Well then, here's the story.
2 of my flatmates in Uni have been ogling my 40k figures for ages now, so we decided to play a game, 3 way, using my stuff, on the kitchen table. We had roughly 1000 points each, as a starter battle.
For terrain, we had spare bottles of coke, orange juice, battery walls, some plastic cups and random other paraphernalia, but it was about 20% terrain on a 4x4 board. The Tau player started in one corner, I, as Chaos, in the next corner along, and the LatD player in the middle on the opposite edge. Each player was allowed to deploy 12" from the edge, and 18" across, or in mine and the Tau's case, 9" along each corner.
Onto the army lists:

Turn 1.
LatD
The LatD player got first turn, followed by the Tau and then my Chaos Marines. Just after deployment I felt quite outnumbered, especially since the other two also had vehicles, yet I had faith in my superior quality
The Leman Russ moved forward towards the Tau, intent on disabling the Hammerhead before it could return fire. Nothing else moved. The Battlecannon fired, and scattered 5" completely off the Tau skimmer and missed anything around it also. The Defiler also tried to barrage my Terminators, yet it also scattered wildly. A very short first turn.
Tau
As a response to the Leman Russ's aggression, the Hammerhead turned it's turret and fired a high velocity slug at the human armour, yet failing to even hit it!
Shas'O Shovah moved forward to hide behind some cover nearer my Thousand Sons Squad Theta. The Fire Warriors shuffled around a bit to make a better firing line.
Chaos
So, here I was, despairing at the thought of my Slow and Purposeful troops, yet both moved the whole hog of 6" towards their relative targets [O'Shovah and the LatD Marine squad]. The Terminators advanced through the middle, and the Reaper wielder spotted an oppurtunity, the Russ' side armour. With a nod from his superior, he turned, fired, and destroyed the Russ in a dashing display of Marine-quality firepower. Ahriman skulked behind the Terminators, afraid of a Railgunning.
Turn 2.
LatD
Yet more failed battlecannoning from the Defiler, and nothing else with a target, the Chaos Marines took cover nearby.
Tau
The Hammerhead fired again, this time at the Defiler, which promptly got hit, penetrated, destroyed, blew up, and killed some unfortunate guardsmen around it. Shas'O Shovah did a little JSJ and Plasma'd two of Theta's Thousand Sons down.
Chaos
The Thousand Sons of Theta moved around the cover, and a combined psychic assault from Ahriman and Theta's Sorcerer Champions brought O'Shovah down, and a cry of horror struck the Enclave's Fire caste. The Terminators and Omega Sons marched ahead, trying to catch up with the beleagured LatD.
Turn 3
LatD
2 Grenade Launchers fired this turn, one with a small blast giving the Terminators a slight breeze, the other failing to hit the Fire Warriors, the Command squad moved into cover by the Chaos Marines.
Tau
The Shas'O and his bodyguard moved towards Squad Theta, and blasted away with all they had, annihilating the entire squad, but only just. The Fire Warriors moved forwards. except for Flame Squad, which promptly roasted the Traitor Squad which fired at them. The Hammerhead targetted the Chaos Sorcerer, and failed to hit him.
Chaos
The Terminators advanced further, throwing down a hail of Storm Bolter and Reaper fire, eliminating the LatD Commander and his guardians. Squad Omega advanced and charged the enemy Chaos Marine squad, and Ahriman killed the Tau Shas'O with 2 Bolts of Change, though he also lost a wound to Perils. In assault the Thousand Sons beat down the enemy marines, though only because of the Aspiring Sorcerer's Force Weapon, and only lost one in return. God bless 4+ Inv. saves.
Turn 4.
LatD
Having only the Chaos Sorcerer and a single Traitor squad left, he stand and shot with the Grenade Launcher, again to no effect, and the Sorcerer tried and failed a pot-shot at the Hammerhead.
Tau
The Hammerhead painted the field with the blood of the Traitors with a Submunitions Blast. The Fire Warriors all fired at the Terminators, with an astonishing 32 S5 shots, not a single Astartes fell. The Crisis suits tried to add oil to the flames, and failed to harm the superhuman warriors.
Chaos
Ahriman was getting irritated, and he assaulted the Crisis suits while he could. Squad Omega did nothing much, moving a mere 2" back to the battle, and the Terminators fired, killing 5 of Flame Squad, before destroying the rest in assault. Ahriman however, did miserably, having lost another wound trying to Bolt of Change the Crisis suits on the charge, he hit with only 1 Attack, wounded, but failed his Psychic Test for the Force Weapon. The Crisis suits' owners were suitably peeved, and took the remaining life force from the Chief Librarian.
Turn 5
LatD
The Chaos Sorcerer, lone remaining model, tried again to damage the Hammerhead, but the Bolt glanced off it's front armour.
Tau
The Fire Warriors moved far forward, double-tapping the Terminators, killing 3, while the Crisis suits finished the others off with a flurry of Fusion and Plasma blasts. The Hammerhead finally splattered the LatD Sorcerer with a Railgun to the face.
Chaos
The Greater Daemon arrives! Squad Omega's champion was the victim, and the Daemon surged forward towards the Tau.
Turns 6 & 7
The Crisis suits were caught out trying to snipe the Greater Daemon and forgetting to JSJ back, and were mutilated by the fearsome beast's assault move. The entire Tau firepower was directed at the Greater Daemon, but it failed to even damage him. The Hammerhead killed more of Squad Omega, leaving but one remaining.
Then the Greater Daemon assaulted the Fire Warriors, and, lo and behold, hit with only 3 attacks during the two assault phases, while the Fire Warriors, needing 5s to hit and 6s to Wound, even with a 4+ Inv. save from the Daemon, they sent it back to hell.
As a parting gift, the Hammerhead's railgun pulverized the last of Squad Omega, and the game was over.
Lessons learnt:
Exploding vehicles are the most entertaining things in 40k
The Thousand Sons are now very very powerful, with their AP3 and ignoring half of the things that scare MEQs = Plasma, Railguns, Lascannons, Battle Cannons, Melta Weapons, Power Weapons... etc.
Ahriman is indeed overconfident =)
