    Update on the Propane tank

2 layers of paper and PVA, plaster to fill the gaps and an automotive spot filler primer to get the surface mostly done, Im think it needs something else, Im trying to make weld lines with PVA but I need to find a finer tube to make it work.

Hi there Bugbait, I think the tank needs some rivets to make the ball look more industrial. All in all though nice looking tankers once painted and weathered up.

    Re: Apocalypse 40k Terrain

Not to get too technical about fictional terrain, but getting an air tight pressure vessel to be air tight is a very difficult thing to do with numerous riveted plates.
I think 19th century steam boilers where the only time they were used.
I think a smooth surface is fine, just weather it with dark streaks and a little rust over a white body.
If you want to do anything with the surface, I would suggest putting down lines of green stuff to look like welded plates.

Yeah you are right about that Tommygun, weld ing marks are a much better solution.

I just happened to stumble on to this thread and WOW! This is some amazing work. I think that the coolest thing so far is the Plasma Generator.

    Re: Apocalypse 40k Terrain

Thanks Fechik, I still havent got the plasma gen running off a battery pack yet.

Made a ladder, used a small peice of metal with holes in it to keep the spacing of the rungs even, drill one hole, use the first wire rung to hold the metal template in position while the next hole is drilled, repeat until finished, got and old machone vice to hold it together while the super glue dries, this is quite a fast way to make a good looking ladder.

    Re: Apocalypse 40k Terrain

I went through every terrain blog on the forum a couple days ago and bookmarked all the oned I wanted to look at for inspiration. With the quality of your work I knew I was going to bookmark it before I started. I'd love to play a game over your terrain but guess I'll have to settle for my own versions of it.

*fist pump* Brilliant Bugbait, I just looked at those spherical refinery things on this site: Go to "Buildings" then "Chemical Plants" check out all that inspiration! (Seven pages of Chem Plants!).

I think you may be the first person to actually make a sphere tank for 40k, if I'm not mistaken. *Cheers*

    Thank You

    Re: Apocalypse 40k Terrain

Thanks guys, I wanted a good looking ladder and that was the easiest way I could think of, the vice makes holding it all together easy.

Just about finished painting the cracker.

PVA glue used on the gas tank for welds, hope they will be visable when painted.

Started on a bulk promethium storage tank, plan to cover this with fine corrigated card.

Thanks Daniel36, stop wishin and start building!

@TG, good to see others who dont mind humour in the murky dark future of misery

Fine corrigated card glued on with Amos glue stick, great stuff!! Welded wire mesh handrail, and a ladder, sitting on a 3mm MDF base, pipes next.

    Re: Apocalypse 40k Terrain

I like your latest piece, simple and effective.

By the way was there a general plan on how many refinery based terrain pieces you were going to make? It looks like the whole table would explode as soon as a boltgun got fired with all the flamables avaliable.

    Re: Apocalypse 40k Terrain

    Thanks Yayale

Im planning to make another large storage tank that is destroyed, a pipeline run and a working pumpjack or two. Next might be a ruined building with large chimney inspired by a recent post around here that I cant find. And maybe one day a large industrial building as a centre piece.

House rule? any missed shots get resolved gainst any flamable terrain within 6 inches that then detonates 3D6 strenght ?, any other flamable terrain pieces caught in the explosion also detonate 3D6, could be a short game . . .
