“DEATH’S HEAD” - 3rd Krieg Tank Division - Titan Hunter Detachment

I'm currenty using an airbrush to do my krieg tanks, but how did you go about doing the weather effects as I have finished two baneblades, both heavy battle scared, but they have a "clean" looks, which I hate!!

Any info would be great.

So, what have I been doing ??

Seems like not much really but it's taken ages. On the positive side, my Grenadiers arrived finally from FW (only 9 weeks) so I was able to make these 2 dudes as the last of my Combat Engineers Sqd.

Remember, my Combat Engineers are based on the Grenadiers rules from the Vraks book so they have 2 demo charges, a heavy flamer and 2 special weapons.

Also done some of the 2nd sqd of the 150th Mechanised.

I have built up one sqd of Panzer Grenadiers so far.


9 random Grenadiers, heavy flamer is being painted

I am part way through weathering the first Grenadier Kreig Chimera you saw earlier. Here is the start of the Grenadier Chimera crewman.

Also, put the cammo netting on the Macharius Vulcan and started the basic airbrush job. Just done the undercoat, pre-shading and now the basic grey. This is ready for the pattern of German grey.



And finally, I am waiting for the Autocannon for the command Sqd for the 150th Mechanised Infantry Platoon which some of you may have seen on my other log.

So that's about it. Nothing exciting really. Building FW DKOK figs seems to take ages. Oh well. Plan to go to FW open Day, 6 Apr to get my Shadow Sword. Looking forward to that although the dude on the phone at FW didn't seem to think there was and DKOK suprises planned for the open day. So it must be other Chaos stuff I guess.

Commander Lance: Army list is on page 4 of this log. May add another Panzer Grenadier Sqd and make the Sqd in the Centaur a Panzer Grenadier Platoon Command Sqd. See what happens ??

silentsmoke: I read up loads on weathering in various modelling mags. If people want, I'll do a weathering tutorial for the Macharius Vulcan, seen above, if theres enough interest????

Am trying to get ready for going away to the USA for 2 months so must build loadsa infantry to paint while I'm away. Thats why I appear to be building and not painting too much at the moment.

Anyway here is the next (2nd) of 3 Krupp trucks for the 150th Mechanised Infantry. This is the command Truck with long range Vox onboard. I toyed with using a command car for the command sqd but seeing as there are 5 dudes with a Commisar and Autocannon I thought a WW2 german command type car would be too small.

First here is the standard bearer ready. I will fix the top of the flag pole later so it doesn't break in transit to USA or back.

Excellent troop transports. IG needs more wheels and these fit perfectly. Perhaps they could do with a little more 40k-ifying though. The headlights and frontal radiator somehow seem out of place.

Excellent work.
I'll be using this truck though: Hanomag Sd Kfz 11 by Gaso.line from France.
They cost US$ 60.00 a pop, but I'm getting one, modyfing the truck to better fit the 40K look, beefing up the wheels and using wheels in the rear instead of tracks and cast a couple of models myself. I'll make a modular cargo system, where I can get a container in the back for a command truck for example or have two rows of seats and a soft cover to put troops in.

Grenadier Schultz was shouting from the cupola of the Chimera. Kessler sprang to his feet and looked to the South where Schultz was pointing. He could see dust on the far ridgeline. It had been quite again for the last 2 weeks since the brief skirmish with the Chaos Titan. Schultz hadn’t broken his ankle as first thought, he had only sprained it. He was now glued to the cupola of the Chimera as punishment for being such a klutz. He had the best eyes in the platoon anyway so that was the real reason he had been assigned lookout duty........................again. Where were all the Chaos on Vraks.......... certainly not in this quadrant it would seem.

“Mount up !” Kessler shouted. They had better check out the dust. It was from the direction of their own lines, but just to be sure.............................. The rest of the detachment was 3 miles back to the East, camped up and on rest after scouring this god-forsaken land for more Chaos scum. What were the Chaos legions waiting for............ why didn’t they come out and fight........................it couldn’t be good news.

Kessler was last to board the Chimera and the rear door slammed shut.

Your tanks are looking great dude.

Not really wanting to seem like an idiot here, but what are the wholes at the back of the chimera for, in your conversion? I know that normally they are for the lasguns but in your case they are empty.

CaptainSenioris: The holes at the back are vents and if you look closely at the picture of the back of the Chimera picky, you will see slotted vents inside the 2 round holes and the large rectangular hole. These slotted areas are suppossed to be vent slots which can be open or closed to allow air into the crew compartment or seal it in combat.

I'm doing something similar with my Chimeras and the holes at the back are giving me allot of trouble trying to work out how to cover them. If it is possible would you mind me borrowing the vent idea for the round holes and maybe some pointers on how to make them.
