Right, instead of posting my random stuff (that I do a lot) in my other threads, I decided to open one for those things...it will be mostly fantasy, with some occasional sci-fi/steampunk/40k/Inq28/anything else that I impulse-buy (I do that alot.....). Oh, and also, boardgames (Mansions of Madness, Myth when I finally get it in next January, etc).
What you can expect here in the future:
- ForgeWorld event only Warrior Priest
- D&D Collectors Series Illithid Raiding Party (oh, and the Drows too, when I buy them)
- Succubus and Bad Faerie from Freebooter
- Reapercon 2007 Sophie + some random Reaper stuff
- Gabrielle Lunardiente from Tale of War
- and who knows what else...

And just a quick teaser of what's coming in the near(ish) future...

The Illithid raiding party (with a bit of kitbash), and Ulfryk Lichbane, the Warrior Priest (with ALOT of kitbash) :) More shots comin' later...

That's it for now, see ya laters!

First, I don't think you should buy a Spikey Bitz mystery box; second, I like gambling. I have seen these come around before. The premise is you pay $200 USD for $300 retail of product. The kicker- some boxes have $400 worth of retail product. The product comes from Games Workshop, Forgeworld, Privateer Press, Infinity, etc etc etc.

So, I bought one. I chucked out $200 blind and I will show you what I get when it arrives!

The absolute minimum I will end up with is a lot more to complain about and some new miniatures to paint.

I am in the process of organizing and storing my collection of warhammer models (as well as a couple armies belonging to friends, some 15-20 armies in total) and decided to photograph the process for posterity. I figured I'd post some pics as I take them on this forum for redundancy, for perhaps inspiring others and for inflating my own ego. :D So I'll take pictures of each army as I organize them and post them here. Feel free to comment, question, admire or insult at your leisure.

Firstly, a few shots of my basement. The driving reason behind this mass-organization project is restoring this troll cave to a functional, furnished basement again.
1) The Army Cases 2) The extra foam and bitz storage. 3) Ye Olde Pile of Unfinished Projects (also a long forsaken treadmill)

One year ago today I set out to challenge myself to paint a miniature a day, for 31 days. It was a daunting task, and one I wasn't completely sure I could handle.

It was a success.

Many things have changed in the year since then. Most notably, my wife and I spawned two wonderful, screaming poop-factories.

Regardless of this major, life-changing/affirming event I'm going to try it again. The goal remains the same: 31 minis in 31 days. A few things will change from the previous year:
* I'm working without a safety net. Last year I had multiple backup minis prepared to paint in case my work day went too long, this year I don't.

* I won't be sticking as strictly to my weekly categories. There might be an imperial assassin, followed by a Farseer, followed by a samurai, who knows?

* I won't be working as much on individual, characterful, minis as much as working on units. Much of it Tau.

* The photos will be of a slightly lower quality since I don't have access to my work studio.

* Without access to my photo-editing software at work there won't be a Calendar like last year.
(EDIT: Turns out I can make it work!) Here you have it:

This year is also different because I'm not actually working at the newspaper right now. I've been on leave, taking care of the twins full time as their mother works, which leaves me only a few short hours every days for extracurriculars like showering, eating, or catching up on much needed rest. The wacky newspaper hours have been replaced by wacky tag-team infant hours.

This should be interesting.

Welcome to Muninn's May Mini Madness 2013: Nightmare Mode
I can't find all the sites tha helped me, but my main guide was from http://wardisciple.com/?p=215 so if he reads this, thans a lot. Well, onto mine.

I started with the basic prep-work you would expect, cutting off sprue, cleaning, scraping etc
(this image may be of a later stage, but shows the assemblage as the essential parts).

For the most part, you build 100% as described, right up to the weapon pods.
<img src="http://www.warseer.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=169736&d=1367159775&thumb=1" border="0" alt="Click image for larger version.

Using what I think are 2mm magnets, I first placed the mount for the Lascannon/Heavy Bolters onto the main weapon mounting. Using the hole in the upper section as a guide, I marked where I needed to drill, then removed the upper section and carefully drilled down into the plastic, being careful not to go all the way through. Once I had my indent made, I simply glued the magnets into the holes - easy enough.

For the Lascannon and Bolters, I did exactly the same. As carefully as you can, drill into the exact centre of the weapon 'pegs'.

Its worth test fitting them here, if only to let yourself know you've done it right, and please remember - keep the magnets facing the right way!! You don't want your Bolters being repelled by the magnets on the main weapon mount. It's worth maybe marking the polarity of the magnets in some way (paint, scratching it, marker pen etc)

Anyway, I got a privateer press archangel about a month ago, and I got my first airbrush a few days later. I've just <del>found</del> made some time to work with both of them, so I figured I'd post some WIP here.
The base is brown because I wanted to seal the foam for spraypainting. Then I added spackle paste to simulate water.

After airbrushing in several shades of grey.

I'm very pleased with how the cliff face came out.

And here's a random piece of foam terrain that has been waiting for paint for nearly two years. (I needed to use up my thinned out paint on something...)

Hello all!

Some of you may remember me from a year ago or so, haven't been active in quite a while. You know, getting to uni and drinking a bunch will do that to you. However, now that I've become more socially active outside of this box I've felt that something is missing. And that something is painting a bunch of stuff and showing it to you guys!

So I figured I'd close off my old dusty threads and start fresh with this one. And then I looked at my progress... ...not good. Well, took the pics anyway just for show, and then realised that there's no such thing as a memory card reader in this computer... Well *****. I'll work something out, don't freak out yet, give it a couple of days.

