Not only is it a good deal for getting into ECW wargaming but with a bit of 'counts as' (Firelocks = Huntsmen, about 20 Musket = Forlorn Hope = Archers and Officers = Captains) you get about 1500 pts of reasonably mixed 'Empire', which is not bad for 50 quid. Even better in a bit they're releasing Dragoons and I'm sure they can be convinced to swap out one of the boxes of Harqabusiers for them.

Hi all,

i had a nice Chat with Phil Kelly during GD Germany and asked him what is going to happen to the Master Necromancers which where dropped in the new Army Book of Vampire Counts. I told him that in my humble opinion it is a shame that Special Characters like Heinrich Kemmler which is a Special Char since first Edition were dropped out of the Army List. He agreed that many People in the Studio felt the same. I asked him if they would return with Tomb Kings which he denied. On my demand if we could expect a 3rd Undead Army he confirmed that it is a possiblity. This would have several Advantages for GW. Background Special Characters Magic Lore and a lot of the Army Sculpts are already developed. I know that it is a shot far into the Future bit i would like to hear your Opinion on this. :skull:

Hi lads… and ladys of course ;-)

I am not entirely new to this forum as I’f been a silent reader for month but now I got some interesting info from a guy working at GW headquarters so I created an account to tell you.

New Tomb Kings will be out in May 2010. So they will be the last armybook before 8th edition.

I will list up the information he gave me in the following, text in italic are my personal comments on it. Where I write nothing about a unit, it means that either the unit stays as it is or my source had no information about any changes. “Will stay the same” means that the rule or unit would stay unchanged.
Edit: My source didn't know anything about any new units but as he isn't a game designer himself that doesn't mean that there will be none. Personally I am quite shure that there will be at least new miniatures for the skeletons but that is just gessing, I have not heard anything about it.

Undead rule:
- Will stay the same in principle but you may take a stand&shoot reaction now.
That one was expected since the banshee may stand&shoot as well.

Magic:
- Will also stay the same with some minor changes:
-- Incantation of summoning reanimates D6 / 2D6 wounds
-- Tomb princes have 6” range like tomb kings
-- Tomb kings and princes have the option to generate dispel dice and energy dice (dispel spells in play only)
Pft... the adjustment in effectiveness of the incantations is ok, it should be level with the vampire one this way. Princes range is good. Dispell dice for Kings and Princes? Great, I only hope it won't be overpriced.

Undead construct rule:
- Will stay the same

“It came from below…” rule:
- Will stay the same

The curse:
- Will stay the same

Casket of souls
- Will have three different incantations to choose:
-- One incantation healing D3 wounds of all friendly units and characters on the field
-- One incantation similar to the current one
-- One incantation moving D3 units
- Will grant a ward save to it’s crew and attached priests
That sounds great!

Tomb prince:
- Magic changes, see above
- Strength 5
- If a tomb prince is the general you may take one unit of chariots as a core unit
- May be given the battle standard
Looking at the Scar Veteran S and T5 for heros was to be expected. Battle standard for the prince is great.

Battle standard bearer:
- New name (unknown to me)
- May be given the battle standard but may be used without as well
- May ride on a skeleton horse or in a chariot
- No magic
- Killing blow
- WS5, S4, T4, A3
A simple fighting hero without magic and an avarage profile. Ok, especially for friendly games with limited magic but I think the Prince will stay the better choice.

Skeleton warriors:
- Wear light armour without further costs
Decrease of one point would have been better but better than nothing.

Skeleton light horsemen:
- May be given light armour
- May be given Spears and Shields
That shoud give us some interesting taktical options.

Skeleton heavy horsemen:
- Are out!
I won't bemoan the loss of them.

Tomb Guard:
- 9(!) points/model
All right, Grave Guard cost 10 (?) points/model. And they have heavy armour and can make march movements... 9 points is ok I think.

Ushabti:
- 4+ armour save (including undead construct)
- 5+ ward save
- M6
- 55 points/model
That should make Ushabti usable. Not more but usable.

Carrions:
- S4
- Cheaper
Stronger and cheaper? Great!

Tomb scorpion:
- more expensive (about 100 points)
- 5 wounds (!)
Wow, the most extrem change I think. Scorpions with unit size 5 will be nasty!

Bone Giant:
- equipment options (similar to Warhammer chronicles)
The options have been a baublery in the past, they will stay a baublery in the future.

Screaming Skull Catapult:
- Every model touched is hit, not only on 4+.
The way it is in the Skaven book. Maybe a hint of what to come in the 8th edition rule book?

Greetings
Hennesy

Having seen concept sketches for the new Knights and Brians work on the new boars I am fairly excited about these.
EDIT Dosadi posts later in the thread to correct himself.
He mistakenly typed 2010 when he meant 2011 for the new O&G book.
Sounds a bit more like it. :D

A feral army of twisted monsters, the Beastmen have inhabitant the dark forests and wild places of the world since such places existed. To lead a Beastmen army is to field vast herds of braying, brutish beasts who worship Chaos in all its forms, and who fight to level the civilised world.

This will be the first time ever that the Beastmen have had their own, completely stand-alone, army list. The forthcoming Warhammer Armies: Beastmen is full of twisted monsters old and new, and an all-new lore of magic. It is not my intention to imply that only these rumours may be discussed, only that these are the ones I have determined to be strong enough to put in a summary (and have actually read).

People should feel free to post and discuss anything that they hear, regardless of the source, but the Summary will only ever include those rumours which I feel deserve to be here.

General info

Release is February 2010, after Tyranids, with advance orders starting January 4th. There will be a preview in WD362.

