So I kinda winged the list together from what I've been playing. As I wanted to try to give the full experience to the couple, I had flying MCs, Cav, Archers, Chariots, infantry, and magic so the only element missing was artillery. We kinda jotted down lists for them to play real fast keeping in mind this was their first experience with it and wanted to make it fun. So he wanted some lee way on his rares and I wanted some lee way on points (mostly a champion for the PG and a threw a halbred on the noble).
Orc and Goblin Pregame Discussion
So my rares was off and the High Elves had a few extra points, I really just wanted to see 2 arachnaroks on the field again. Talk about some serious dust removal there. The last time I played with those models was I think two years ago. They made me so mad at a tournament where a treeman tied them up for three turns then killed one and over ran the other. 16 attacks for each 6 combats and not a single poison really irked me. I didn't want to over power the list so I avoided the 18 man troll horde and only brought 6. Gave me a lot of points so I put in a lot more MSU style stuff that I normally don't go for at all. Put in 5 forest riders, a couple of units of 5 man savage orcs with spears. It was very weird to me but I felt like I needed them to help keep his flyers under control. I couldn't bring myself to part with the savage orc big un's though. I just love them, clearly more then a horde of trolls. I pulled out my regular orcs and was gonna put them in... I swear, I have some great regular orc models... But the bad memories of them and all the good memories of savage orcs just swung me back to savage orcs. I felt the two lists were comparable though I was upset to discover that I didn't have my rock lobbas or spear chukkas (wtf, I have like 8 spear chukkas and 4 rock lobbas! Where did I put them! Grrr...).

Scenario
Battleline (Picked cause we didn't want to over do the rules)

Terrain (no mysterious terrain, just trying to keep it simple)

Upper left had a ordinary building, middle left held a forest, lower left had a chaos shrine, lower middle held a small hill, upper right had an ordinary building, middle right had a pair of gargoyle statues.

Deployment
High Elves won roll off (rolled a 6). (From left to right) the Frostheart deployed behind the Chaos Shrine, the Firespyre on the other side of the shrine, then a unit of silver helms, skycutter, Phoenix Guard, Sisters of Avelorn, silver helms, and then the last remaining skycutter. Alarielle went with the sisters and the BSB with the Phoenix Guard.

Orcs and Goblins (From left to right, HE perspective) Arachnarok behind building, Savage Orc Boar Boyz, Savage orc Big Un's, Night Goblins, Mangler Squigs, Forest Spider riders and Arachnarok (both behind building) and then finally a savage orc boar boyz unit. The orc shaman and BSB with the savage orcs, the N. Goblin sham with the goblins, Orc on boar with the trolls.

The Goblin Forest Spider Riders vanguard past the building.

The High Elves finished first and rolled another 6. (some one seemed to be having some serious beginner's luck)
High Elf Turn 1

Movement
Some minor movements, the flamespyre flew over to be a little forward and canter of the army (trying to get into position to potentially burn some gobos and pop and fanatics hiding in there if there are any. The Frostheart got on the other side of the Shrine.

Magic (Alarielle knew Earth Blood, Throne of Vines, Shield of Thorns and Dweller's Below)
5 and a 4

1st spell Throne of vines. 4 dice thrown. Successfully cast but not IF, O&G elects to dispel and rolls double 6s to dispel.

2nd spell Shield of thorns on the Silver helms. Successfully cast, not IF. Spell goes through.

Shooting
Far right skycutter hits the far right arachnarok and causes 2 wounds to it, the other skycutter shot the mangler squigs and took 2 wounds off it. Nothing was in range for the sisters.

Close Combat
None

Orc and Goblin Turn 1

Movement
All animosity tests past and stupidity test past.

Arachnarok heads into the forest, the savage orcs march forward 8, the boar boyz try to protect the rear area behind the savage orcs (from the flamespyre). The Night Goblins march 8, the mangler squigs bounce 13 forward, the trolls march 12, the arachnarok moves forward to hide behind some gargoyle statues, while the savage orc boar boyz moves forward and wheels for clear view of the silver helms.

Magic (Fists of Gork, Hand of Gork, 'Eadbutt, and Foot of Gork, and the goblin had Vindictive Glare)
1 and 3

1st spell Foot of Gork upgraded, 4 dice rolled not IF, Alarielle Dispels.

Shooting
None

Close Combat
None

Turn 2 High Elves

Charges

The far right skycutter into the 5 Savage Orc Boar Boyz. Stand and hold reaction, Skycutter auto makes charge.

Movement

Flamespyre flies over the Savage Orcs (only killing 3 out of 8 wounds) and the Frostheart flies just to the right of the Arachnarok (out of its LoS) The Phoenix Guard moves up just a little to keep the sisters out of danger.

Magic
6 and 1

1st Spell Throne of Vines, she rolls double 1s and breaks her concentration. O&G dispels Shield of Thorns.

Shooting
Bolt hits mangler squigs but fails to wound and the sisters kill it.

Close Combat
The impact hits kill 3 savage orc boar boyz, the crew killed another. The remaining orc and boar fail to wound. The Skycutter wins 5 -0 and orcs fail leadership. Overran off the board.

Orcs and Goblins Turn 2

No Charges. The Savage Orcs squabble!

Movement

The Arachnarok turns to face the frostheart, the Night goblins move forward 8, the boar boyz book it from the Flamespyre, the Forest Goblin Spider Riders and the Aracknarok sets up a big flank charge out of LoS on the silver helms.

Magic
6 and 2.

1st spell Vindictive Glare upgraded on a skycutter. 6 dice rolled and IF! Rolled 12 hits, wounded twice. 1 saved, 1 wound goes through.

We forgot to roll miscast

Shooting

Some pot shots from the arachnarok fails to wound the Frostheart.

Close Combat
None

The system is a bit complicated, but basically you need to earn each of the virtues by taking them, dealing with a tax, earning them, and then winning or keeping that character alive. The first one to get all the virtues wins.
Pre-game interviews

High Elves:

Well I talked to my friend (whom I'm playing against in this battle report) about the banner of the world dragon and we decided to have this battle so he can get experience playing against it as I am not the only High Elf player in our community. I told him that I can use as much experience playing these new models any way so I'm always happy to play.
So I chose to not change my list from the last battle report, as I wrote the list to be an all comers list. I don't know what he's bringing in terms of DoC, my experience with their new book is very limited, my friend said they got nerfed down a bit when the book came out and I hadn't played them since their book came out.
This game, I really don't know what to expect. Last edition he played nurgle (said he got fed up with dwarf gun lines so he wanted an army that would walk through it no problem so nurgle it was for him) then the edition changed and he went bloodletters and slaanesh. Now with the new book, who knows?

