    Oh my!

If the rest of this army is anywhere near the standard of your defiler, this will be an awesome army. Subscribed!

Ok I've been playing around with the legs today and this is where I got. They're almost done, I just need to add some chaos glyphs and stuff to bring it into line with the iconography once I've done the rest of the building. Trouble I'm having is with building the upper section, I built a big part somewhat the same as the pic but I don't like how it's turning out.

I then played around with adding the oversized turret I built previously and, to tell the truth, I kinda like it. I just need to rebuild the feet again and make them large to improve the proportions. Anyways, let me know what you reckon, I'm a bit stuck.....

    Legs assembled:

    Added uber turret:

    And spaced:

Oh man, this is bloody awesome. I sir do subject thee to the trials of the league of extraordinary modellers....No really you should join, talk to sir scrubout. That defiler is amazing, and the calibre of the scratch build on that new defiler is insane. Can't wait to see what happens with the rest of this log. Subscribed.

Here's some more of the bizzo, I've been playing around with some bits and pieces I have lying around, including this scratch turret I made ages ago for a card leman. I think it looks better but it makes it look like a "chickendicator" instead of a vindicator.

Which leads me to a new thought...lol...the other idea I have for a vindicator stand in is the 4 legged crawling vindicator with a ball for the central cab that is real spikey and panelled....making it the Pindicator...

And then you'll see in one of these new pics the newly named "Fat headed dictator" vindicator tank. But it's more orky so I may be forced to convert that one to orkdom....

Here's the pics, here's less chatter:

    Chicken flavoured

    With the first head

And the team Chickendicator and Fatheadedictator with some scrap thralls for scale....

Comments are welcome, I'm tending toward the chickendicator and half considering the fat headed tank as a second vindie in traditional tank form.

My idea for the tanks are they are variations of the vindicator that the Iron Warriors were experimenting with to make them more effective in a battlefield role. They still work like the standard vindies, and they all count as having the usual equipment plus daemonic infestation or whatever it is now, hence the lack of pilot space on Chickenlips. Probably will get havocs as well, but I don't know if it's worth it since they can't fire them anyways, unless someone blows off the main cannons. I suppose if they get neutered that way the havocs aren't a bad backup plan....

Ok, I've compromised on the head. I've kept the same shape, rebuilt it and resized the second head. Here are some pics for you:

I like it a lot better this size, I was almost gonna just leave it chicken style but now I'm happy with the way it looks now.

    That's what bases are for....

It's not that bad, there are some good easy spots to pic it up by. Besides, it is my little desert flower... Of boomy doom ...

I have to say that those conversions, both the Defiler, and the ongoing Vindicator are awesome! Just when I think that the Iron Warriors were stale and boring, you have to come in and shake it up again!

Thanks man, I like to make things different and to add some spice to stuff. The iron warriors have captured my imagination for a while and I finally get to build them using the ideas I've had for a while.

Huh. Have to say that it's quite depressing to read this log.
Why? 'couse I had some idea of building AdMech force with quite similiar consept, you know uber walkers as leman russes and so on. And then I see this thread and realice that my skills in modelling are way too limited in comparison to the OP.
Anyways it's a good read this log and anything else of yours. Keeps me motivated. Maybe in the future i'm capable in modelling skills as yours. Before then, bye,,,

edeit: you have to understand that it's 6:44 in the morning and i'm quite wasted, so please bear with me...

Well today I started playing around with the dread...why? Coz I wanted to, that's why.

Here's the original pic they have in the chaos codex, so much better than the nasty old dread they made out of it:

Here's the parts I've updated so far:

And beside the box and the vin-diesel....

Re: Iron Warriors uber bang bang death army

Here's todays udpate. Haven't been well and I haven't had much inspiration for the CCW's on the dread. I want this to be a 2 ccw dread with a heavy flamer and a twinlinked bolter, but I have yet to develop the ccw's so that I like them...

Been stuffing around with ideas and they look stoopid. Feel free to give me some ideas, I'm at a loss at the moment.

At least there are rivets in this update...lol

Rightio, I'm pretty happy with the dread now. I decided to go with the power flail design and boy, it turned out heaps better than I thought. I need to learn to trust my first impressions...

I feel that I've gotten it to the point where if I add too much more it'll be out of aesthetic balance, but feel free to give me new ideas that will help cinch it up another notch in how it looks. Enough talk, onto le pikachus:

"I feel not for you, pitiful mortal. I will not spare you, it shall not end quickly, for my unholy master will have is way with your essence."

What do you think? I'm pretty happy with how it's turned out.

    wow... those flails look sick!
you've given me some ideas for when I have the money to add to my Iron Warriors for Apocalypse.
I've seen quite a few bipedal Defilers, but can't quite figure out how to do it.. being a Metal Gear fan and the general fact the look much better, I want to add a couple to my army, can you give any tips?

Outstanding, you've taken an old tired model and brought new life into it! I love the Power Scourges! What kinda wire did you use to make them?

The best advice I can give anyone about this stuff is look at multipart toys and other types of models outside 40K. I have been using parts out of crushgear solid kits and I have a number of missiles and spares from model aircraft kits I use all the time.

Also, get yourself a stock of different photos to look at when you need inspiration. And don't be afraid to cut up some expensive models!!! Just make sure you're really really patient while doing it or you'll end up worse off that when you started!

I have a huge collection of all sorts of bits and pieces from all over the place that I use all the time, as well as plastic rod, tube, square and rectangular tube, spikes, and all kinds of useful shapes and things.

On the scourges I used 2 different types of wire. The first one is a mild steel craft wire that's about 1mm thick; the second is guitar string about the same thickness. And the "knuckles" are really really thin solder wrapped around the bends, three loops each and then glued in place with superglue.

Thanks for the comments guys, this one turned out better than I expected. It's always good when you persevere with a model and it turns out well, even though halfway through it's not looking as good as you hoped.
