation or medical experimentation) with red skaven runes daubed on them to evoke the idea of red X's used to mark plague houses etc (the monks would see this as a badge of pride).

Phase one is to finish some of the war machines, one starter set of skaven and 20 plague monks and storm vermin, so I have some of everything complete. That's 80+ figures to be going on with!

Well, for armies on parade I wanted to get more squig themed units for my army instead of painting a vast amount of stock squigs/goblins. Since it doesn't have to be a legal army or anything, I figure couple big units of squigs, few units of 20 gobbos, some fanatics, and the fun squiggy boss, hoppers, squig gobba, mangler squig, this guy, and maybe some count as trolls giant cave squig with troll herder? idk anyways, off topic already in first post..

Here's the arachnarok squig wip just first layer of putty and lips/eyebrows/eyes

I really like these guys here someone else sculpted somewhere along the line, and it was my inspiration:

I plan on doing a similar picket style fence, as I have my chariots and pump wagon made of those. I need to figure out how many crew members on arach so can toss them up there. figure magnetize one in middle to remove for shaman if put him on it. Shaman would have a wooden throne maybe? Going to add a mushroom "umbrella" bent over the throne?

Figure have a few mushrooms growing off this thing... give it tiny legs to go with the tiny tail to make it more comical? still need to cover teeth and inside of mouth with putty and sculpt on more.

this is just the 1st layer, with eyes lips and eyebrows added.. i should of put something in shot for scale... I think its about 6" in diameter?

So very brief history and build up, and then I'll get to the piccies which are, lets be honest, what everyone's here for.

My names Chris, I've been collecting for over 20 years and am just coming back to wargaming after a year and a bits hiatus. I was torn between Nurgle Warriors and Deamons, but figuring 9th Ed next year will bring in alliance rules similar to 40k, I went with the Deamons with a few to adding some warrior bits down the line.

Like this guy

Anyway, I've come back to after chatting with a friend, and we thought we'd do a bit of a slow burning tale of 2 gamers thing, now I'll admit I'm well behind, however as an admission I've never finished a WFB army in my twenty years of wargaming, 40k and Lotr I've done, but never WFB. This however, will be the one I do finish.

First up then, a unit of Plaguebearers, I finished building them this morning, got them undercoated in black and then did some cheat highlights with white spray at a 45 degree angle, and then started on the inny bits that are now hanging as outy bits.

So, here's a few pics to get the blog started, which I think about painting a bit more

Hi all,

So at the moment I'm currently painting a lot of historical miniatures. It's fun, however to keep my sanity I'm painting some of my back log of fantasy models to keep me going. So, to give me motivation to paint more and to improve my painting level, we have this plog. I've got a lot to paint. So anyway to start off, a blast from the past. After seeing Harry paint a selection of the original FA series model's I've brought myself a Dwarf Champion. So here we are, painted up in the colour scheme of my Dwarf army.

and from the rear.

I look forward to hearing your comments.

Hello fellow Warseers!
About four years ago I started a project log here on Warseer and it helped me paint a rather large Empire army along with a fair number of other miniatures.
Recently I have shifted more and more towards the beautiful sport, the game of kings: Blood Bowl.
I felt posting in my existing log, which isn't entitled Hochland - Gargobot's Imperial Log without reason, wasn't right anymore. At least not when I clearly know I won't return to painting Empire in the foreseeable future.
In fact I have already lined up quite a list of Blood Bowl related projects I want to complete. (Hah! I bet you thought I was gonna say tackle. ;))
Anyway the goal of this log, much like its WHFB predecessor, is to help me stay motivated and to improve on my painting skills. So please don't hold back with comments and criticism.

So enough talk, here are some pictures of the 11 Amazons I have already finished for my team. Tentatively named the Karra-Toca Knuckle-Dusters.
Blitzers:

Ive been looking to try out a few new things after having had a bit of a break for a few months and not being too inspired to collect a new army.