Daemons of Chaos

Well I haven't played this army since the book came out. Listening to the buzz about the banner is both exciting and frightening to face. Doing a no-holds barred match up is going to make things interesting.
So about my list creation and my decision making process. I was really looking forward to rocking a Blood Thirster for the first time in a while but after hearing about the banner I instantly knew that magic was the only way. Since I absolutely need certain spells to pull off a win here I chose the only logical option. Kairos Fateweaver. His spells will be Final Transmutation and dweller's below (no saves of any kind allowed and the potential to wipe out the banner unit with 1 spell is there), Pha's protection and flesh to stone for the first head. The last 2 spells are for when I have to CC (probably static combat res win). Its like fighting a horde of terminators in CC without rending or a power weapon near by but I know if I can make him roll enough dice he'll roll some 1s. But realistically this game is going to be won by dwellers or final transmutation. If I can get him down to just a few models with that banner I can pull it off.
The other head knows Savage beast of horros, the withering, wyssan's wildform and Pann's impenetrable pelt. I chose those spells mostly to keep kairos alive if I feel like he's in danger of being charged or if I need him to become a CC god and win me some combat.
Hero wise, epi may not be the right choice but since im rocking so much nurgle I felt like he had a place in the list and if I can get his count up that means tougher nugle daemons which is better for static combat res. I need a BSB for just in case I roll double 6s and the warbanner for just that bit more on static CC res. I just can't afford to have a unit pop on double 6s.
With the plaguebearers I'm hoping they will be able to withstand the high elves charge and allow me to flank charge in the following charge sub-phase. With both heralds giving them poison on 5s and 6s, they should be just a tad bit killier. The beasts of nurgle are fairly killy and at M6 pretty fast too. Another flank charger for me and 3x2 they can turn ranks. The screamers are to annoy and with D3 wounds special rule against larget targets I might even pull down one of those new phoenix or put the hurt on a dragon? It has potential and I'm going to try it out.
Finally the skull cannons, I need em to kill his MCs and being chariots as well makes them useful for some much needed CC res. Obviously not against bannered unit but should be highly effective against everything else.

Scenario: The Watch Tower

Terrain: Aside from the watch tower in the center of the table, we had an 18 inch long ghost fence set up diagonally facing the ghost tower in the upper left corner. Lower left corner was an L shaped ordinary building. Center top and top right both had Scree Slopes (clearly this watch tower is near a dwarf hold and we talked about making the watch tower a dwarf brewery but decided against it.) Lower center ended up having an idol of Gork and lower right had an acropolis of heroes.

Roll off for control of the tower sees the Hes roll a 6 to win it. Which gives the Daemons choice of deployment zones. The Daemons choose the side with the idol of gork.

High Elves don't place anything in the tower. The Sisters get behind the Ghost Fence, with both Skycutters to their left (inboard) with a 15 man Silver Helm team to their left. Then on the Scree slope is the 28 swordmasters with Alarielle and Sea Helm. The Flamespyre behind the hill. To the left of the sword masters (not on the hill) is 15 silver helms and behind the other scree hill is the frostheart.

Daemons place the 4 man unit of screamers behind the ordinary building, the 6 Beasts of nurgle to their right (in board), the 26 man plaguebearer squad with epi in next one over just in the 6 in radius of the Idol, then the skull cannon to the right of them, on the other side of the idol is the other cannon and the 29 man unit of plaguebearers (the bsb front left so epi unit is just in range of BSB) with Kairos taking cover behind the acropolis.

Daemons turn 1

Movement
the BSB block of plaguebearers does a snaking march move really to move around to be a charge block for Kairos and still give him LoS and range for his #6 spells against swordmasters. Both skull cannons move up, remaining in range of Idol of Gork, the 26 man block marches 8 inches, the 6 beasts of nurgle do a snaking march move to maintain a good counter charge position. The screamers move to the outer left of the ordinary building.

Magic Phase
1 and a 4

Storm of Fire! On epi's unit a small blast template direct hits 13 plaguebearers. Epi's look out sir roll failed fails to wound him though. 8 wounds, 2 5+ passed.

Well, do or die, all 5 into super dweller's (24in range which the swordmasters are about 22 inches away.) 19 is diced, +4 cast level, spell is cast on a 23 (Kairos also used his 1 re-roll a turn rule) not irresistable.

Luck is with the high elves, 4 dispel dice and double 6s dispels.

Shooting

The skullcannon places the dot 6 inches shy of the left most silver helms and rolls a 6, it then bounces 8 inches. 3 hits, 1 was a 1. 2 Silver helm die. The other one does the same against the other silver helm unit again it goes 6 inches and then bounces 10, killing 3 silver helms.

Close combat
None.

Turn 1 High Elves. Alarielle's spells are Drain magic, Soul Quench, Hand of Glory and Fiery Convocation.

No charges.

Movement
The swordmasters move 5 inches off the hill. The Flamespyre flys behind the watch tower (elf side), the SkyCutters move to the right of the sisters facing the screamers. The silver helms just did a bit of facing maneuvers and the Frostheart gets into a good flank charge position on the plague bearers and is just out of LoS to Kairos and plaguebearers.

Magic
6 and a 4

The Phoenix's ward saves are now 4+.

1st spell is hand of glory on the sisters. 2 dice thrown, 7 is rolled +5 (4 for level, 1 for casting a high magic spell) 12 is result. Daemons don't attempt dispel. BS increased by 3!

2nd spell is Fiery Convocation on Epi's unit. 6 dice it. Double 6s. 14 wounds into the squad! 3 saved, 11 plaguebearers burn. 8 is rolled on mishap, fails to wound and 4 power dice are lost, ending the magic phase.

Shooting.
The sisters need 2s to hit the screamers. 9 hit, 6 wounds. 4 saves, a screamer dies. Both chariots fire into the screamers, needing 6s to hit. All shots miss.

Close Combat
None.

Turn 2 Daemons.

Movement
Epi's unit fails music check. Clearly being on fire makes you suck at playing an instrument. Both skull cannons move to shoot at the frostheart. The BSB unit stay put. The screamers move up to just be 13 inches away from the sisters.

Magic
2 and a 5.

Eye of the storm, nothing happens.

1st spell 6 dice on Dweller's, 22 die rolled, 26 is result, not irresistable. High Elves through 5 dispel dice, fail to dispel. 15 swordmasters die, Alarielle and BSB both survive.

2nd spell Flesh to stone on Epi's unit, a 1 is rolled. Magic phase over.

3 Plaguebearers burn to ash.

Swordmaster's pass leadership.

Shooting

Skull cannon overshoots the Frostheart just barely. The other shot lands 2 inches in front of it and bounces 8 inches. Doesn't flub the to wound. Frostheart stops the ball with a 6 on it's ward save.

Close Combat
None.

