    Re: Apocalypse 40k Terrain

Thanks for the thumbs up, like the Orky idea, might do a trashed centre section one day, I know my Orks would appreciate it.

    Update

Well this was a fun way to spend an evening, gluing down the main card bits, making rivets and gluing them on, very time consuming. Used my trusty dividers to step across and leave holes to mark where each rivet was to be placed. Will polyurethane over the whole lot to make it last.

Does any body think its worth the effort to do the inside of the door with similar reinforcing bands and rivets, or should I just leave it plain?

    Re: Apocalypse 40k Terrain

Glad you guys like it so far, I just hope that when its finished it looks as good as the picture in my brain.

    Update - Centre section LIVES!!!

You can see the curtain rail that has been screwed to the supporting wood which in turn has been glued and screwed to the 6mm hardboard base. Holes will be drilled in the rail to fit limit stop pins to ensure the doors don’t fully disappear when open, and only halfway along the rail when closed. Was thinking about running some string around some guides and between each door so that they would opened/closed in a co-ordinated manner, but I thought it would probably come off and jam up at a later date so shelved that idea.

And the second pic shows what it looks like loosely fitted together, wide angle lens has distorted some of the angles a bit.

    Re: Apocalypse 40k Terrain

You want a close up of the doors as they are now, hanging from the rail?

Not doing the co-ordinated open thingy, knowing my luck it would snag and not be able to open unless surgery was used to unjam it.

The guard tower tops are my favorite parts of the entire piece. They'd be perfect as on the ground bunkers as well. Really great project, and great execution so far. Look forward to seeing those templates you mentioned ^_-

    Re: Apocalypse 40k Terrain

Didnt think about using the guard stations as anything else, could get about 7 or 8 marines in there.

    Update

Heres a pic of the doors fully open, there will be another wall section made of foamboard to go between the guard stations so you wont see much of the doors when open.

Have started to plaster over the polystyrene walls. I want to carve in a block pattern later so I needed to make sure I got a consistent thickness, I placed 1.5mm thick batons of balsawood on the wall first, work the plaster and then removed them, plaster over the gaps the next day. This is going to take days!