First thing is that I wanted to try painting using oil paints. Having had a look online it seems that the best place to start at least is with a larger scale model. I was going to go for something large scale online but on a trip into a shop to get some glue I saw a model that was pretty cheap:

http://www.modelzone.co.uk/miniart-1...or-figure.html

I was going to paint it as it is but wanted to change it up a bit before I began and it kind of spiralled a little bit from the weapon change I was originally going to go for.

In the end I wend for something not too chaotic; I dont believe that a marauder would have too many extensive gifts from the chaos gods and I also wanted to give off a bit of the sense that those that fall to chaos (at least initially) arent these dark twisted people. Some of the darker nature will hopefully be put in when I paint it (depending how the experiment with oil paints go).

Unfortunately the painting is going to have to wait for another time as I have spent my break converting this and getting going on an old nid project (this got me going on the sculpting bug).
You can take a look at that here:

Welcome to my warriors of chaos thread

I'm currently building up a slaanesh themed grand host using the tamurkhan rules from forge world.

The core of this army is my warriors of chaos army lead by Sigvald the magnificent.

as a centre piece I've decided upon an extravagant slaanesh Warshrine.

here's an early wip.

I have a VC plastic banshee to use as a daemonette shrine master.

the Warshrine incorporates a balewind vortex scenery piece.

the shrine will be pulled by a loan mutant with chains and suitable slaanesh fiend style stinger.

I will be adding dangling chains and banners underneath the platform.

I'm looking to build up rocks and a scorch path for the base representing the advance of that magical wirlwind.

all comments posative and negative (constructive) are welcome.

Yay, I've been struck by the "new army" bug once again, this time for Empire. This time, it was partly because of a bunch of Mantic Kickstarter stuff coming in the post later in the summer. I've drawn up some background and went out today to purchase some of the GW stuff I needed for the army, although they were out of Huntsmen so I have a box coming in the post for later. The parts I'm planning to use for Lady Ellenor are coming with the Mantic stuff and another Kickstarter so sadly I'm going to have to wait to convert her, but I'm going to get started on my first unit as soon as the Huntsmen show up. Here's a quick shot of the stuff I bought this morning (plus a box of old Bretts I'm going to pick bits from, and an old Zvezda Knight kit I picked up a while back for conversion parts):

Here's the background I wrote up for the Lady herself, Heinrich Greybeard (a wizard character), and the first unit I'm planning to convert.

Lady Ellenor "Ella" von Rutenheimer (Empire General/Lord)

Ellenor was the only child of the rich von Rutenheimers, a noble family of the Empire who lived on the outskirts of Altdorf. Her mother died in childbirth and her father paid a huge sum of gold to have Ellenor trained as a warrior and a leader to take over his estates in lieu of any male heirs. She practiced alongside boys and young men, training daily with sword, shield and lance, and studied the practices of generalship during the evenings. A few days before she was due to return to the family estate and recieve the family title, her father was found dead in their apple orchard. Before Ellenor could do anything about it, the greedy Baron Horace Tholmann, who had always lusted after the von Rutenheimer estate, seized her father's land and titles. She quickly packed up her belongings and rode for the estates on the finest horse held in the training ground's stables, whom she christened Silverwind. But when she arrived, it was too late. Large iron gates and brick walls surrounded what was rightfully hers, many guards kept watch, and her father's men turned a blind eye to her. Only her old storyteller, Heinrich Greybeard, had remained loyal to the von Rutenheimers; he had set up a small hut on the edge of the estates to await her return. After speaking with him and finally taking in the full story about what the greedy Baron had done, Ellenor and Heinrich pledged to raise an army to come back and reclaim her ancestral right using the gold Ellenor still had left from her tuition. Little did she know, there was more to Heinrich than she knew or her father had let on, and in the years to come she would find the full extent of his powers and history.

