    Elysian D-99

After reading through Captain Brown's and Chaos and Evil's Elysian logs, and getting back to London for my second year in uni, I decided to start an elysian army.

Seeing both the D-99 list and the original list, I decided to make the D-99, pre anphelion, considering its a relatively small army number-wise compared to other guard armies, and I like the idea of an elite unit, after making lots and lots of cadians.

    Without further ado some photographs,

I wanted to make the uniform just like Karl Kopinsky's(spellcheck) fantastic illustration, desert fatigues with green flak armour and helmet, keeping the colour palette at minimum and realistic as possible:

    My test model:

And Im sure some people never saw the models in actual size, I unfortunately didn't bring a marine with me here, but I got a vostroyan model that'll do the trick:

Unfortunately, I decided to build the army 3 days before gamesday, and although I ordered the core of the army forge world said it'll be a while for them to send it and they haven't arrived yet. The elysians Im painting now is one of the last flamer-demo squad they had in the warhammer world nottingham(yes I went there to check ) so fingers crossed for my models to arrive.

I must also say that the models are just...fantastic. I was speechless after seeing the amount of detail on the jumpsuit, the faces and even the bayonet holder's little engraved aquila. The painting is a joy and well worth the money and time spent on them.

Thanks for reading and I hope I'll be motivated enough to make this a fast&fun log for both you and me =)

PS: While you wait for the other models, please check cpt.Brown and CoE's logs, they're fantastic:

... I had no idea they were that small compared to the Vostroyans. Daaaaaamn and they cost twice as much too

Nice look, love the limited palette for the Elysians, they're some fine pseudo-realistic models.

Thanks for the comment devo =)

Yea, I really like the fact they're smaller though, fits in the true-scale thing, and even looks better when they're next to truescale marines!

anyways, minor update with the 2nd chap on the way, just got the base to do:

Nice work, it fits well with the cadian 8th, even as much so that you could count them as Cadian 8th Veterans.

BUT WHERE ARE THE GRAV CHUTES!!!! I DEMAND GRAV CHUTES!!!!

And, they're not THAT small, that voystorian is 'tiptoeing' mid run, whilst the comparative eleysian is 'squatting' of sorts, so they ARE to scale.

    Re: Elysian D-99

The second guy's finished, and even a 3rd chap, with a group shot!

Now Im going to make the flamer guardsman, a question though, Im not quite fond of the length of the flamer barrel, so made a MSpaint adjustment, still can't decide though. Can you help me a bit?

The second one is the original, I think the 4th and the 5th one are my favourites, although the 4th one might burn his hands a bit when fired

and this time I'll make it with the grav-chute, was keeping them for later but...ahwell, you demand it!

    Loving your elysians, subscribed

In my opinion 4th is best, a compact flamer suits better the particular equipment of elysian forces

I vote for the 1st, the 4th looks like it'll burn his hands off, IMHO... Liking the paint job very much, very realistic! The difference with the Vostroyan is pretty big though Must be the intimidating big hat...

i Hate to be picky but in that fantastic drawing of *insert name here* (cant be botherd to spell it) the armour is actually ment to be codex gray.

Btw The elysians do look fantastic anyway and my vote goes in for number 5

    Re: Elysian D-99

Okay, starting the flamer guy tonight, since its sunday I'll cut some slack off my 1 elysian per day, Im running out of the 6-pack flamer squad I got, and the mail order still has not arrived

not sure about the promethium tube colour or the metal-leather thing that holds it. and probably will shorten the flamer length to either the 4th or the 1st one on the photo.

really? erm...dammit, but I really like the colour scheme I got at the moment, so I guess I'll keep it. *curses*

Uhm, I left all of my black templars back in turkey, but I'll get a photo with a tau battlesuit, a proper standing vostroyan and a tyranid lictor asap.(models I got with me at the moment)

Thanks for the comments and see you tomorrow !

I'd say either the 2nd or 5th for the flamer, they look better with a bit of length.

I never realized how elysians are small compared to other GW minis... and that's isn't a bad thing...

As for the tube, I'd paint it black as it's probably supposed to be made of rubber or semirigid plastic of some sort (or some other 41th millennium goodness ): if I were a guard engineer I'd make the promethium canisters metal, while the wrapping around them should be green (that way it recalls the uniform's color, a soldier has to look properly elegant after all ).

I'm liking the crisis suit, nice weathering on it. Can we have some more pics?

It was only a test model to see if I can do some weathering, and if I can make a nice looking tau model (wanted to start tau before elysians). Unfortunately I never got around to finish the model, the arms&jetpack are still waiting to be painted, and the light on the chestplate was done inverse should be white in inside, blue outside, looks funny right now =)
It was also a model a friend of mine gave me with horrid painting on it, so even with breakfluid I couldn't get all the paint out properly, the joints were glued together with a revell plastic glue which is why the legs look so
funny, I can't change them at all without ruining the model.

    Back to elysians:

I finished up my first grav-chute guy who's also the flamer in the squad BUT still haven't decided if I want to shorten the length of the barrel or not, I guess it'll stay like this till I make my mind, not hard to change it anyway.

Im also unhappy with the rubble behind him, I think I'll make it a matte-red building, this gray version just looks like some rock instead of a building piece.

Well, I'll answer that yes, you can actually make a nice looking tau model

Good job with the flamer specialist, I agree with you that a reddish building ruin would be better looking, by now it blends too much with the rest of the base. I'd add some black drybrushing and/or wash on the flamer nozzle, though.

Looks good so far, I also believe that the flamer would look better with some length to it. Leave it as it is in my opinion. I like your Idea to make the ruble like a matte building it might ad a little color to the setting.

    Great job,