Turn 2 High Elves

Both Skycutters into the Screamers, the 13 man Silver Helms into Epi's unit. Both Skycutters make the charge. The 13 Silver helms just barely make their charge.

Movement
The Flame Phoenix flies over a skull cannon and lands just behind the idol of gork and is positioned to either flank a skull cannon or rear charge the BSB plaguebearers. The Frostheart moves into position by the Acropolis of heroes. The Silver Helms that didnt charge move up about 4 ½ inches, the BSB plaguebearers team would need an amazing charge to get the silver helms in order to excape the death charge. The swordmasters barely pass music check and reform 5x3 and walk forward 5 inches.

The Flamespyre's fly over failed to wound.

Magic
6 and a 3.

Phoenix has 4+ invuln again.

Fiery Convocation ended.

1st spell hand of glory on the Silver Helms, 2 dice rolled. Double 1s! Magic phase over.

Shooting

10 sisters into Beasts of nurgle. 5 hit, 2 wounds. 1 saved.

Close Combat

The chariots inflict 8 hits, 5 wound. 1 saved and 2 screamers are trampled. Crewmen cause 1 wounds (not saved) the rocs and the screamer have the same initiative so the screamer hit 2 out of 3 times and cause 1 wounds (failed to save). The rocs swing 4 times and hit 4 times, then wound twice. The screamer pass both ward saves. 5 wounds to 1 + 1 charge. Screamers lose by 4, 5 is rolled. 2 more wounds kills the screamer. Both skycutters reform to face flank of Beasts of Nurgle.

The silver helms only inflict 3 wounds on epi's unit. 1 saved. 4 strike back, 3 6s! Then epi does 2 wounds (both armor saves failed) the wound from the palanquin is saved, the poison from the plaguebearers are passed. 2 wounds to 2 wounds, banner to banner, Silver helms have the charge and a rank bonus. So silver helms win by 2. A 4 is rolled, so Epi' unit stay to fight!

Daemons Turn 3

Beasts of Nurgle charge flank of silver helms.

Movement

The Skull Cannons move outside of the Flamespyre's charge arc, setting up the counter charges 1 can still fire on Flamespyre and the other can fire on the silver helms, Kairos flies over the Flamespyre and sets up counter charge as well.

Magic
6 and a 5

Daemonic Possesion! Alarielle passes Leadership.

Kairos does channel 1 successfully. 12 to 6!
1st spell is Pha's Protection on BSB plaguebearers. 2 diced, 4 is rolled, 8 is result. Allarielle dispels.

2nd spell is Flesh to stone on Plaguebearers, 4 dice thrown. 14 is die result, not irresistable. 18 total. Allarielle throws remaining dispel dice and dispels.

3rd spell is Final transmutation super version on the swordmasters. 17 is rolled, no irresistable. 21 is result, spell is cast. 5 swordmasters turn to gold! Alarielle and the BSB both survive.

Shooting

Skull cannon fires at the Flamespyre and it just barely overshoots. The other Skull Cannon fires at the silver helms but misfires (cant shoot).

Close Combat
The Silver helms inflict 5 wounds(!), the Plaguebearers save 3 so 2 more plaguebearers go down. The plaguebearers get 1 poison (saved) and the planquin causes a wound (saved), epi flubs. Beasts of nurgle put out 23 attacks, 5 poison auto wounds and 3 regular wounds. Only 2 of which are failed. 2 wounds to 2 wounds, standard to standard. Flank + charge + rank means nurgle wins by 3. Silverhelms with BSB just in range makes leadership (rolled a 4 on second roll) and sticks around.

Turn 3 High Elves

Both Chariots will charge the rear of the beasts of Nurgle. The 12 silver helms will charge the BSB plaguebearers as will both phoenixs. All charges are made.

Movement

Swordmasters garrison tower.

Magic
4 and a 1

Phoenixs have +1 attack.

Alarielle Channels successfully, 2 dice Hand of Glory on Silver Helms in close combat with BSB plaguebearers, rolled 6 +5, cast on 11. Daemons dont dispel.

2nd spell is Soul Quench 4 dice targetting Kairos. 18 is rolled. 23 is result. Kairos dispels with double 6s.

Shooting

Sisters shoot at a skull cannon. Hit 6 times and cause 3 wounds. 1 of which is saved.

Close Combat

7 impact hits, 4 wounds. 1 saved, a beast dies. The crew members swing, 2 hits, fail to wound. The silver helms swing, 7 into the plaguebearers and get 6 hits, 2 wounds (not saved) and epi's squad is dead. 2 silver helms swing into beasts of nurgle, both hit, fail to wound. 10 attacks, 5 hit, 5 wound! Chariots take 3 wounds. (Which puts them both at 2 wounds). 9 attacks into silver helms (!), 3 poison (2 saved) and 2 hits. Fail to wound. Epi flubs but his mount inflicts 3 wounds which kills another silver helm. Wounds are 5 for nurgle, 5 for high elves, charge to flank, standard to standard. Drawn combat.
Next combat, 12 silver helms charge in and 8 hit with their lances. 4 wounds (failed to save), the horses cause 2 more wounds (also not saved). Flamespyre kills 1 and the Frostheart kills 3. 4 attacks into the flamesprye, 2 poison (not saved). 3 attacks into the Frostheart, 1 wound (saved). 8 attacks into the silver helms, 1 are poison(saved) and 1 hit (fails to wound). BSB does kill a silver helm.
3 wounds to 10, but daemons have more ranks so are stubborn. Die roll is a 9, which sends a daemon home.

10 Black Knights
5 Hexwraiths

5 Blood Knights

Deployment & Vanguards

Pistoliers move up cautiously with the aim of either luring some of his cavalry or knights into a failed charge or to get into his backfield and harass stuff. Except for a magic missile they would be pretty safe there. He also moves up his vanguards.

https://imageshack.us/a/img4/8534/4l...deployment.jpg

Turn 1 (Empire)

Pistoliers move to engage the Wolves on my left. DGK move up behind to hopefully deal with the Blood Knights. The Halberdiers and Archers disentangle and Archers move up to run interference, especially against his breaker of Black Knights (I later found out they had a banner that lets them re-roll misses), BSB and General.

Magic starts with a dunce move (c)LSP: A magic missile at the Hexwraiths without checking whether I'm in range. Of course I'm not, so there. With the L4 out for now, nothing else happens.