Was to be written by Andy Hoare, but he has since quit Games Workshop. Believed to have been finished by Jeremy Vetock.

The name of the book has changed from "Beasts of Chaos" to "Beastmen". The cover art is below.

Rules

Army-wide Special Rules, Magic Lores, and Magic Items

Ambush is supposedly staying much the same, though it has been suggested that it will no longer be dependant on the General. No news on Unruly.

An "all new magic lore" (singular) has been promised, believed to be an entirely new "Lore of the Dark Forest".

Alongside Magic Items, "Mutations" will be available in the same way as WoC Gifts or Vampire Powers, operating on the same budgetary lines. Bonuses, like Scaly Skin, extra Strength and Movement are expected, as well as more esoteric abilities like Breath Weapons. Multiples of the same Mutation are expected to be allowed.

The traditional marking system may have been scrapped, in keeping with the less obvious devotion to the Godly "cults" of Chaos.

*Note, army-list slots are representative only until more solid rumours appear*

Lords & Heroes

Beastlord/Wargor – Ld 9, T5, with appropriate price hikes. May take Chaos Armour. May be accompanied by a 'pet' Revered Beast Spawn.

Great Bray-Shaman/Bray-Shaman – Beast Spawn as above, access to new Lore. No other news.

Doombull– A metal box set release is confirmed; it is assumed that the Doombull will still allow Minotaurs as Core.

Centigor Hero - Aside from the Centigor Special Character, it has been rumoured that there will be a Centigor character available as a standard Hero choice.

Core

Beast Herds - Initially comprised entirely of Gors, with Ungors as optional additions (in a similar manner as Kroxigor in a Skink unit, though obviously with a different usage).
Ranking issues are fixed. Foe-Renders will no longer provide +1Ld.

Ungor Herd - A seperate Ungor unit, known to have short bows available to it.

Bestigor Herds – New Plastic Models (see below).

Warhounds - Varieties of Warhounds allowed through upgrades - Hunting, Guarding, etc.

Centigor Herd – Moved to Core. Fast Cavalry.

Special

Tuskgor Chariots – Believed to be a 2-4-1 choice.

Minotaurs – New plastic models. Access to Shields, Additional Handweapons, Great Weapons and a Musician. Still Core with Doombull. The only "Ogre-Sized" infantry in the list.

Razorgor - The previously mentioned "Gruulgor". A single metal model, similar in appearance to a warthog. Possibly a large Tuskgor.

Rare

Chaos Giant – As in WoC book.

Spawn – Assumed to be as in WoC book. Possibility of slight changes with regards to "Marks".

Gorgon – A new monster, based around the Catoblepas. Chariot-base, with Movement 8 and stats in the 5s, with Impact Hits and a Breathweapon. No model has been reported.

Special Characters

All the Special Characters from the last book will return in this one. New ones talked about include:
- A Centigor character by the name of Ghorros Warhoof, with special Drunken rules and a magical Great Weapon. As his name suggests, he has hooves rather than claws.
- A Bray-Shaman by the name of "Malagor the Dark Omen", with a feather-lined cloak.
- A Minotaur character dragging a Herdstone that allows him to cast spells. May be a Champion upgrade.
- A Daemon Prince. May have Bloodthirster-level stats. Possibly Nurgle/Slaanesh marked.
- A Foe-Render character with the +1Ld of the old book, among other things.
- The Thing From The Woods, a giant Warhound/Spawn from Mordheim.

Models and Army Book

No pics yet. Work by Aly Morrison and Mark Harrison. Releases rumoured are:
* New Beastlord and Bray-Shaman models.
* Special Characters Malagor and Ghorros have generic models at unknown prices.
* Metal Doombull Box, sculpted by Mark Harrison. One model, £25.
* Metal Razorgor Box. One new model, £15.
* Plastic Bestigor Box. Ten models, £25.
* Plastic Minotaur Box, sculpted by Mark Harrison. 3 models, with options for greatweapons, two handweapons, and shields. £27.
* Ungors and Gors are being resculpted and split up into seperate plastic boxes, at £15 for 10 models each.
* The Tuskgor Chariot is receiving a new product code as a metal box at £18. This doesn't mean it's receiving a new model.
* The same applies to Centigors, who are now a metal box at £35.
* The Battalion will consist of 20 Gor, 10 Ungor, and 10 Bestigor, and costs £55.

If you intend to start BoC, I'd advise you to do so before the release, as Gor and Ungor (their basic troops) are becoming 67% more expensive. Snap up those Beast Herds!

Apologies if this has been covered before; I didn't see mention of it in either the summer campaign or 8th edition threads, and a search didn't turn up anything.

I was looking for Black Library publications on Amazon as the BL site is in maintenance mode, and came across this:

Warhammer Mini-Book (Paperback)
Product details
Paperback: 128 pages
Publisher: Black Library (3 May 2010)
ISBN-10: 1844168522
ISBN-13: 978-1844168521
Product Dimensions: 17.1 x 10.6 x 0.6 cm
Amazon.co.uk Sales Rank: 1,132,919 in Books
URL:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Warhammer-Mi...023347&sr=1-13

It doesn't appear on the (albeit limited) Black Library upcoming releases page for May (or indeed any other month). http://www.blacklibrary.com/releases.php

The dimensions and page count put it in roughly the same format (but not exactly the same size) as the Infantrymans Primer and Munitorum Manual, although not hardback.

The price point seems strange, which resonated with me concerning the rumours of a new partial rules release for an upcoming summer campaign?
