Winter Warfare: The Vostroyan 53rd.

Hiya,

Recently I've started a new Imperial Guard army, the Vostroyan First Born. Inspired by Light of the Emperor's (brilliant army), I'd decided to go for green bases as well (after having experimented with blue...). Because my painting level is pretty average, I thought I could make my miniatures a little more interesting by giving 'm snowbases. I'm really pleased with how they came out.

The snow was made by painting the areas where it is applied white. Then, using an old brush, I painted a mix of pva glue, some water and baking soda on it. After that, I dipped the bases in my pot of GW snow - the baking soda mix alone came out rather matt/dull.

So here are some pics. Excuse the poor lightning, it's getting a tad dark already, but I wanted to show 'm now ;>.





Now those where my test models. I'm off to painting another dozen or so right now.

nice work man!! after the CSM Codex came out, I was so mad with Gav that I alredy started a Vostroyan army. Soon I'll have some painted examples, I'll send a picture. I also planning in using a older look in the tanks (I dont think Hi-tec Russ and Chimeras look good side by side with this kinda of imperial russians of the 19th century). Keep the good work.

Well done! It's always good to see more Vostroyan armies. Good call on the snow as it contrasts well with the green coats and all around darker look of the models.

And last but not least, my new ogryns! These models were fun to paint and I think they're absolutely awesome sculpts.. just oozing death metal \m/ yeahh brutal.




I was too lazy (or not confident enough) to sculpt shako's on 'm. Maybe that'll happen one day, but now I just pretend they're not bothered by the cold at all, hehe. Still want to get the fourth ogryn, but the local shop didn't have it in stock. Oh, and I want a female ogryn some day, 'cause abhumans need love too!

They look good! Nice to see some Vostroyan Ogryns too; I think they fit in fine the way they are though, the paint scheme ties them in with the rest of your force. Looking forward to more!

Currently working on the Platoon Command Squad, which I plan to finish this weekend. Next week 2 Leman Russes, 1 Demolisher and 2 Chimera's will arrive by mail. Still trying to come up with a nice colorscheme. Thinking about simple green with a nice in-the-field white-wash and some heavy weathering... :>

What a coincidence, I too am awaiting 2 russ, a demolisher and 2 chimeras (along with a hellhound, centaur and 2 sentinals).

Vostroyan tank colors are, according to GW, a sandy bleached bone color. I went with the green of my army. A whitewash should look really cool!

Very a nice, and a great use of snow effect and CoD bits, my only critism at the moment would be that the pillars on the CoD wall sections should probably have a little snow accumalated on them as well IMHO, just a little on the corners of the 'plinths' and perhaps some at the very bottom of the metal spikes, theres ridge there it would catch in.