Pistoliers kill 3/5 Wolves on the left, Archers kill 1 Wolf on the right, the cannon kills 2 Black Knights.

https://imageshack.us/a/img69/4081/4...urn1empire.jpg

Turn 1 (Vampires)

No charges. At this time, we figured his vanguarded units could not charge but in retrospect I have my doubts. We didn't look it up though and were both of the same opinion, so there was no debate here. Anyways, magic (he 3 Nehek's, a vortex, a solid magic missile and a RiP spell like that does increasing damage) restores all Black Knights and the one Wolf on the right. I let the RiP damage spell on the Greatswords through since they have MR 2, lose two models and that's it. No shooting.

https://imageshack.us/a/img826/5600/...n1vampires.jpg

Turn 2 (Empire)

Pistoliers move to the rear of the Blood Knights. DGK charge the left Wolves and the Greatswords charge the Bats. I'm not sure why he put them so far forward. Perhaps he intended to double charge with both units of knights. Halberds set up good charge and support positions for whatever might come.

Magic sees me get an IF Banishment through on the Hexwraiths that kills them all. Phew, that was important - only my Captain had a magic weapon and he was way too slow to ever catch them. Had they caught my Pistoliers or, worse, my DGK, that flank would have been so completely gone. The rest of my dice go to dispelling the hex on my GS at basic complexity. Shooting kills the obligatory two Black Knights.

In combat, I dispatch the two Wolves and the two Bats with no effort. One GS also dies.

https://imageshack.us/a/img5/4175/4l...urn2empire.jpg

Turn 2 (Vampires)

I was a bit worried that he would now couble-charge the Greatswords - Blood & Black Knights (both 14-15" away) and the Zombies (6"-8" or so) were all in range but luckily he held back. I do think this was a mistake, considering the considerable damage output of his knights but he didn't want to fail a charge. The Blood Knights instead charge the Swordsmen who hold. He cannot possibly kill all 15 in one round and I only need one to survive. For some reason or the other, 9 survive and hold. In his magic phase he had raised the Black Knights up again and killed Archers 1 with a magic missile. Not sure what his plan was at this point, especially with his Black Knights...but I'm not complaining, every turn they're out of combat is fine with me.

https://imageshack.us/a/img534/3767/...n2vampires.jpg

Turn 3 (Empire)

DGK charge the Blood Knights' flank. Greatswords go hell for leather and charge the Ghouls with his Necromancer, incidentally the target of my Witchhunters accusation. H 1 charge his Wolves. Waltar moves up, rest shuffles for better positions. I again divert his Knights but I'm running out of diverters. Magic sees me getting Harmonic Convergence on the GS and I think some buff on the DGK but I'm not entirely certain. Shooting...ah, shooting. Small digression: I've always had a love/hate relation with cannon, never killed a thing, and ended up so frustrated that for this season's league list I only took one out of tradition, peer pressure and sheer disbelief. In the first game, it died turn 1...you get the gist. Now his Black Knights are showing me the flank...and the cannon explodes.

Never mind! Here comes the melee. Blood Knights go first and kill all Swordsmen. Demis follow and kill all Blood Knights. Greatswords kill half the Ghouls and lose two of their number. The WH kills the champion. H 1 kill his Wolves and reform into a bus, ready to receive the Black Knights or flank them.

https://imageshack.us/a/img69/7177/4...urn3empire.jpg

Turn 3 Vampires

Black Knights charge Archers and turn around to the centre. Skellies move up in support. Spirit Host moves in front of Waltar. He gets Vanhels on the Skellies, so they're in my flank (H 2). In melee, my Greatswords kill the remaining Ghouls for two casualties and reform into a horde. The WH, incidentally, kills his prey - in close combat. Okay, it was just a Necromancer but it was satisfying nonetheless. :-D

https://imageshack.us/a/img254/7605/...n3vampires.jpg

Turn 4 (Empire)

Greatswords and DGK charge the Zombies (they had grown over time to 50 or so), that was an easy decision. What's much more difficult is the situation in the East. I can charge his Black Knights with 100 Halberdiers. Sounds good? At first glance, yes, but one contained my L4 (the L2 had left his unit before, not shown, played no part). The Waltar was within 18" but could not boost them. He could even have charged to the front as well...but if I did not wipe the unit out, Halberds 2 would find themselves with the Skellies in the flank. Would you have done that? I did not. I charged the Skellies and repositioned H 1. Shooting & Magic was uneventful except Convergence on the GS.

In combat, the combined might of 30 Greatswords, a Witchhunter and three Demigryphon Knights caused something like 25 wounds on the Zombies and not a single loss on my side. With flank, 3 ranks, standard & charge, the whole unit went POOOF. Everyone reformed towards the now pretty lonely Knights...Skellies and Halberds hit each other with 6:8 respectively.

https://imageshack.us/a/img854/5600/...urn4empire.jpg

Turn 4 (Vampires)

With the west gone, the Knights turned around again. Nehek raised all Skeletons back. Then he cast this vortex that does d6 S4 hits per rank and killed 11 Halberdiers. They still managed to win, killing 10 this time and losing 5 or so.

https://imageshack.us/a/img22/7665/4...n4vampires.jpg

Turn 5 (Empire)

My Demis, GS and Altar were all either too far away or too precious to charge the Black Knights. Halberds 1 were looking the wrong way, the quick reform had brought the Knights out of my charge arc. Clever. I do however charge the Pistoliers into the remaining Skellies' rear. I manage Convergence on the Halberdiers and I think a boosted Miasma on the Skellies. I lose just one or two Halberds and kill like 15, which with flanks and ranks is enough to sent them packing, despite their BSB and the fact that they had the Warbanner. H 2 reform for the inevitable last turn charge. My BSB leaves Halberds 1 to at least provide a re-roll.

https://imageshack.us/a/img194/6880/...urn5empire.jpg

Turn 5 (Vampires)

Finally the Black Knights charge in (they've been strutting to and fro for long enough). I'll make this short: They kill enough to leave me with just one rank while they have two, I only kill one, and the rest including the L4 is run down.

On my last turn, nothing really happens. I could not have charged the Knights with the other Halberdiers because - again not shown in the graphs - my BSB was in the way and the Demis and GS, respectively, were 20 and 17" away. It does look a lot closer in the pictures but we measured it twice.

End result. +650 points for Stirland! Pretty cool, if you ask me, especially after the beating I got from two Skaven in the league and the abysmal luck against Dwarves (GS + BSB vs Hammerers + Thane + BSB, all hammerers are dead, Thane + BSB on their last wound, I still have 20 guys but just lost by 1 or so - and fail two re-rollable Ld 9 HtL tests. BSB gone, GS gone, 600+ points for him).

Anyway, I think it was okay that he got the Halbs. I had to sacrifice something to get superiority elsewhere, and it were the Halberdiers who had to suffer. Also, it made him feel less bad. I'm happy that diverting worked as well as it did, and that I managed the matchups I wanted. Killing the Blood Knights was a bit lucky, otherwise the Demis would likely have fled, what with 9 dead Swordsmen.

