Hmm... love the takeaway food container kitbash! For the grain elevator, I was thinking something more like this, or this, but you've got the idea.

Your detailing always amazes me. I see how you could have gotten the arc for the interior bracing on the sides, but did you calculate the recess on the end door, or was it by trial-and-error. Either way, that is excellent.

@SSG, Im not sure about the grain elevator, Im trying to make terrain that you can interact with, most of these structures are very tall so you dont even get to use the top, they are only good for line of site blocking, maybe there are smaller versions?

@VK the door cutout in the plastic container was made by using the door shape template as a start, then the door and wall/alcove was inserted, marked and then cutout, no fancy maths involved here!

    Reinforcing and rivets added.

From Noodle Bowl? I hadn't thought of saving those. Very cool result though.

Well, I admit that a true-to-scale version would be prohibitively large. The beauty of the design, in my opinion, is that you can scale it up or down to fit your table top. I think a few crisp cans would be a good place to start for the silos. The walkway across the top would be perfect for minis, and if you're looking for something a bit smaller the augur or dispenser chute would be a nice detail. At any rate, I don't mean to push you toward something you aren't interested in; I just wanted to offer a suggestion. Best wishes!

@MK Container from the Noodle Canteen, they are everywhere in AK.

@SSG Please dont stop with the suggestions! You got me thinkin and I have a basic sketch, a central structure with 4 vertical silos so that it is in a cross layout when viewed from above, there would be pipes/escalators and walkways from the center to each silo, the silos would be spaced out so that you can move around everything, Im not sure how the output for each silo would look like, early days.

Hab nearly finished, there are two rings on the roof waiting for the fan blades to be made, maybe more detail to be added.

Noodle Canteen, that's the ones I was thinking of! There's one in New Lynn down the road from me.

Anyway, the end result looks good. A cunning mixture of low and high tech.

I love the simplicity of the design... in fact, that's why I love all of your work Bugbait. I keep pics in a folder for inspiration.
I reject your reality, and substitute my own.

Thanks all for your kind words!

Im calling this done now, posibly came out a bit on the dirty side but I think I like it this way.

Painted with spray undercoat, Kommando Khaki base + Codex Grey + a very heavy dirt wash.

Im going to have to make some more to go with it!

This looks great. You'll definitely have to make a few more of these - it would be cool to see some differences in size too.

I'm a big borderlands fan and I really like those buildings. Fantastic job (like the rest of your amazing terrain). I'm now searching for something similar to build for my table!

As discussed here are the Barrel Plans for everyone to use. It just helps to have the guide lines. The pdf is layered so you can view the instructions, turn off the Hazmat and Hazard symbols (no need to print them out EVERY time) if you need to. Thanks again for such a great idea, I really want to create at bunch of fuel barrel cover to accommodate the new 6th edition Fuel Reserve rule (page 105) and now I'm glad I can create my own instead of purchasing them.

Sorry about the 6mb file size I shrank it as much as I could.

I tried attaching it to my post but there was problems.

You can find it Here at my site Dungeon Crawlers look for 28mm Barrels file.

    Thanks!

@HP nice work, I have been thinking about adding hazzard signs, particularly like the Bio hazard one

@A, I have started work on the fyrestone bar, it will have an exposed interior with minimal detail as the top will not lift off.

    Re: Apocalypse 40k Terrain

This is a phenomenal thread! I hope you don't mind but I have downloaded all your plans for buildings etc! I have just made a foldable gaming table for the students in the wargames club (pics in my terrain plog) at work and they have no terrain either so this really helps. The DT dept also has a laser cutter which I think can cut foam board....... don't suppose you have those plans in a format could be imported into 2D design? don't know much about the file formats but it has something to do with wmf/vector files?!?!?
I will of course post any pics of terrain we make (may be a while yet though)
Thanks for sharing your awesome plans!

I love dropping by to look at your terrain Bugbait. It's always very inspirational, even if I don't have the space to have as large a terrain collection as I would like! (though if I ever do have space I've always wanted to make a proper 40k scale cathedral...) Making terrain out of your leftovers takes things to a new level though, amazing! Looking forward to seeing the monolith complete with EL wire too. Out of curiosity how easy is EL wire to work with?

    Re: Apocalypse 40k Terrain

@ Andy, My plans will always be freely available, hope to see some terrain shortly! My plan making skills are very low, usually templates copied onto paper and then scanned, if you ask Iron Dad nicely he has done two professional quality plans that might be exportable to a useful format.

@ DL, large ruined cathedral is also on my list (its a big list the grows faster than I can build!) I was thinking about making it modular so it could be scattered around the table or combined as a single ruin. ELwire is flexible, you can wrap it around your finger easily but it will try to straighten out as its slightly springy, power is feed via two wires to one end so you should be able to cut it to size if required, my 2 x AA battery power pack will drive 3 meters worth.

    Re: Apocalypse 40k Terrain

Thanks Komodo, I promise I will finish the DoW HQ one day!

Floor painted grey and then Kommando Khaki, cracks done with a pencil and the a few dabs of paint over the top.
Interior walls done with 3 shades of grey + artists sponge to dab on extra colour followed by a dirt wash.
Crimper + ali cans for the awning.
Will be able to start painting tomorrow.
