The Red and the (un)Dead - Voltaire rides again! - VC/CSM Log

    Greetings one and all,

If you remember me painting first time then you've got a memory thats better than mine. Last time I tried somewhat un-successfully to paint some Undead and do it well, infact, I only did a tiny bit of painting on some Dire Wolves which are being replaced with the release of the new Vampire Counts book.

The Red and the unDead refers to what I hope to be painting in this thread, namely an entire company of Red Corsairs (ooh lady) and Vampire Counts. Now, enough of me talking - to the pictures!

    My tank drawer

For those who care, thats a Baneblade, 2 Predators, a Vindicator Linebreaker formation, 2 (of many) rhinos, a Razorback and a Landraider. What you can't see is the Land Raider Crusader and the other Rhinos as they haven't even been made yet!

    Lord Fly (WIP)

My terminator Sorceror with spawn head. I like the paint job on this guy but hate painting gold so I'm pretty stuck (you'll see what I mean in a moment.

Warseers 4 picture limit per post means I am going to be doing a quadruple start post of what I have here, with more to come as the evening goes on!

Some of the WIP guys - I have used the possessed for the Aspiring Champions as I always saw them as 'aspriing' towards becoming more beastly.

Finally, some of the very few 'more' finished guys...

More to come in a moment!

    And now, for good measure and to include some Undead in the first 'whack' are some pictures of my Zombie Dragon;

I am doing a bit more work on the Dragon tonight putting some final highlights on him - the base hasn't been done as I am undecided on the scheme I want to do for the Undeads base, or the Chaos ones for a matter of fact!

Also, can someone please help me with a good way to paint gold - I'm doing a very yellow NMM on the Sorceror in Terminator Armour and would love gold but hate painting it as it never comes out right!

    C&C are very welcome!

I like this guy, he is hasing a missile launcher. At first I thought that I looked kinda goofy but after some consideration I think it looks pretty cool

Sorry but that missile laucher is too big. The colour scheme is fine though.

Re: The Red and the (un)Dead - Voltaire rides again! - VC/CSM Log

My ongoing thanks for people and I was not sure about the missile launcher myself but something about it has grown on me. That being said I do prefer the ones simply holding Missile Launchers so I'm thinking of simply making a replacement marines when it comes to constructing the devestators/havocs for my Company of Chaos.

Time for an update on Lord Fly, my Terminator Lord, I have done the trim of his armour. The next thing on the list is probably going to be his staff followed by his back banner spikes. I'm still not sure what colour would suit his lengthy cape and which right army he should have - any suggestions?

Here he is anyway, still very WIP:

    ...and his one done arm...

    And the test zombie!

    Bah! Nobody cares!

    *ahem*

    I have purchased some new items to work on until its time for my Spearhead. The following are currently on my desk awaiting construction;

    A Mounted Wight Lord
    9 Black Knights
    3 Bases of Spirit Hosts
    Banshee & 4 Wraiths
    4 Fell Bats
    The Black Coach

As you can see, I have a very fast plan in mind and this lot is going to tide me over until the Spearhead and Batallion are released (of which I am buying one of each). I will post a picture of them later!

Looking forward to seeing more 'counts soon!

40k's not my thing, but they look pretty decent to me! You've done a good job of the gold - i have one hell of a hard time painting it.

Thanks to everyone for their ongoing support with this paint log. Its really helped me bring things along in these hard times leading to the release of the new book.

    And now, for an update!

I detest painting blocks of core infantry and try and do something with them to try and make the unit as a whole more interesting. I have been dreading painting up blocks of zombies for quite some time and can often be found on MSN trying my best to persuade myself to not paint them. Today, however, I bit the bullet and underocated a load of them and decided to do some more experimentation on painting zombified flesh!

And now for some pictures...some WIP zombies...

    I love raised zombies!

Maybe build the area around the arm up a bit with GS a bit? So it's got a little mound around it - it might look a little odd coming up out of flat ground.

I'm not able to judge your 40k stuff, but I like the zombies!
I reckon you've done a real nice job of the skin, I think some times it can be a real hassle trying to get the rotten look but you've done it.
Yeah I have trouble with painting gold too. It always comes out a bit watery when I use shining gold and too thick when I use dwarf bronze.
    Good work mate

i like the blue on the corsair, it contrasts brilliantly. for the zombies, i suppose its the idea of "how many zombies can i make out of 1 box?" looking good though
    4k Lizardmen - 3k High Elves - 4k Soul Drinkers - 1.5k Tau Empire - 2k VCs - 1.2k Imperial Guard

Big update time for this methinks. I have been doing most of my updates on Carpe Noctem due to the Vampire Counts army I am currently building but looking back here thought I would give everyone an update!

Here's some of my Vampire Counts:

As well as all of this I have converted a Helsteed, a Vampire Lord for the Dragon and some other characters. I completed Grave Guard and a Black Coach and shall be taking pictures of them tonight so expect more updates soon.

Nice undead mate- I really like the rank of zombies - really gets the most out of that kit while totally emphasizing the character of the unit. One question how are you planning to base the army? Looking forward to seeing your graveguard, oh and as othrs have said- really like Mcfly guy- very creepy.
My random painting log- 3/3/2013 now painting winter VC- black knights.