HE player:

This is my first crack at an all comers list with the new High Elf book. I think Alarielle the radiant combo'd with the banner of the world dragon is sick. With those two together I think the unit is very defensively sound so I might as well as stick it in the unit that can dish out the most death which is what I think the swordmasters are good for. The silver helms as core is a gamble but I want to try them out. A 2+ armor save isnt something to sneeze at and 15 ASF reroll at S5 is farily devastating.

The Skycutters being a flying chariot is to good to pass up. If my opponent brings artillery, then im hopeful for taking them out in a turn 2 charge, not to mention with the bolt thrower on it, I hope to take some wounds off any monsterous creatures lurking on the field.

The flame pheonix I hope to use to quickly burn down any hordes of cheap troops, skaven and goblins are definitely what I have in mind for this guy to kill in droves. The frost pheonix I hope to use to get in a flank and help support any fight I need to win (-1 strength and ASL to the entire enemy unit is really going to help swing things into my favor).

The sisters I brought to help take away any regen saves for my eagle eye bolt throwers. They may not be worth their points but they're new and I should try them out and for a real opinion on them afterwards.

Overall I think it's a fairly competitive list.

O&G player:

I love the lucky shrunken head and horde of savage orcs combo. Tough to kill and swinging 50 attacks (hopefully) at S5 is killer. The Horde of trolls, once I tried it I never leave home with out it. Taking a bit of a risk this time, I usually put a orc on a boar to lead them but I wanted to try a suicide sham to try to overwhelm my opponent with magic in “that critical moment”.

55 n. Goblins will hopefully not flee being stubborn with the bsb reroll but I realize their leadership isn't all that great. Hopefully the fanatics do their jobs.

The Gobo wolf chariots I always try to bring because impact hits at str 5 goes before high elf ASF. They are great for putting the hurt on just about any footsloggers 3d6+3 str 5 impact hits is a good day for me. Very nasty and a steal for just 50 points each (sorry TK, maybe next book, eh?)

Obviously the rock lobbers are for anything big and scary and the doom driver is for cav killing and footslogger killing.

Overall I think its fairly good all comer's list.

Terrain
We divided the table into 6 2x2 foot squares (6x4 total), a woods was placed into each of the 2 left squares, a marsh in the middle top square and a arcane ruin in the middle bottom, a river and “farm house” in the upper right square and a marsh on bottom right. (we decided that the farm on the river was a cool idea but might give one deployment an unfair advantage over the other so we put an arcane ruin in the middle of the other deployment zone.)

Dawn Attack was rolled.

O&G win roll off and he chose the arcane ruins (mostly to deny the High Elves it, and what self respecting Orc wants a farm house on the river when he can have this funny whatnot!)

So most everything ended up in the center or right flank. The savage orcs with shaman being on the right of the ruins and the trolls being on the left of the ruins. Horde formation for both. A gobo wolf chariot team ended up being put behind the trolls and the other one went all the way to the right, on the far far right flank. The 55 man squad of N. gobos with bsb (made sure the bsb is within 12 of s.orc horde) was placed in right flank, 5 wide 11 deep. Practically right in front of the marsh (hopefully they can get through it so fanatics dont auto die), the suicide shaman went in with the N.gobo unit.

So the swordmasters with Alarielle and the sea helm bsb ended up in the right flank. The sister on the far right of the center flank opposite the trolls with a unit of silver helms next to them. Both cutters and the frost phoenix behind them. The marsh dominated the High Elf center and was avoided like the plague. The other silver helm unit ended up on the other side of the marsh opposite the Savage Orc Horde, with the flame phoenix behind the marsh. The farm and river left abandoned! So much for that idea (hey at least it looks cool, right?)

A 2 was rolled so first turn remains with the O&Gs.

The orc shaman got (2,3,4 and 6 spells in Da Big Waaagh) (suicide shaman got 2 on da little waaagh, not that it matters very much)
Turn 1 O&G
The goblins squabble! The Orcs move forward 8 inches and the trolls move up about 10 inches to be partial behind the forest there. The wolf chariots head off 9 inches to the O&G left flank (Goal, to smash into swordmasters!) The other chariot team moves forward 9 inches as well, towards the right off the farm house.

Magic Phase
1 and a 4.

To bad suicide gobo is squabbling... The O&G player could see both units of silver helms making their charges turn 1 and decided that would be a bad day. So Super Hand of Gork on the trolls! All in 5 dice! 17 was rolled (no double 6s) so 21 was total result. High elves get lucky and roll 18 plus 4 for lvl 4 wiz and successfully dispel.

Shooting phase
1 lobber targets the frost phoenix and scatters off and misses the sisters just barely. The other lobber targets the flame phoenix which scatters off the table. The doom drivers both fire at the Silver helms to the left of the marsh, both hit and killed 3 knights, 4 1s were rolled! Well at least some elves died...

No close combat.

Turn 1 High Elves. (High magic spells are 1, 2, 5 and 6)

The trolls are a menace and we need to burn them down with the archers and hopefully with fiery convocation. Hopefully 27 silver helms can make the charge and kill a ton of orcs or else this might turn ugly real fast. From experience though, those trolls are super anti cav and hopefully I can get the swordmaster's a really mean ward save before taking them on. So I declare the charge with both units of silver helms onto the savage orcs. Waaagh(!) is yelled in reply. Shockingly, 19 inch charges are made with both (6,4,1 both times!) which is way more then enough for both units to make the charge.

No other charges declared.

Swordmasters pass leadership and reform and move 5 inches, while the sisters move backwards 2 and a half inches. Frost phoenix back up to the table edge, obviously set up for a flank charge if needed. Both skycutters wiz behind the marsh primed to shoot their bolt throwers this phase and counter charge the next if need be. The flame phoenix flys to the building, using it to hide from the gobo chariots and to get into position to start nuking gobos.

Magic Phase
5 and a 4

1st spell, hand of glory on the girls. 2 dice thrown a 9 is result, 14 total. (wiz 4 +1 for blessing of isha). O&G decides to not dispel. The sister's BS is increased by 2.

2nd spell is Apothesis (really just to get the better ward and it'll make the swordmasters cause fear so no worries on the leadership check if in combat with the trolls.) The O&G player doesnt attempt dispel.

3rd spell is Fiery Convocation targetting the trolls! A 2, 3, 3, 4, and a 5. 17 +5, spell is cast at 22! O&G throws their 5 dispel dice rolling an 18 +4, just barely dispelling the spell!

Not a devastating magic phase but it did its job, the swordmasters have a 3+ ward save against mundane attacks and a 2+ ward save vs magical!

Shooting
The 10 sisters fire at the trolls. Currently BS 7, long range move and shoot and soft cover (from the woods) means 3s to hit! 7 hit, 3 wounds caused. It is flaming so 1 troll dead and their regen is negated for the rest of the shooting phase. Both chariots will fire their bolt throwers at the trolls. Move and fire is the only neg as the forest doesn't really obscure anything from the chariots PoV. So need 4s to hit. 1 hit, 1 miss. S5 need 3s to wound. Wounds, need 4s to wound and that fails. So 2 wounds dealt from the d3 wounds.

