Bugbait, Dude! This is really looking sweet! You are a master terrain craftsman that's for sure!

Oh yeah, I found out the technical name for the "granny grating". It's sometimes called plastic needlepoint canvas.

Thanks Bahir, my head is now two sizes larger!
I did find needle point canvas, but it was very string like, not plastic looking like your stuff.

    Update

The mesh flooring will be OK, dry brushing it boltgun is proving to be difficult, need to go over some areas again, the doors warning signs and wolf insignia have come out OK, need to dirty it up and do a bit of wear and tear on doors and floor. They even have a drinks machine now.

    Update

Slow work on the plasma generator, glueing it together was a bit of a mission to start with, was planning to have this in a mostly intact very gothic building, but it turned out a bit bigger than I first imagined. More technical gubbins to be added to the small alcoves.

Not sure how Im going to paint it, weathered red was the first thought, but if it has nothing to do with a marine force then adept mechanicas wouldnt be looking after it, any thoughts?

Wow the work invested in the turret guns certainly paid off, good work. Are you going to don any more weathering to it? I like the rust spots on the doors.

    Re: Apocalypse 40k Terrain

I have been thinking of doing something similar. I was thinking of buying one of those cheap LED lanterns and building machinery around it.
I thought I could put clear green or light blue plastic around the glass or paint it with clear green/blue paint to make it look like plasma glowing when turned on.
You could put something similar in the middle of yours.

@ tcraigen, I still have more detailing to do, Im thinking about redoing the main gates, maybe light grey with less rust than at the moment. I really do enjoy construction a lot more than painting . . .

    @ WSE, Thanks!

@ Tommygun, I had planned to use EL Wire (EL Wire Linky) to make a power core (no heat apparently from EL wire and its bendable) but now I have a better plan that should look twice as good, Im am going to keep you in suspense for a while

This peice should go together nicely with my Apoc Laser defence station that will come next, I can see the EL wire being used in that one.

My globe is about 6 inches, runs off mains power, will need to work out how to get it battery powered.

    Re: Apocalypse 40k Terrain

That looks fantastic. You could hide the power cord in some piping.
Now build something around a Tesla Coil and a Jacobs ladder.

I do have enough info to build a jacobs ladder (neon sign power supply needed) I think the risk to human life if touched might not be a good idea!

    Re: Apocalypse 40k Terrain

Dude, you make me want to come to NZ to play with all your cool terrain! Now how can I explain to my wife our next vacation is going to be in NZ...

I wonder if a Jacob's ladder would melt a min.... "Dude, I wouldn't move your Terminators too close to my scout squad by the generator... you'll regret it!" (insert melting noise of terminators being melted by the JL)

Plasma gen is on hold for a while, entered a terrain contest over at Librarium-online, inspired by Page 55 Cities of Death, made from cheap materials, looks like this
