This forum really needs a good sharp kick in the RPGing Mojo collectors ....

Anyone up for creating a few Inquisitorial agents, being thrown onto a planet and told to stop a mass wide Chaos rebellion and for added fun, the GM's character is a hostage a third in?

I know that is a potential spoiler, but the spoiler is there so players can have an idea of what type of characters to create and what to expect. I really will continue the idea of giving more power to the players and aiming at an actual RPG rather then a narrative driven by the GM which players react to. We shall see if this works. I'm using the 40K background and Inquisition because who doesn't love good ole Gothic and its familar.

I'm really up for starting a RP as I'm writing it now, but of course it depends on interest. I do agree something familiar might be easy/better

Still recovering from Mass Effect 3 ... The ending has not stopped me from playing ME and ME 2 and toughing out ME 3 for some closure. I am not so much disappointed with the ending, my complaint is with the gameplay and the fact it was no longer a RPG game, but a third person party war game. Scanning may have been a chore, landing on random planets and only have a 1 square mile to cover may have been limiting, but well they added more to the other two games. The half-arsed scanning, basic simple side quests, it felt ... lacking.

I enjoyed most of ME3. The shooting aspect was much improved although as you say they cut right back on the RPG aspects. The way you picked up sidequests annoyed me aswell, I can understand maybe one or two quests getting picked up in that way for variation but to have them all the way they were was pathetic. I found the final speech before returning to Earth to be very poor and then again when on Earth. I felt interaction amongst characters on the whole was pretty poor. The one thing I did really like about the game was the Shepard/Liara romance. Not so much the fact they returned to their ME1 roots in presentation of the sex, but just the way Shepard and Liara interact before and after. The voice actors and animators did a great job of making the scene very emotional and made their love believeable. It was also nice to hear them say I love you to each other...finally lol.

As for the end, i'm still extremely annoyed because i've had six year olds come up with better. It's not so much the Godchild (even though I hate it) as it is the distinct lack of closure. Five minutes ruined hundreds of hours of fun.

Finally have XBox Live. If anyone is playing the Mass Effect 3 online and wants to game, my tag is Slazton.

I've been lurking around the forum and slowly waiting for my work load to drop off during the summer. Should have some time to get the old RPG bug going again.

Re: Roleplayers of Warseer Roleplaying Forums

Anyone else feel up for a Mass Effect 3 RPG?

I've been going over it in my head and I think it is more than playable. If players took reference from the mutliplayer character choices in ME 3 with the tactical powers/abilities and created their own background we could end up with an interesting party. With the amount of baddies that ME 3 offers from Geth to Reapers, it leaves open for a varied RPG as well.

    My concept is this:

You have recently signed up with the special operations force code named: N7 Special Ops. For whatever reason you've thrown your chips in with this Alliance force against the Reapers and are not picky about the type of missions you are bound to receive. From what you've heard in the training rooms, its primarily take and hold objectives and even if it sounds desperate you are assured your actions are saving countless lives during colony evacuations. This is generally what the N7 Special Ops are tasked with, however, for this plot, there is another mission.

A secret Alliance tactical base has gone dark in the Terminus System. The Reaper forces have only just invaded Earth and have not begun their aggressive expansion (for ME 3 players, this happens while Shepard is forging the first round of Alliances and just before Priority: Tunchanka for timeline sake) throughout the rest of the Milky Way. This planet is a key human coloney and this squad is being deployed to either restore contact or collect evidence and necassary data files.

It will be led by an N7 operative and the rest of the unit is made up of player characters and NPCs as well.

I do not want to limit characters, but I will turn down Geth because per the timeline I've chosen it would not make sense. The Geth are at this point still considered hostile and an unknown enemy. But other races like: Batarians, Vorcha, Krogan, Asari, etc will be available and the character sheets would be built partially from our forum's character sheet and the character sheet the mutliplayer adds.

Eg: Vorcha Sentinel: the character would have the Cluster grenades, Flamer and Bloodlust and in the background the player can tool how the Vorcha fights. Was it always being wounded and forced to evolve or was it a terror in combat and loves to fight bloody?

Personally I am excited for this concept and if I have enough player support, I will run with this idea and see how it pans out.

I have planned out what type of enemies we will face and even the actual real enemies with the intention of exploring themes the Mass Effect series offer itself like character choices, Indoctrination, etc.

    I await interest.