Close Combat
A little excitement and fear is in the air, this combat will probably decide the game! Its so early on too. So 27 silver helms made it in. ASF and the initiative is higher, so 3s to hit rerolling fails. 23 hits total, 16 wounds. 5+ ward thanks to lucky shrunken head. 4 out of 16 saved, High elves kill 12 savage orcs.

So 25 attacks into the 15 man silver helms. Need 4s to hit, 12 hit and 12 wounds. Failed 4 armor saves, so 4 elves dead there. 17 hits, 12 wounds. The savage orc shaman flubbed. 3 out of 12 armor saves failed. So 9 and 11 silver helms remain alive and 37 savage orcs stand against them. 7 silver helms are dead along with 12 savage orcs, no bsb any units involved. Savage orcs have 2 ranks more, silver helms get the +1 for the charges. So they win combat by 4, the orcs however have more ranks so are stubborn. 7 is rolled, they don't flee.

Turn 2 O&G

The trolls fail leadership and stumble forward and the goblins again animosity, though there is a chance they make the charge which they fail.

Movement.
The left Gobo wolf chariots gets around the forest and sets up a good counter charge position for the trolls. The other gobo wolf chariots plays hide and seek with the flame phoenix. Not a favorable game for them but not much else they can do really.

Magic
Winds of magic rolls a 4 and a 2, suicide gobo adds 3 and takes 3 wounds and dies.

9 power dice to 4 dispel.

1st spell attempt is hand of gork (not sure if caster can cast augements on a unit not his own while in CC, I didn't see anything saying he couldnt) Rolled a 9 +4, cast on a 13, which is dispelled.

2nd spell is fists of Gork. Threw 4 dice (trying to avoid the miscast as it can only really hurt the O&G player). The spell is cast, no irresistable. Cant dispel. Lore attribute means the shaman will swing with 4 attacks at str 7! POW!

Shooting phase

A stone thrower targetting the fire phoenix misfires and cant shoot. The other one shoots at it and scatters 4 inches off it.

A doom diver also misfires and cant shoot next turn. The other one scattered 2 inches but directed in and cause 2 wounds. The gobo wolf chariot near the swordmasters need 6s to hit with their short bows, none hit.

Close combat
18 out of 20 hit (huzzah ASF reroll), 3 out of 15 wounds though. 3 5+ invuln saves failed, so 3 savage orcs die. The shaman swings 4 attacks. 2 hit and 1 1. Needed 6s to save, failed. The 40ish attacks split evenly into the 2 units of silver helms sees another 10 silver helms killed, primarily from rolling a ton of 2s on their armor saves. (I believe we screwed up on their armor saves from last time as the High Elves should have needed 4s to save but we think we were rolling 3s to save, though we think the dice gods made it up to the O&G player). So 3 savage orcs died but a shocking 10 silver helms died in return and with the rank bonus added in the silver helms will need double 1s to stay. Which they both fail, the savage orcs catch 1 of the silver helms, the other fled off 11 inches, the orcs going 6.

Turn 2 for the high elves.
Wishing he had played smarter, the High Elf commander has some tough decisions to make. No charges declared.

The flame phoenix flies over the gobo wolf chariots (causing 2 wounds) and popping the fanatics. All 3 failing to make the 8 inches required to hit the phoenix. The 2 sky cutters fly behind the woods to set up counter charges to the gobo wolf chariots threatening the sisters back up another 2 and ½ inches.

Magic Phase.
4 and a 2.

1st spell Fiery Convocation, cast with irresistable force onto the trolls. 7 wounds from that spell, killing 3 trolls. Miscast is 8 which will take away the final power dice and is warded away.

Shooting Phase
8 sisters fire into the trolls, 2 hit and 1 wound. Fairly bad shooting girls! The skycutters will shoot at the gobo wolf chariots with both bolts hitting and wounding and both caused 3 wounds each! Killing 2 out of the 3 chariots! The 1 chariot passes it's leadership check.

No close combat.

This Battle Report Follows on from this one

Bate paced his dungeon, his teeth gritted. Jerem was standing well away from him, as he would occasionally draw his blade and slash randomly at the air, and he didn’t want to get in the path of that blade. He had the broken body of one of the Gnoblars gripped in his hand; they had thus far failed to cause any real damage, but they were making a lot of noise and were generally being a pain.

When Kirak arrived with Robert and Senal, two of the lower ranking Vampires in the castle, Bate hurled the Gnoblar corpse directly at Robert’s face, who knocked it out of midair easily. “That Ogre is outside the castle walls.”

Robert, who had been turned only recently, was more than used to Bate’s increased insanity. As such he merely blinked and said “Yes sir. They’re making quite a lot of noise.”

Bate whirled across the room and held his blade against Robert’s throat. Robert didn’t even flinch. “When the dawn comes, he will attack the castle. I can’t allow that. I’m sending you to attack his camp from the forest. I know Ogres, they’ll be in the middle of a victor feast, so they’ll be taken unawares. In the confusion, we’ll ride out and attack the camp from the front. Together we’ll destroy them.”

Robert glanced at Senal, both of them assuming that when they battled the Ogres, they would be on their own, but decided not to argue. Facing the huge horde of Ogres would be risking death, but if they contradicted Bate in his current state, he would kill them without a second thought. “Yes Lord Bate,” he said simply.

**************************************

Aravis leaned lightly on the tree she was perched in, staring at the secret entrance to the Vampire’s castle. She grinned savagely when she saw the troops beginning to march in perfect unison out of it but the grin faded when she saw that Bate von Carstein was not among them. She leapt from the tree and landed next to Lyanna, the Spellweaver who had led them here. “Bate isn’t leading them,” she hissed.

Lyanna smiled that knowing smile, the one that spoke of hidden knowledge and never failed to infuriate Aravis. “I doubted he would be the one to lead the flank attack. He’s mad, not stupid. But, if the flank attack hits the Ogres, their assault on the castle will fail. And we cannot allow that.” She turned to look at Aravis. “What’s the plan?”

Aravis, who had been acting as the Battle Standard Bearer thus far, was surprised to be consulted. “What? You’re the Vampire expert, you’re in charge.”

Lyanna’s smile didn’t fade. “Yes, but I’ve never had much of a tactical mind. I brought you along as my tactical advisor. So, advise me.”

Aravis thought for a moment, turning to watch the undead march out of their stronghold and toward the forest. “Redirect them. Turn their paths the way we want them and split them up to break their battle line. Then, when the sun is rising and they’re sufficiently disorganized, we strike.”

Lyanna nodded and closed her eyes, reaching out to the trees, bending them to her will.

