It is past time that I started a log on this site. I've been working on my gaming figures for a long time, but have only recently started to work on terrain. Recently I have lost heart for painting armies, or really anything larger than ten figures. So, I've been channeling my energy towards making my battlefields more interesting and filled with different things to break up firing lines. As a plus a lot of what I have built and purchased can be used for RPGs as well so this is two birds with one stone. Anyway, here are a few pictures of what I have been working on.



I am really loving this Dwarven Forge stuff. Especially the Sci Fi sets. The large generator, the red and gold piece, is still a work in progress. I really like how it looks mixed in with everything else though. Now to finish it and then dirty it up. :)

As part of a wider D-day Campaign, I'm slowly making the terrain for the fields and hedges of Normandy. Yesterday we refought the beaches of Juno and Utah, I'll have pictures up of that as soon as possible. One of the principle features of the Normandy Countryside was the high hedgerows of the Bocage and I wanted to recreate them so they'd look good, but being the poor history degree student I am, I needed a budget - so I went for £20 to buy enough supplies to make sections of Bocage divided into 20 6" sections which would look good and be cheap and durable.
Here's a few of the reference images I used:





Okay, firstly, here are the materials I scavenged:

• PVA Glue
• Cocktail Sticks
• Clump Foliage (I had some left over)
• 5mm Foamboard
• Roof Cladding (The grey roll at the back)
• Knife, scissors, pencil

Okay so that's my supplies. If you go to Hobbycraft (in the UK) you can likely find huge sheets of foamboard for two or three pounds.
Now we're ready to start!
First things first: Cut the foamboard into a six inch by one inch section.



Once you've done that, score two lines 5mm from each edge - these will be beveled. Then you tear of the top layer of card from between the two sections - it should look like this:



Finally, grab your craft knife and cut at an angle from the foamboard down to the bottom layer of the crd, this will leave a 45 degree angle like this:




Next, we want to make a stone base for the bocage:



I cut this at half a tad wider than the base and then stuck it to the base, trimming the edges slightly.



And then, once that's fully dry, we begin to add the foliage, one layer at a time:



I did three layers, but you can do more or less than that; there was a lot of variation!

So, I picked up a copy of CorelDraw, the 2d design program and have been playing with it. Here's an early draft of a set of low walkways, ideal for your favourite skirmish game:



* resolution isn't the best, blew the image up a tad much.

I sent these off to be laser cut and received the product today:

So I normally post all of my modelling stuff in my All-in-wonder log thread but my new project is so big that I felt it deserved it's own.

For the last few weeks I have been constructing a modular sci-fi industrial gaming board and recording a timelapse video as I go. I have uploaded the video to youtube and you can see it here:



Make sure to watch it in 1080p fullscreen for the best effect and to see all of the steps and details. I plan to create three of these, one showing the basic construction of the table, one for the detailing and a final one for the painting. The videos may be some time apart as I don't get a lot of time to work on the board each week but they will come eventually!

Finally if you are interested in the steps I took so far and the materials I used I have a quick run down below:

1) Packed out the basic shape I wanted out of various junk I found around the house.
2) Cover said junk with expanding foam and spray with water (it helps the foam expand and set)
3) When dry cut the foam to the required shape
4) Cover areas you plan to be textured with sand with filler
5) When filler has dried sand it down
6) Glue bulkheads around the outside of the channel

I will update this thread as I finish more on the board even if I haven't yet finished enough for another video. If you have any questions or comments as always I would love to hear them!

Well, I think I've finally gone mad. As some few of you know, I write novels on the side. I'm currently working on editing Burning Iron, a sequel to my first fantasy novel (link in sig ;) ).

Anyway, a significant part of the storyline concerns a bloody siege of one of the strongest castles in the region, Eagle Castle. In order to make sure the action stayed consistent and the choreography of the siege was correct, I built myself a small model of the castle to use as a visual guide for myself.

Then I bought some Hirst molds and thought, "Hey, why not build this at 28mm scale?" The obvious reason why not is that this castle is HUGE. 9 towers, not counting the keep. Massive height. We're talking literally dozens, maybe hundreds, of castings.

But whatever. This is my hobby; this is what I do with my spare time! Enough blabbering. On to the initial pictures!

Me and a friend got back in to warhammer late last year originally the plan was for me to do chaos however I will be changing to Dark Eldar, Anyway I've started building a gaming board, we brought the imperial sector a few years ago and never got started with it really. So using that and some foam etc Ive come up with this

The original plan was to just have it with the silver foam thickness wise however I decided that a river that eventually ran under the rest of the board would be cool, So I used some thicker foam underneath and basicly raised it up.
