Looks fantastic, will this or the dread be getting a lick of paint yet?
Looks fantastic, will this or the dread be getting a lick of paint yet?
No paint yet.Too much to finish building...
I like to approach it in bulk lots rather than piecmeal. I know the defiler is already painted and everything, however it was a bit of an inspirational model. I did that one completely for the modelling side of things, but the army is a combo modelling/gaming event.
Here's my current progress - the beginning of the troops. This mean ass dude is based on a standard marine which I had bits of lying around, so I took the liberty of convincing him to deny his loyalist creed. Took me a little while but he's mostly there. Tomorrow we should see the final scerics of his being devoured by chaos... muahahahahaha!
Anyways, onto pics:

I'm diggin' the old school Chaos missile launcher pack.

Great stuff mate - top modelling!
Amd thnx for the looksie at your top shelf, hadnt seen your Ork Mek before. Also really like the "converted" marine. I have plans to do a retro Chaos chapter at some stage largly based on standard marines without too much OTT so the last pic is great inspiration .......
cheers

Heres what I got done today, just a little coz I had to do other stuff as well, so I didn't get to finish everything I wanted to. Oh well.
Pics:
The dude with the old school techmarine backpack will count as a sergent/champ or whatever they are with a powerfist. I'm using some space wolf models and bits, and I think space wolves already look part chaos anyway so they're a good start here.![]()
Well I've made a bit of progress today. I only really completed the aspiring champ and then got bored with converting loyalist to rebels so I cleaned off the parts from all the sprues ready to start assembling the standard chaos marine bodies. Only for chaos space marines, no termies or other types. It turns out I'll have almost 40 marines in the end, which is pretty cool. I didn't expect to have that many in the end so I'm pretty happy.
Then after I finish all the termies I should end up with 9 in total.
SO! When I get to the end of the assembly I should have:
38 Marines, Champs and Lord
9 Terminators
3 Vindicators
3 Defilers
Maybe I'll do 3-4 Rhinos and if I go TOTALLY insane, I might go to a superheavy like a titan or something. Or if my bro goes and sees a baneblade it might be time for one of those...
Here's some pics of what I did today:
I really like how he turned out, it's better than I expected that's for sure! His kit out is power fist (represented by the servo arm) and combi melta. My idea for the army is incredibly shooty, everything taking heavy a$$ weapons and the like. It won't have a good deal of close combat, but the idea is that most things should be kept at arms length.
That's the plan, anyway. I expect things to go south though. They always do.![]()
Here's the latest pics, I've got all the heavy and special weapons done, with a couple of troops and the 3 aspiring champs with various kit out. I just have to finish basing the specials and heavies and that;s done, and then I'll go ahead and add some other finishing touches to each model once I've got the lot ready.
Here's the pis:
In the beginning there was plastic:

Ok, I've got an update for yer entertainment. I've base-ically been working on the bases. Got them mostly done today, now all I need to do is finish off the job by completing the loyalist conversions - 5 to go. Then I have 6 loyalist termies to have a go at...
And then onto some defiler action!
That which is done:
That which is yet to do:

Damn, you convert fast. Great details such as the backpacks. Is there a plan for the HQ yet?
I'm still working on the HQ thoughts. ATM as far as the new codex goes, I'm considering having him equipped with 2 Lightning claws, a plasma pistol, a combi melta, a mark of Khorne and a Juggernaught. That's rules wise - and then convert the model so that those are represented differently. Very mechanical and shooty and nasty. I'm still thinking it through, but my concept is something like a gun toting dock loader...(Aliens)
I've finally finished the base troops for the army. All based and ready for undercoat. Next in the list is to make up the terminators. I have 6 on sprue and 4 old school ones to convert to more current style models. If they don't turn out I'll just convert the old school termies to something else, maybe obliterators instead...
In the end, I should have 3 Defilers, 3 Vindicators, 1 Dread, 10 termies, 36 Troops and a juiced Lord. Maybe I will add 3 rhinos and 1 razorback to that mix.
Here's some pics:
The pile of bits:
And the army at present:

Instead of an update today, since I'm waiting for stuff to soak in acetone/simple green for stripping, I thought I would post some pics/brag about what my bro turned up with the other day.
I get home after a hard days modelling, and what is there sitting beside my computer??
Nothing says love like Apocalypse - I love my brother.![]()
Now to decide what army to put it in!!!!
Just went through this entire thread; You sir are my favourite modeler around; everything you put together is pure win. Im glad you decided to build an army after your defiler. That chicken walker and that dreadnaught are incredible, and your troops are proof you can take your skills to a micro level.
My only concern is that you will try to build that baneblade as per Imperial instructions...
Only the insane have strength enough to prosper. Only those who prosper may truly judge what is sane
Warp Kings Chaos Marines
I'm actually seriously considering another scratchbuild along the lines of the vindicator but standing in as a baneblade and obviously being a bit larger...
As to the imperial instructions, just so it still looks like a tank is the extent if i intend to put the blade into the chaos army. Haven't decided yet - I still have 10 termies, 2 defilers and 2 scratchbuilt vindies to worry about yet...MEQ
