Completed Chaos Warrior 1 of 15 to come....

Well as usually work was boring and rather slow so I decided to start painting my Chaos Warriors. Originally I was going to convert them all from scratch (well almost) but I really want to start gaming with my army so I decided to save those for a later project and just live with the current models and their static poses. After about 6 hours of time (including converting, priming, basing, and helping students/faculty with their many computer problems ) we have the first of a unit of 15. Really I probably only spent about an hour painting him. The others will be easier as I now have figure out how to do the armor (kept going back over it on this one).



The base was actually a last minute change. I wanted to do lava wasteland bases but they were far too dark and you couldn't really see the cooling lava cracks I made unless you looked straight down at the top of the model's head and even then you had to be up close. So I decided to go for a more standard base. I'll make some minor conversion along the way and say that this is the army in the middle of a small Chaos incursion.

Comments most welcome. Actually I'm most happy with my camera. Finally got the damn thing configured right.

I really like the tattoos, but honestly, the painting style seems a bit harsh and rough, not up to your usual standard.

Well, that's just my opinion anyway, definately table top quality.

Sort of did it that way on purpose though the cape and the sword could probably do with a little touching up as could the hair (the highlights seem to have become muted in the pic). My lighting kind of messes up his right vambrace. Makes it look overly shiny and and orange.

You're right it is table top quality which is part of the point. The harshness of it makes it look a little dirtier and rougher which I like for Chaos.

I really really like him by the way. The head swap is an exellent choice and the beastman weapon fits perfectly. I would love to see the unit.

Thanks for the comment so far. Now for some replies:

1) Yes the cloak and fur is going to get a touchup.

2) The tattoos are simply a base coat of Shadow Grey and then a "highlight" of Chaos Black. Doing it in reverse was easier for me.

3) The head is from the Space Wolf Accessory sprue. I had to sculpt on some extra hair to as he was mostly bald and I also needed to hide some of the more techy bits. The arm is from a Beastman Gor in case someone was wondering.

Anyway I just finished converting Warrior number 2.



Swiped the idea from a few others I've seen scatter throughout the internet. He's made from a Beastman Gor's torso and arms with the Chaos Warrior shield, legs, and head. He has a sword and 2 pouches (that plastic one and then a greenstuff one that's hard to see under his shield arm) to help cover the sculpting work I did on the belt/butt. That slight mess you see up around the back of his neck is hair. Anyway I'm just waiting for the greenstuff to harden some more so I can do touchups and then I'll base, prime, and paint him.

NOTE: That's not a gap where his shield arm joins his torso. That's an illusion created by the shadow and that white line the glue created. Once undercoated and painted it'll go away.

Ooh, shiny. One question, though. Will your Chaos army be made from mostly Beasts or Mortals? 'Cause if the dominant species in your Chaos army is Homo Sapiens Bestialius, you can make more conversions built on Beastmen, like the one directly above.

And oh, before I forget: Nice jiggery pokery and GS stickyness! Go ahead!

i love the conversion on the first one. and although the second one is prety cool as well, i dont think it would make for a coherant unit tbh.

and i like the paintjob. it has personality and that tattoo is a very nice addition

Yes I worry too about how this unit will look when it's all ranked up, but only time will tell, I would hope that the paint scheme would unify the models, but they may just be a bit too different, don't know really.

Also, very cool second model, can't wait to see it all painted up.

Hmmm. Well the color scheme will be the same and the second guy will aslo have some tattoos so that should help bring them more in line with each other. However maybe I could add a shoulderpad or two as well.

imo, bulk the top out. either that or make him part of a second unit of warriors. slaanesh mebeh, or khorne. he looks prety khornate.

or stick him as a marauder regiment champion

Actually, I would say this one looks fantastic, better than the other.
