    News from german GD

    Hi folks,

the german GD is over and here are the news for the fantasy part of Warhammer (sorry, no pictures):

    - Lots of Wood Elves
    - The new warrior sprue for the dwarf army. It can be build as clan warriors with weapon and shield, with two-hand weapon and as Long Beards. Although I have to say that the last option does not convince me to take the plastics over the metal variants.
    - There will be a box for missle troops (both crossbow and thunderers)
    - There will be a box for warmaschines (canon and organ gun)
    - Gav confirmed that there will be a new dwarf army book. Nothing mayor changes (still runes, still the same slow troops), but there will be more specialized army lists (e.g. shooty, close combat, etc.). The Slayer list from Storm of Chaos will not be part of the book.
    - 7th edition Warhammer was not confirmed (outside the time frame) but it seemed obvious that this will be the case.
    - Next army book after dwarfs: no comment, but if I read correctly between the lines it will not be the greenskins. I put my money on Empire.
    - On the question on DoW: Some new thoughts how to handle them, but honestly nowhere on the actual schedule
    - On the question of Chaos Dwarves: After DoW.
    - There have been snap-together sprues on display. I have seen Skeletons, Chaos Warriors and Dwarves. They look not very posable, but will fit nicely into the current lines.

    Have fun,

    Rolf.

    Oooh, news, thanks!

However, I'm a bit miffed: Chaos Dwarfs after DoW, who are not even on the schedule?
    "Bruce... Don't be afraid."
"HE WILL BE. HE WILL BE." ERR. SORRY. PROBABLY NOT TO THE BEST TIME TO BE MISQUOTING STAR WARS.
"Mind the uniform, Cleric. I plan to be wearing it for a long time."
DON'T WORRY. HERE, CLOTHING IS IMMATERIAL. LITERALLY.

Hard to miss that hint, don't you say?

Not greenskins after Dwarves surprises me. Then I wonder, why would there be new Spider Riders, a unit not even covered by the present rules? Many questions, any answers?

Hmm, I am not sure. They had helmets, but otherwise... Hopefully Sylass can fill that blank spot, as he was far more interested in them. Sorry, I do not have an undead army.

Yes, it was the same for me. We did questioned Gav about that matter and he obviously did not answered directly, but for my understanding it looked like Empire first - which would of course did not devaluate the Spider Riders. Orcs & Goblins is a good seller army and the book old enough for an update. It may be direct after the Empire book.

It could also simply be an attempt to misleading us.

Aha! I had been worried when people had mentioned one-piece plastics, but these new snap-together plastics sound a lot more like the ones Tim Adcock mentioned to me many moons ago and about which I had subsequently seen nothing.

No comments? I would take that as meaning Fishmen!

Ah, sorry to disappoint you. Fishmen were mentioned, but unfortunately as they are a very politcal topic they are in the same category as DoW or CD. The next book is not fishy at all.

You talk about specialised army's, will there be any new units to go with them or additional upgrades?

Perhaps those three will end up getting combined into one army? Imagine the Warhammer Armies: Fish Dog Dwarves, introducing the mercenary fishmen with big hats!

Whats that? Fishmen are confirmed for the 7th edition boxed set due out in May of 2006? Awesome...

    Kidding of course.
I'm very surprised that the Orcs are not after Dwarves. Its the perfect time to re-do them in my opinion from a time and a fluff standpoint (I mean every new dwarf general needs a good Greenskin to fight!). Hmpf...shame.

So how does a "snap together" model work exactly? Are we talking Cracker Jack prize?

Probably more like the marines and 'nids from the Macragge box set.
    Thanks,

No, the DoW book is out side the six month window and cannot be commented on. Remember even if GW does not say it is the line up it means in is not up to bat in the next six months. Some thing to think about.

Not armoured at all as far as I could see. The sprue had 5 skeleton bodies (torso and legs as one piece again) with snap-on arms wielding spears, handweapons and/or shields, I believe.

The skeleton miniatures looked very much like the current ones if you ask me.

There were snap-together Orcs shown too btw, but no Goblins.

The new Dwarfs plastic box is very nice, but as Rolf said, the only difference between Clansmen and Longbeards seems to be that Longbeards get some "masks" glued on...

Thunderer/Crossbowmen box wasn't shown, but it should be visible on the UK GD in September.

There'll be no skirmishing Rangers or Slayers in the list. Ranger will work similar as Glade Guard -> Scouts, so they are an upgrade for Clansmen.

Slayers will get a few new miniatures. And you'll be able to rank them up this time. They seem to redesign some of the current Slayers to be able to rank up and add a few new miniatures.

We saw a few pictures of new Dwarf characters too. One character with an eyepatch, a huge, plaited beard and a pistol. A new engineer (being a worthwhile choice this time ) was shown as well. Wielding 2 pistols, one with 2 barrels. Characters looked *great* if you ask me.

Runesmiths and the Anvil are still available and they'll be be beefed up a bit to make them more useful.

Gav asked me if I'd put money on Greenskins being next after Dwarfs and as I said "yep, I would", he mentioned that I shouldn't place too much money on that bet...

...and he kept mentioning the Empire.

I have to disappoint you. Gav said the expected no comment because of the six month window more than once. Unfortunately he seamed very honest when he talked about the DoW, discussing the ideas he has and finally said that DoW is not on the schedule. He definitely did not say no comment this time. It was my impression that we will not see DoW anytime soon.

An interesting thought about DoW was, that the mercenary character may be increased. That means that the reliabilty of such troops will change and may get some extra rules. Sounded like a good idea and I am sure it will add to the fun of using DoW as mercenaries.

    Have fun,

    Rolf.

Quite unfortunate. The current line of skeletons are horribly out of proportions. Many of them have bigger skulls than other "living" models. Not to mention tiny pelvis, etc. Armored skeletons would have been sweet... oh well.. time to convert some more....

As far as i recall, the plastic spider riders are to be included in the new Warhammer Starter Box (a la Macragge) some people seem to be quoting either skaven or orcs versus Dwarfs. My contact at HQ told me some time ago that the starter set would be goblins versus dwarfs. If it is indeed orcs versus dwarfs in the starter box then maybe the goblin spider riders are part of the orc force.

Anyway it is my understanding that the plastic spider riders are designed fort he starter set, which should be out between new dwarf army book (xmas this year) and new 7th ed Warhammer (autumn/xmas 2006).

It seams that they first release the army book and then the starter set. They did so for 40K and they do so for LotR.
