Re: mrtn's Southlands Beastmen (and more)

Thanks Monsterzonk. No, don't think I'll add feathers. I've even thought about transplanting the tribe to the eastern steppes (north of the Mountains of Mourn), as that would make the inclusion of my mortal troops more likely, and the beastmen can still look the same.

I played another game against the Lizardmen of my friend today, and had a blast.

In this shot my big herd has stood the charge from his saurus cavalry, and my knights are ready to slam into their flank:

It was very bloody, after turn five he didn't have anything left on the table. I still had my Chosen Undivided Knights, one out of ten Khorngors, my general and the standardbearer and one ungor from my biggest herd. The stars of my army were yet again may Khorngors, they took out about 650 of his points, and the armies were 1300 p to start with, so that's half his army.
He has bought a new gaming mat and some hills, so this was the first time it really looked like a proper gaming table with nice terrain and two mostly painted armies.

I'd be careful with the army composition. The new Daemon Army cannot include Mortals or Beastmen (shame!! ), so I presume that this will soon apply to Mortals and Beastmen, too... Ah, well...

Anyways, I like the look of your army. And congrats on the win!

    Cheers,

Ah, that makes all the difference. Having a proper gaming table is a great joy, especially with all that nice terrain of yours. The huts look great, do you know which company made them?

Thanks. Luckily enough I'm playing with a guy who's said that I can keep mixing the armies, whatever GW do to destroy them. I'm not happy with the direction the rumours make out the way the armies are heading...

I'm working on getting a playable mortal army, however, now I'm making a "Marauder" unit with OOP beastmen.

Thanks. As I bought the huts (unused) second hand, I had to google for them, apparently they're made by Scotia/Grendel (UK company) and are called "Barbarian Huts". I've seen them for £12, double what I paid.

I'll work on my "OOP beastmen as marauders with LA, HW and shield" unit in the mean time, until we know more.

Edit: These will all get static grass, and the "chaos bishop" will maybe get a shield.
Where are these miniatures from? They look very cool IMO.

    Thanks Putty.

Just to show you what I'm working on, here's my marauder unit. Instead of gimp-vikings I use OOP metal beastmen. Five of them are finished since a long time, and five are just finished, they just need shields and static grass.

That's alot of chaos goodness going on there! Love the herdstone. Any chances of knowing what you plan to do next? Shaggoth? Dragon Ogres? I have to agree with Sigur about the knights, some of the plates could do with a little definition. Maybe an extreme highlight of Blood red down the edges to contrast with the with the dark colours? That would make them stand out loads. Anywho, cheers for you comments on my log.

    Keep this coming!

Where did you get the female minotaur? It looks really cool

I really like what you are doing with the Beastmen 'Marauders', it is very characterful and fitting for the army. I can't wait to see them done. Nice job.
Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law

I'm hoping to stay motivated to finish painting an army, or three.... (Update: 10/1/09!)

Anyone in Knoxville, TN wanting to play a game of fantasy, PM me!

Re: mrtn's Southlands Beastmen (and more)

    Thanks friends.
I've finished ten of the "marauders". They're finished, apart from adding static grass and one shield.

I've also constructed some mortal heroes so I can make a HoC army. I put together Archaon yesterday, based a guy on foot, and converted this guy:

He will get a normal CW shield too.

I love beastmen and you've got some great classic GW minis in there as well as some really interesting peices from other companies.

I too really like the Cultists, I've not heard of Ral Partha, where abouts are they based? Might have a look at them myself one day.

The Gor "marauders" are fantastic. I really like how you used the yellows on the skin tone.

Looking good, looking really good. You know you have the musician in the third rank right? Just checking...

The marauders look real good. Not usually a fan of the older minis, but the work you've done is real nice.

Not sure about the head choice of the conversion model. It seems a little high with the green stuff. Actually, the torso of that model seems really large compared to the legs as well, which seem bent inwards a bit much. Just me? I think it could use a cape too. Just my opinion.

Look forwards to archaon. Keep it up!

Great job on the "marauders".As for the Archaon conversion I agree with Nightsword about the strange long neck but IIRC there was a mutation "long neck" in the good old Realms of Chaos On the other hand if you would add some throat guard plate as those in the Empire Generals kit he should look nice and straighten but I'm no expert in chaos warriors anywayKeep it up.

    Cheers

Thank you. Ral Partha are based in the UK. They have quite a bit of fun stuff for sale, even though it can be quite hard to find it, you can click around on different manufacturers and sculptors...

Thanks. The musician was painted a long time ago, that's why he's keeping back.
Yeah, I know about the head. There was a "pinning accident".

Thanks. Good idea, I'll see what I can do with him.

In other news I played my first HoC game today. Mostly Undivided/Khorne against the Lizardmen of my friend. Fourth massacre in a row.