Meanwhile, I can tell you what will probably be in this thread. It'll be miniatures, yes. A bunch of random miniatures that I liked the look of and bought. And when I feel like "Hey, let's paint a... ...whatever this is", I'll do it! But, it'd be also nice to know what you like, and consequently, what I should paint! Give me a good reason and what in particular are you looking for in me painting that miniature, and I'll do it! Don't know if you'd like the look of a purple-cyan Ork? Well I'd want to know myself, and I'd be happy to help with a splash of paint :D But bear in mind that you need to sell the idea to me first ;)

Alright, enough ramble! I'll link you my photobucket so you can have an idea of what I was capable of a year ago: http://s585.photobucket.com/user/Goa...?sort=3&page=1

Anyway, thanks for reading, and any feedback is welcome as usual.

Hey everyone, thought I'd post some of the work I've done on my Zombicide miniatures.

Here's all the Zombies that come with the game, minus the Abomination, which is just primed at the moment.

And while these bases are too thick (3mm thick, 25mm round clear LITKO bases), eventually the goal is to have all of my Zombie models and Survivors based on clear bases. I decided to go for the 1.5mm thick LITKO bases instead. The zombie strippers are from Reaper.

And the survivors:

Nick (or not Bruce Willis)

Phil (or nor Rick Grimes)

Wanda

Josh

And a group shot:

HELL-O! and welcome to my painting and gaming project log. I'm going to be running this concurrently with my blog more or less and since I just posted my first post over there I might as well C&P it here cuz I'm lazy like that...sometimes.

My name is Kris (though I usually go by Ino on the various forums I belong to) and welcome to my Bloggity Blogger Blog. I had one of these things ages ago when the forums had(?) a bad name, the House was just a twinkly twinkle in Lauby and Dethtron's eyes, and I was 30 pounds lighter. So I'm older now, I've got a kid, and more time on my hands that I know what to do with. Ahhh being a student is fun! So enough about me, now on to the meat of this blog, and what it's going to be about.

Like I said I'm a student, and what I'm a student of is Computer Programming and Game Design. As such, I'm going to use this space to explore some of the Board Games that I'm designing and the prototypes that I'll be making to playtest those games.

First off is going to be a slow leak of my board game (working title) "Heroes United".

From reading other board games rules, the great articles by Mark Rosewater (Magic the Gathering Head Designer), RPGs, and even Miniature Wargames (ala 40k/WHFB, WarmaHordes, Infinity) having a mechanic that is both easy and memorable is important. The problem that I have with Games Workshop's for instance is the different type of dice rolls that are to be made in the course of a game. Knowing this I knew that I wanted my dice mechanic to be simple, efficient, memorable, but not too swingy. Here is the mechanic for "Heroes United" that I though of:

Rolling Off:

Pick 3 20 sided dice (d20) and roll. On a roll of a 1 you've failed at your task. On a roll of a 20 you've succeeded critically (If this is an opposed roll, only another Critical Hit can negate your roll)! If you happen to roll both a 1 and a 20, they cancel out and you take the value of the third dice.

If you roll neither a 1 or a 20: If 2 dice are valued between 2 and 10 take the LOWEST valued dice.

If you roll neither a 1 or a 20: If 2 dice are valued between 11 and 19 take the HIGHEST valued dice.Henceforth this outcome is known as a "Result".

Pretty much this negates the linear outcome of rolling 1 dice. Having a bell curve as many game designers have shown leads more towards "real life" averages. On top of this it allows me the design space to "fudge" outcomes to either the high or low side to signify a greater probability of success or failure.

Next on to what I call the S.U.P.E.R. stat card. This piece of beauty, if I do say so myself, is what shows the individual stats of the Heroes (and Villains) of our game.

Explaining the S.U.P.E.R. stat card:

S: Strength - How strong your Hero is at dealing damage with his fists, or melee weapons.

U: Unyielding - How tough your Hero is. This can be anything from innate physical toughness to precognition

P: Perception - How well your Hero observes his/her surroundings, along with how fast they can process this information

E: Endurance - How long your Hero can last in a fight. Some Heroes go for the knockout punch while others pace themselves for the long fight.

R: Range - How well your Hero can handle Ranged Combat. This is anything from shooting fireballs from their hands to the simple handling a gun.

***Any S.U.P.E.R. stat of 5 or greater allows the lowest dice to be re-rolled.

***Any S.U.P.E.R. stat of 1 must re-roll the highest dice.

ATT: Attack - 1 is a the standard attack. Anything over this is an Extra Dice is rolled is rolled for each point above 1.

ARM: Armor - 1 is the standard armor value. Anything over this is an Extra Dice is rolled for each point above 1.

A.P.: Action Points - Written in a X - Y notation. X = Movement A.P. and Y = General A.P. (One type of A.P. can not be used for the other)

Vitality: How many hit points it takes before your Hero is knocked unconscious and must return to base for healing/rest/contemplation...

Weak Strike: 2 - 10 : Dmg 10
Strong Strike: 11 - 19 : Dmg 15
Critical : 20 : Dmg 17

Each Hero has at least three moves that they can preform in combat. A Weak Strike, a Strong Strike and Critical Hit. Only natural rolls of a 20 can be used for "Critical Hits". If the total including modifiers is higher than 20, a Strong Strike will be used.
For instance Puck has:

Jab : 2 - 7: Dmg 11

1-2 Combo : 8 - 14 : Dmg 13

Uppercut : 15 - 19 : Dmg 16

Critical : 20 : Dmg 18

Having a total of 6 would strike the opponent with a "Jab" while having a total of 17 would strike the opponent with an "Uppercut".

In my altoholism (I have way more minis than I actually know what to do with) I have stumbled upon Malifaux. In other systems I can never finish anything so I thought a skirmish one would make it easier. And by now I have managed to complete a single crew with choices to spare. Huzzah!