Heinrich Greybeard (Wizard, Lore of Beasts/Life)

In and around the Drakwald forest, many tales are told of an old, grey haired wanderer, said to be a spirit and protector of the forest or a dark shadow, a scion of death and pestilence. In truth, the subject of these stories is Heinrich Greybeard. An wizard of great magical ability, Heinrich was born in a village on the edge of the Drakwald many years ago. During his late teens, he set off on a journey through the forest to deliver a particularly good harvest to a far-off market where more gold could be had, and was never seen by his family again. He has never told anyone what happened during these years spent alone wandering the Drakwald, but one can guess that someone or something caused him to find his aptitude for nature magic. He is assumed to have been hired by Lord von Rutenheimer during one of his visits to Nuln, but no-one truely knew the real series of events other than von Rutenheimer himself. He is Lady Ellenor's most faithful follower, having known her since she was a young baby, and is willing to lend the greatest magic he can muster to her cause.

The Barony of Bruckenharr (Militia) and Sheriff Nikolaus Schumann (Empire Captain)

The first stop for Ellenor and Heinrich on their quest to reclaim the von Rutenheimer estates was the small barony of Bruckenharr. As one of the villages under the "protection" of Baron Tholmann, Ellenor hoped she could convince the locals to join her cause and bring justice to their scummy and greedy lord. Indeed, after visiting the village square and giving a very charismatic speech to the assembled populace, most of the small barony packed up their belongings and joined her quest for justice and vegeance (and her gold didn't hurt either). She also recruited the village sheriff, an overzealous man by the name of Nikolaus Schumann, who turned out to be a dab hand with a rapier and a brace of pistols. He was the perfect man to entrust the leadership of the rather restless barony to in the upcoming battles.

Some of the models I'm planning to convert for the Barony include a barkeep, the barkeep's wife, the barkeep's son with the inn's sign as a banner bearer (though I'll need a good inn name, maybe something like the Drunken Hippogryph?), Nikolaus Schumann and a captured prisoner, priest with a keg of Sigmar's Blood (holy wine) and his cup/bottle bearer, Boris the Kislevite and maybe his pet bear if I can dig out a suitable model. Other units and characters I've drawn up loose backgrounds for include a warrior priest who believes Ellenor is the subject of a prophecy of Sigmar and has a friendly rivalry with Heinrich Greybeard as Ellenor's two most trusted advisors, and his Sisterhood of Sigmar, poachers from Bruckenharr as a band of archers, and I'm throwing around ideas of doing Horace's disgraced son as another captain. Depending on when my Huntsmen kit shows up I should have the first models from the Barony up in a few days.

Hey there people!

I just recently started on a new army, a Scandinavian Treemoss/Troll themed Ogre Kingdoms army. I have been keeping a blog on several other forums for a few weeks now, but I didnt share it here yet...ah well... a first time for everything I guess... ;)

I am Dutch myself, but you can find me a lot in Skelleftea, in the Northern part of Sweden.

As many people do, I fell deeply in love with this country and it's nature and folklore. It didnt take long for me to find myself in and around the local wargaming store Legends where I met a guy, Anton, who had recently made a troll themed Orcs and Goblins army and is working on his Ogres too. He inspired me in a great way and allowed me to borrow his idea and add my own twists to it.

So, two days ago, I got back from Sweden and I kind of immediately started working on it.
It's all EXTREMELY wip, but the idea is that the army is going to be using traditional Ogre Kingdom models with heavy conversion work done, to get some sort of mix between the cute Swedish Trolls, John Bauer's trolls and Warhammer's trolls.

The Trollgres are going to get a nice and fuzzy furcoat on them (using staticgrass and such), with fuzzy traditional trolltails and the hair will be done with real authentic Swedish Treemoss (Treebeard) that I have been picking in the woods (and bloody snow...)

Beside that, they are going to get REAL barkskin armor and they will be using real Swedish twigs to stump their enemies into pulp.

Next to ogres there's will be small Trollblars, a Thundermoose (yes!) and a apricorn scrap launcher...

So, once again, before we start: A big cheer to the Nystrom family and to Anton who has been supporting me doing this project I am going nuts about!

Enough Rambling, on with the pics!