So I had my first game of new HE yesterday. 2400 points vs Lizardmen.

List-

Prince - moon dragon, lion cloak, charmed shield, star lance, talisman preservation, halberd

Noble - griffon lance, dragon armour, lance, enchanted shield, griffon got both options (asf, devastating charge +1 attack)

Lvl 2 high Mage dispel scroll ring of khaine (took both sig's)

Core (left SH at home, would have taken instead of Seaguard)

16 archers musician

2 x 5 reaver knights

20 Seaguard standard musician shields

Special

24 WL fc banner of flame

16 SM FC

Lion chariot

Bolt thrower

LM player had

Slann lore of light. Becalming, extra dice, bsb, extra level

Lvl 1 skink priest

20 saurus hw shield x 3
20 temple guard
2 x 10 skinks
2x 5 chameleon skinks
Steg bow
Asteg blowpipes

Was an interesting game.

I spread deployed so denying scouts. I made two skink units panic from shooting+IF ring of khaine.

With very little in the way of powerful shooting my prince was fine. I advanced turn one, turn one he advanced, took 3 wounds of my griffon. Magic he got up bubble speed of light ( ready for my turn two charge).

Turn two I continued to circle round the left flank with dragon. Griffon charged and ran down some fleeing skinks. This panicked the chameleons behind (again) they ran off.

In the middle I had 10" charges for my chariot and WL on temple guard in centre. I failed both...I swung my one remaining unit of reavers in front of the now very close Temple Guard and advancing saurus blocks.

Magic I failed casting drain on temple guard.

Shooting I put 3 wounds with single bolt on younger steg.

LM turn 2. Temple guard and one unit combo on reavers. They hold. Thankfully he decides not to flank my white lions with a different Saurus block, meaning they were safe from an overrun from TG for another combat same turn.

Another saurus block box car charges SM...

Magic - - he fails bubble timewarp! Phase ends

Shooting, nothing

Combat. Reavers die. He declares overrun. TG into WL. Other Saurus block does to but hits lion chariot.

So onto SM, here was first test of no rerolls. Against a tough 4 unit.
9 saurus die, 4 sword masters die, I win by 1, he holds, we both reform 1 rank for attacks.

My turn 3...nearly there...

My dragon flys up behind TG for turn 4 charge. Griffon moves up behind wounded young steg.

Seaguard sit waiting an shooting young steg

Magic--nothing to note.

Shooting-- nothing to note

Combat...So WL now. No rerolls or character support.

20 attacks, 9 dead TG, I lose 4 WL ( he rolled poorly for combat all game). He sticks.

LM turn 3

Ancient steg finally reaches archers on charge. Young steg fails against sea guard. Last free saurus ( who didn't flank charge last time) now flank charge WL.

Magic --- I use scroll on a bubble timewarp that doesn't IF then dispel rest of phase with more dice.

Shooting - none

Combat -- SM kill 9 more saurus, lose 4 more, but break the unit, overrun to hit saurus in combat with chariot (it held last turn).
They fight again with chariot, killing 5, chariot 3 more. Win but saurus held.

WL- TG in front, 20 saurus in flank. WL kill 6 more TG, 3 more Saurus to side. I lose 9 WL but hold on stubborn.

I lose archers to ancient steg.

My turn 4-- game over.

At this point we both knew it was bad for him. Before charges he had 4 Saurus left against SM and chariot, the young steg had 2 wounds left and was far from combat, the ancient steg was out of position, he had 4 TG left, and 16 Saurus in the flank of WL.

My turn I charged my dragon into the flank of the saurus who had flanked the WL, I charged the young steg with my noble, and I hunted down the skink priest with my LSG and bolt thrower.

Magic, I fluffed soul quench hits on Skink priest.

Shooting - bolt thrower kills priest.

Combat -

Noble kills baby steg.

all TG dead, prince and dragon kill 12 saurus, I lose a couple of WL, he isn't steadfast so breaks with both slann and Saurus, I run them down.

Thoughts - it was a good match up for my list as he had no cannons and took light, so I was only worried about skinks.

He rolled average for magic casts most of game, but poorly for nearly all combats. I rolled well for my elites (although the no rerolls were noticeable).

I noticed the improvement for having fast cav core, I felt that it was a useful addition to the army rather than an obligatory choice.

Normally I would take 10 SH with FC. I think it would mean only the 16 archers , special infantry and bolt thrower as foot troops.

I really enjoyed the game, although it was clear that the guy I faced was not sure how to work his army. The stegs were split up. Ancient didn't do anything except kill 4 reavers and the archers.

With SM I think 16 was about the right number.

I also liked 24 WL as a number. It meant that I could take 6 deaths and still hit with 19 attacks.

I think the key for buffs/hexes will now be survivability for both units, as the rerolls being lost means you have less insurance.

I liked High magic, and as a level 2 I still had +3 to cast.

The noble on griffon seemed like a lot of fun. C.300 for him, can see people using him.

Overall a good dry run, looking forward to trying an arch mage list

[Pre battle story]
Asdeloth Urinthel was in his tent, staring atthe map. As if that was going to bring any good, or mend the mistakes of thepast. You fool!He shouted at himself in his mind. But it was to late and now it had to be cleaned up. He calmed down after he took a sipof wine.
Guard! - he shouted strongly - Have shades returned?
No, they haven't m'lord! But the army is ready to move. - replied young elf.

Upon seeing the young guard Asdeloth was onceagain taken by rage. He forgot that he was leading mostly inexperienced and young soldiers. For most of them, this will be their first battle. ”And formany, their last.” He thought. But what could he do? The Witchking demandedveteran troops for His campaign from all nobles of the realm. He would've sentthese youngsters if he could but, lord Kouran himself, along with his 1200Black Guard, came to inspect the troops and took Asdeloth's veterans and his 3oldest sons, leaving Asdeloth with his youngest son and a bunch of elven boyswho were still in training.
“Hrmph! Very well! Go and tell that sorcerouswhore that I wish to speak to her. And tell her to come here, we cannot counselin the woods! Also, invite my son Khainelos and all the captains.”
Yes sir! - replied the elf.

When the guard left the tent, Asdeloth poured morewine, and sat in his chair, again thinking how everything went downhill in his, seemingly perfect, scheme. A few months ago, he had struck a deal with a blackorc, chieftain of the Green Snow tribe, Grazog'gaz from nearby mountains. Andthe deal was simple enough, orcs come and decimate Asdeloth’s rival, lordTentho's forces maybe even destroy them, they loot a bit Thentho's lands andthen go back into the mountains with riches they plundered. After that Asdelothwould just seize control over Thentho's lands, kill him and his sons and sellhis daughters to other lords. But after annihilating Thentho’s army in thefield Grazog'gaz refused to withdraw, his waaagh grew too much after thatvictory and now they marched for Asdeloth’s lands in search of more villagesand towns to plunder!