Re: Roleplayers of Warseer Roleplaying Forums

Just an idea that I had that I thought would be better discussed in an open thread than via a chain of PMs:

I was going through SandQueen’s RPs to put them in order and forward to LGA, and realised that I rather miss the old group. Unfortunately SandQueen called a halt to the series in the middle of episode 6 and doesn’t look like renewing any time soon, and I was wondering if there might be other ways of working the “trapped” characters into new stories. Now I’ve ruled out continuing the story where it left off (even if I had given up hope of SandQueen returning to it one day, I have no idea what she had planned and wouldn’t think of guessing at it and tacking on my own probably inferior conclusion) but there are some gaps that could potentially be filled in with new material without affecting the overarching plot.

For example, there’s the ten-day trip between the end of A Wash of Black and the start of Kaleidoscope. It’s a short time frame, but there was a lot of interesting stuff going on that would be good fodder for a character-study type story. We had Gavin, Vincent and Kally all borderline suicidal, we had Skip going all nihilistic after Darl’s death, we had Arcolin and Marc butting heads, and there’s the reason how Van der Mir came to trust Zerlinda to explore. Marc and Kally even had hints of a thing going on (the aftermath of which would just be awesomely awkward). The plot of the bridging story might involve a mutiny by a part of the Mooncalf’s crew still loyal to Emerald, or a boarding by an isolated unit of ISTs during the delay when Zerlinda refused to jump the ship without Emerald’s say-so. Having to kill perfectly-loyal former comrades would certainly put everyone in the dark mood they seemed to be in at the start of Kaleidoscope.

Alternatively, we could wind time back a bit and show one of the missions the team undertook during the five years between Pembroke and Drowning. It would be a good way to watch the agents growing into their new roles, although the drawback is that depending on the time and place it would preclude certain characters from being involved.

Some former PCs might have to be sidelined, although we could potentially run the story over on RPA (everyone has an account over there, right?) and ask the missing players if they’re interested in getting involved. It also might be an opportunity to explain where characters who simply disappeared between episodes actually went.

Like I said, just an idea that I had and I’d be interested to hear people’s thoughts.

P.S - Five months since the last post here? Really?

Re: Roleplayers of Warseer Roleplaying Forums

Of course I’d be interested in going back to that little corner of GrimDark.

I think something from the five year gap would work out best. Anything with Mooncalf would be easier, in that all those characters are onboard, but definitely limited to character study only. Assuming we go that route I’d be against any potential direct conflict situation like a mutiny or an IST boarding action. If by some chance the story gets resurrected, and we are forced to fight former colleagues, having had a prior combat with familiar foes could detract from that moment. Personally speaking I’m not too sure how much I could play out Gavin’s part in exercise. He pretty much cloistered himself away from everybody for that journey.

Going back to those five years allows for most of those characters to stretch their legs again. Ella, Gavin, Skip, Zerlinda and Arcolin would all be excluded with this route. But you’re right - then we get to watch the transition of Marc, Kally and the other survivors grow into their role as Inquisitorial operatives. There’s some pretty juicy potential for character development in a story like that. Any player who became active post-Pembroke will need to create new characters. Of course that’s not necessarily a bad thing for any hypothetical continuance of the story. Then there will be recognizable people, and perhaps even former friends, as potential antagonists. Now that’d make it really excruciating, and possibly awesome to write, for our loyal renegades.

I'm interested. I've been around but I haven't really been in a position to be actively involved in any RPs. I have, however been following Eclipsis, just think I left it a bit too long to get Vincent back into the story.

I won't begrudge you it, Felwether - exams and the run-up to christmas have got to be eating everybody's time right now. I hope you were okay with my occasional NPCing of Vincent.

It'd certainly be something different (how often do you see a 40K story centred around not fighting, but a road trip and an astropath's birthday?) though I'll admit I'm not sure how I'd go about driving the plot of such a story.

As for getting round Gavin's anti-social behaviour, certain scenes from the Kaleidoscope intro might be redacted, or even just shifted to have taken place earlier during the journey rather than right before the arrival at Jupiter.

Only two of the above can't be got round: Ella and Skip, who were definitively placed in-narrative as still training on Terra and in the Guard respectively. I don't think the exact timing of Gavin joining the inquisition was ever established, so he might have been around (as a part of the stormtrooper force). Trying to include Arcolin and Zerlinda would admittedly be a bit more contrived (the team will have had to have been involved in the investigation on Marioch, or in Zerlinda's tech heresy with appropriate retconning of the heresy's date) and full of limiting factors like they can never meet Arcolin face to face.

I would certainly like to look at this - I'll do some more planning over the holidays and see if the upcoming "Replicants" might be modified to feature the survivors from Pembroke. If nothing else, it's about time Kelly Black got upgraded from "satellite character" status.
