    Hello Daniel

I haven't commented on this log before, which I find very odd as your stuff is all very good. Your painting is very nice indeed - I love the rich colours on your recent Greatswords and both the dragon and Cockatrice (buckaawwww!) came out very well indeed. How is your mountain of unpainted stuff looking these days?

Well done on championing Storm of Magic, it's refreshing to see someone being so supportive of a game in general (and your battle shots help a great deal). Your Beastman friend looks to have some nice pieces there, which doesn't hurt.

Keep up the good work, this a nice and colourful log and I love the variety of stuff you cover

    Kind regards

    Ragsta

Don't worry about it. Thanks for commenting now. My mountain of unpainted stuff is getting smaller and smaller as I have been selling off loads of stuff already. Happy about it too. And yes, I am very much for Storm of Magic. It's so much more fun. Thanks for taking a look!

Re: Daniel36's Log - Vindar 136th and other stuff

Had a battle last Friday. It was a test battle to try out some of our new shinies. My Empire versus my friend's Vampire Counts.
I got absolutely butchered but I learned quite a lot from the battle. For one, you really, REALLY don't want to deploy your Demigryphs first for him to react with his Hexwraiths.

A small taster of how the battle ensued:

My scenic base shows well the awesomeness of scenic bases. Those houses are definitely getting some basing, because it just adds SO much.

    My Greatswords and Militia.
The more I look at my Militia (in this case bolstered by some suitably piratical looking Flaggelants), the more I want to uberhorde them. They are just SO AWESOME!!! Of course it helps that I have quite a few unique models in the front rank.

The first turn. Things were looking alright still for me here.

A turn later things weren't looking too hot anymore for my man. We quit after this... Well, I did anyways, hahaha.

Lesson learnt: Zombies are absolutely awesome. The modeling opportunities are nigh endless and they are absolutely brutal on the battlefield. Tarpit is the correct term for these buggers, that's for sure!!

Tomorrrow I am going to play a 1k battle of my Wood Elves against a club member's Dark Elves. My list is quite surprising (to me), and I am curious to see if it works.

Lol! How many units are in that scrum?

it reminds me of an asterix and obelix battle somewhat

Re: Daniel36's Log - Vindar 136th and other stuff

Two of mine and three of his. Basically what happened was, I thought I could smash right through his Zombie horde by combining my Militia and Greatswords, backed up by a Witch Hunter and a Warrior Priest, to consolidate into his (small) Skeleton Retinue with his Lord in, hiding behind.

Slight miscalculation of mine, as the Zombies went on fighting. They were moaning a bit, but as you know they never give up.
After that, his Skeleton Horde and his Grave Guard horde with Vampire in it smashed into the sides of my units and we didn't even bother rolling the dice, as we all knew the outcome of that one. It was a pretty cinematic event nevertheless though.

Colour me suitably impressed with your Empire and that board. Loving the scenic base on the cannon. Even though you lost it looks like it was a fun game and the way you talk about it shows you quite enjoyed finding out how hazardous zombies are.

Yes, treat zombies the way you would treat them in real life. Simply walk past them at a quicker pace than they can keep up with, and you'll be fine. His deployment was a lot smarter too. Next time he won't be so lucky though.

We are going to cut up the battlemat today and put the pieces on 60 by 60 MDF boards. It will be less pretty, but easier for setting up.

Liking the table a lot - the buildings look fantastic.

Without scrolling back through the thread, can you say what the source for the ruined keep is?

Re: Daniel36's Log - Vindar 136th and other stuff

Yes I can. The ruined keep is a Ziterdes model. I don't think they still make it. The weird thing with Ziterdes is they discontinued a LOT of really cool items. No idea why. I am fortunate to have some of the pieces. They are still a bit of a hit-or-miss company in terms of product quality but this particular piece was really nice. It comes pre-painted but I did paint it up myself, because it was a rather simple paint job.

The other buildings you probably already know are Tabletop Gaming World. Their building are a hit-and-hit harder type of deal, they are always awesome. I can fully recommend those.

I had wonderes about those ruins, too, and I was sure I had seen them before.
Good to know I can't buy them anymore. Or else I probably would have.

    I spoke too soon:
    http://www.ziterdes.de/ziterdes/en/p...64&subcatID=66

Their item categories are a bit strange.

There is another ruin, akin to the Lord of the Rings piece that Forgeworld made, that is really nice and very affordable. Also, I just checked their site again and they have a really nice selection of town houses which are pretty cheap and their material is one of their boons, as it is incredibly light and durable.

Too bad they decided to aim towards dungeon designs, as those pieces are a tad on the expensive side.

Open air Warhammer? Now that's a great idea.
Ziterdes I knew, but tabletop-world I didn't. They got some sweet terrain pieces - bookmarked for later.

Re: Daniel36's Log - Vindar 136th and other stuff

    Thanks Kisanis. It's appreciated.

Gargobot, you didn't know about TTW? Wow... They're a pretty prominent company already, quite a few fans here on Warseer. DAGabriel has a lot of their stuff, Emperor Norton as well, they have a project log on here too (Building the Medieval City), you should definitely take a look-see there.

Anyways, I got my butt kicked once more, this time by Dark Elves. A new player, but that didn't stop him. He had some horrible luck though. He took Lore of Fire, which was very very smart of him, considering half my army is made of twigs. Rolling 7 power dice four times in a row and not once rolling a double 6... Yeah, consider me barbequed. It was a fun battle though, lots of tense moments, and I was the first to kill off his Hydra, which was a good feeling.

Next club night I am going to test out my own game system, Chronicles. I will let you guys know how that goes and show you a link to the rules when I put them up, which will be sometime in the next two weeks. I am looking forward to it. I hope the system works, because if not it would have been a year and a half worth of work wasted.

    Ditto!

I have a few Ziterdes pieces and if you accept the flaws that they can have, I think they are pretty good.

Start a club! You can use the club funds to buy scenery. It won't be yours per sé, but you will use it every gaming night anyways so it wouldn't matter.
