    Eldar army

[Last update @ page 9 starting with post #174]

    Hi,

I was commissioned to do an Eldar army with a theme of "stealth" and "moonlight". The client finally got the list working and I started painting.

First I produced a test model for the paint scheme:

After that was approved I painted a whole squad to fit it and entered it into 1st polish GD. It placed 3rd, meaning my first ever Golden Demon award!

When I finally received most of the models, I started assembly and converting of the ones I was most looking forward too:

Here's how the converted Vyper looks like:

And with its hood up you can see the magnetised cannon/catapult:

And a side shot for the overall shape:

    Primed Vypers:

And bikes. Note that I added tail wings and half-masks for the riders since the previous pic. That was still before the new gorgeous Jes Goodwyn's eldar bike was shown!

    And I assembled the Harlequins:

    and Squad 2:

As I got 1 Shadowseer too little, I converted one from a regular Harley:

Plus I taught Maugan Ra to run:

Then I painted one Fire Prism up:

Unfortunately here I ran into a few problems:
    1) the carapace wasn't "moonlit" enough. I shall add some more blueish tones as on the underside and rear (shadow grey)
    2) the patterning doesn't work at all.
    3) The prism, as I expected, proved inferior to Falcons. Good I thought about it! The weapons are all magnetised.

This all means this baby is going to a shelf and waiting for a squad to fit the freehands with, and also for me to forget how much work it was to blend all this armour and now repaint it.

Ok, now that we cleared with the client what we wanted from the tanks (each to have a pattern fitting the squad it was transporting: 2 squads of Harleys and 1 squad of Fire Dragons) I had to define what we meant by pattern on the squads. Leaving Fire Dragons for the end, I started with 1 test model for the Harlequins:

    Re: Eldar army

Here my friend Jan from MAS suggested that just swapping the areas patterned for different squads will be too little to differentiate them. He also suggested adding some colour to the pattern.

I photoshopped one pic to show what he meant. The client liked how it looked like!

We're trying to figure out what to change for the squads painting. Suggestions so far:

    1) brighter masks - possibly 1 squad could have white (bright) masks, the other just like on the tester.
    2) The colour of random diamonds - one squad could have purple, the other blue.
    3) Pattern on the cloth - possibly swirls or runes. The same colour as the random diamonds.
    4) some random diamonds for the plain part. Yes, no? Maybe some swirls? Runes? White, purple, blue?
    5) ways to transfer it onto a tank
    6) what about fire Dragons? I suggested lava-like effect from between the armour plates, and cracked lava on the tanks, but orange doeasn't fit teh army! I was suggested by my buddy Piszczu to make this with a blue glow! Like on the underside of the tank. I'm still considering it...

As always, I am completely amazed, the rifles on those rangers look really dope. Finally some inspiration for me to finish my eldar army.

Excellent painting, all of it is brilliant. The one tiny thing I'd question is why the falcons interior is bright enough that it would give away the precense of the "stealthy" force in seconds but other than that i love it.

For the harlequins i would just add a fourth colour of diamond, paint the dragons a dark red colour using the reason that their weapons are akin to black napalm as to keep the stealthyness.

So you are earning big money from me concerning the bases .

Really really impressive painting skills, the light reflections on the fire prism are absolutely fabulous, never seen them better.

    Thanks for comments so far!

I tinkered with the Harlequin model a bit, using bit of advice from lots of people: Jan, Piszczu, Paul, and even a guy from CMON that gave it 7.

I even photoshopped this pic to see how it'll look like for the 2nd squad:

    Nothing final here.

I also finished all the weapons for the Falcons and Vypers. That's how they all looked during painting:

Note the armour bit that goes on the gun is still unpainted.
