Your fortress is coming along nicely, the gun turrets make a good addition of detail rather than having to cut out all the decoration to emulate the GW one.

Bugbait: Awesome terrain. If I had greater precision and attention to detail, I'd build more Imperial-themed terrain...guess I'll have to stick with ramshackle Ork stuff.![]()
@Irondad, dont worry about the plans, if it becomes too hard then I can do my basic scanned version.
@Slaaaaaaaaanesh, I would think that if your going to make a fortified building, weapons would trump angels and skulls anytime!
@Void Reaper, nothing wrong with ramshackle ork terrain, I have lots on my "things to do list"
Update
All of the heavy bolters are undercoated, most of the wall mounts are assembled, I used a cheap bar magnet to hold them on.
Started thinking about a few small details like some ventilation fans, maybe a few spotlights next.

Just one word: Fantastic![]()
You are right bugbait, heavy bolter over stone decoration makes good business!
Thanks Cerbere15
The fortress is close to getting the base sanded, but I have a small distraction in the making.
A basic motorway overpass based on Fallout 3, probaly be 3 or 4 sections around 15 inches long each.

I can't tell you how many times I fell off that bridge.

That's going to be an awesome bridge when it's done. Will it just be the main bridge or will it have ramps leading up to it and stuff?
Keep up the great work.

@TG, I have more problems with not enough ammo, guest your not meant to try and kill everything, still dont understand that concept . . .
Thanks Valkan454, there will be 2 or 3 sections similar to this, I do have a peice set aside for a ramp but to get a realistic angle will make it over 2 foot long, still thinking about that one.
Update
I have capped the sides with PVA glue and card, happy with the strenght now, progress on the broken bit, expect a lot of exposed rusty rebar. Will try to make a clear plastic stepped ramp that can be used to place your minis as they assend this bit.

You should make your spotlights with real lights so they can turn onlike the power generator.
By the way where do u buy all of your stuff? cause foamboard at warehouse stationary is rip off......
Hey Bugbait,
I was flipping through this thread and was wondering how you constructed that Homer, er, uh . . .emperor statue pedestal. Ever do any construction drawings on that one? Do those outer vertical ribs just cover the hexagon seams or do they run to the center? Plus dude, your work is getting crazier and crazier. It's awesome. Hoping to crank out some stuff this summer when it's too hot to play in the garage. I still have to finish my minifortess/bastion. I may start a second one and get them both going. Any way, thanks for all your inspiration.
@Zekewaka, I did think about making working spot lights, when I did my Baneblade I didnt know how to paint the lense to look right so I made a working one, reflector out of heavy tin foil + ultra bright LED + lense from a plastic bottle. Not sure if its worth the effort as you cant play games in the dark! (unless you have glow in the dark dice and ruler)
I do get by foamboard from Warehouse stationery, they sometimes have large sheets 900-1200ish that work out a good price.
Thanks Throgar, The staue of the "Emporer' started as a hexagon, pictures provide enough info?

That would be the ultimate Nightfight game. Or turn the lights out and play turn 1 of Dawn of War in the dark? :P
My brain is filled with fantastical images of tanks with working searchlights, monoliths and necrons with glowing guns, eldar with glowing spirit stones, etc....all laid out on a darkened table, where you can't see the rest of the room. Would have a certain cinematic quality to it.

Someone probably already asked, but where do you get your mesh from?
Anyways, I am super jealous of your abilities to create awesome stuff with what is basically pretty cheap materials! Is it really just foamcore and cardboard?

The orange plastic mesh for flooring I get it from a local fabric shop, glues down well with PVA wood glue. For the tripple tank I used aluminium fly mesh from the local hardware shop.
I find using cheap materials a challenge to make it look interesting, thank you google images for ideas!

Yes, by Jove, I think i've got it. The sad thing is, I would never have been able to reverse engineer that thing. Thanks a bunch. Now to find an Eric Cartman topper. "Respect my authoritay!"
Hey Bug
Ok, my statue progres is coming along nicely for one day. Thanks again for those pictures. I'll try to get some pictures up soon. Recently did a couple of pipe stacks of the horizontal nature. Came up with yet another question, what do u use for pipe/drinking straw elbows? Lke those used on your cracker project.
Good to hear about your progress, hope you can find a "Cartman"!
Pipe bends are made from sprue that has been glued together and then filed into shape, not as hard as it sounds just takes some time, the trick is to make the glued bit large enough to hold onto easily.
Made some progress on the 3rd bridge section.