And if that wasn't bad enough orcs, unknowingly, gave him another problem when they looted shrine of Khaine. It seems that, thatlittle ****** shrine had some scrolls that might have been written by the OldOnes themselves or so did the Convent think. The scrolls were in possession ofthe Witch Elves who guarded the shrine and never took the scrolls seriously, but Convent craved for them. And now the race was on between those two clans toget to the scrolls first. He couldn't care less about that, but the Conventsent her... And he hated her guts ever since she tried tosacrifice him as a child to the chaos gods. The Convent knew Myra was his oldersister, and still worse she was now a supreme sorceress. But she did offer hima good deal. He and his army help her get the scrolls, they turn down the WitchElves and she would use her magic if the battle comes and the Convent willsupport his claim against Thenthos. He was still thinking when his captainsentered led by his youngest son.

"You have called for us father? " asked Khainelos

"Indeed I have. We have a battle ahead! We must make the final preparations! And where is my sister?"

"We looked for her, but couldn't find her anywhere." Replied one of the guards.

"Well try harder! Khainelos, have the scouts returned?"

"They have. The news isn't good. 2 giants have joined the waaagh and there is too many of the damned orcs. Not to mention the goblins. We are probably outnumbered 20-1. It seems also they are preparing for siege, since they have several war machines. Their camp is at the edge of the Withering forest, near the valley of Snow Scorpids, just east from here" When Khainelos finished reporting, total silence fell on the tent.

"No mater. I have fought orcs from these mountains for most of my life and more importantly we have them right where we want them. Send all shades to attack them from behind. They are to lure the orcs away from the valley and into the forest. As many as they can. We can't fight all of them. The rest of our forces marches east. We will meet them head on. And we must hurry before they take the whole valley or get organized! Now go, all of you, except Khainelos!"
His captains left the tent in silence.
“What do you want father?” he asked.
“This is your first battle, isn’t it my son?”
“No, Nimreth took me once to hunt with him some escaped slaves.”
“Do you really think it is the same? Hunting slaves and facing an orc waaagh?”
“I…” Khainelo’s spoke silently, almost ashamed.
“I thought so… Well, today you ride into battle. I will take command of our infantry. You will lead our Knights.” Asdeloth could see that the boy was surprised. But it was time, he was of age and he needed an able bodied son in case his elder sons died in the Witchking’s campaign. A coward son would be worthless to him.
“And that is not all my son, you will carry our house standard, standard of all Urinthel. You know that we are among the few houses that trace their lineage back to ancient Nagarthye. We are descendants of true Ulthuan rulers and the first of the elves, do not disgrace us, do not leave our standard behind. I’d rather see you die than lose it.”
“I understand father.” Khainelos slowly picked up the banner of their house and left his father’s tent.

Asdeloth turned just in time to see a figure start growing from the shadows and eventually it formed into his sister.

Her thin lips formed a smile while she spoke: You called, baby brother? Missed me?

"Chaos devour you Myra. Where were you? I told you I wanted your opinion about the ensuing fight!"

"Oh, hush, hush now. I know what are we facing, and I have brought reinforcements." Her smile spread, from ear to ear." The beastmasters owe me a favor or two."

___________________________________________

"W'ere's da boss???" Rogta asked.

"He wen't to feed da wyvern. But that iz none of your businez!" Krog replied.

"So dat makes me boss, while boss iz away!"

"Not if I shoot you first!"

Rogta and Krog started circling each other while maintaining eye contact. Both were big, even for orc standards and they were about to clash with each other. Too long has Krog put up with that savage orc and now, finally, he was going to put an arrow through Rogta’s ugly face. Suddenly, from the other side of the camp came noise of fighting. Something was attacking them from the forest.

"I go and take some boyz with me! We will smash pointy ears in the woodz!" Rogta shouted, as he was already running towards the source of the fighting.

And sure enough he did and plenty of orcs followed him into the woods. Chasing an enemy they could not see.

Krog whimpered. He knew the boss wasn't going to be happy about it when he returned. But there were still enough boyz in the camp, and pointy ears were nowhere to be seen. For days the waaagh tried to provoke a reaction from them but to no avail. He turned just in time to see a huge wyvern aproach from the east. Some would say that landing was a bit rough but it was perfect by orc standards.

"POINTY EARS!" shouted Grazog'gaz while he dismounted his wyvern. "They are coming from 'ere!" he said pointing to the west, but soon his jolly face turned to stone.

"Where are my boyz Krog?!?! WHERE ARE DEY?!"

"Pointy ears attacked from there boss! Rogta took some boyz to hunt them."
“And we got a few! Boyz are still chasin’ them!” Rogta was puffing while walking to join the conversation.

"Ah, good! Ready the rest of the boyz! We march to smash some elves!"

10 Ironguts + FC
10 Ironguts + FC
10 Bulls + Ironfists
10 Bulls + Ironfists

Senario - Pitched battle

Pregame thoughts - Was a bit doubtful when I got a look at my opponants army. He told me he was trying something a bit different and I have to admit I was relived not to see a Slaughtermaster, a massive block of Ironguts, a block of Mornfang and a couple of Ironblasters. My main plan was to let him set up his units while doing the usual cheap drops (Archers and Eagles) then concentrate my more expencive units at one side of the field. I'd use these to beat up half of his army while the other half played with the Eagles. My list has been tweaked slightly since the last game and has gone back to pretty much how I originaly envisioned the army.

Setup - I won the roll and forced him to deploy first (he only had 5 drops so was always going to get the +1 to go first)

.................................................. .................................................. .......
......Bulls 1......Ironguts 1............Bulls 2...................Ironguts 2..................
.................................................. ......................................Hill........ ......
............Wood.................................. .....Wood.......................................
..Hill....Eagle..............Seaguard.....Eagle... .........Swordmasters................
...Eagle.........Archers...............Archers.... Chariot....................Dragon......
.................................................. .................................................. ......

I was really happy with the set up. Both the Tyrant and BSB went into Ironguts 1 meaning that Ironguts 2 was outside of the rerollable leadership 10 bubble so I put my strongest units on the right. The Mage joined the Seaguard and the BSB joined the Swordmasters as usual. To recap the plan. Eagles slow down Bulls 1 and Ironguts 1. Swordmasters and Dragon take on Ironguts 2. My shooting attempts to weaken Bulls 2to the point where I can get my Chariot into them with a reasonable chance of success. We rolled to see who got first turn. The Orge player went first and threw a six so he got the first turn without me even needing to throw.

My opponant didn't have any spellcasters so didn't need to roll for spells. I picked Wildform and Amber Spear for my Mage and took Earth Blood for my BSB
