Well, it's just a theory, but I think it's cool too.

    Thanks!

I got inspired by reading about the new siege expansion for Warhammer and thought that I should finally paint that resin siege tower I bought a couple of years ago. Unfortunately it's in 25 mm scale or so and thus a bit too small for using with the Warhammer castle, but I think that a painted siege tower is good enough, even if they have to jump from the top floor instead of using the draw bridge.

It was extremely fast to paint, I started priming it just a few days ago. I painted it in stages, first all the inside bits and then the outside and the draw bridge.

The ragged banners make it look suitably chaotic. Did you just drybrush the wood? Turned out pretty good. My only crit would be the metal plate on the side looks a bit shiny, but that might just be the photo.

Beastletter's gonna have to duck his head...

Nice. Where did you get that siege tower from? The fact that it's 25mm is alright enough I guess. It's not like your Southlands guys will be used to besieging huge, towering castle cities.

That upcoming book really tempts me to get more into WHFB again (along with that High Elves army deal ). Seems to be a rather good time for WHFB players.

Very nice siege tower, in fact so nice you caught a squirrel with it.

Thank you. Yes, the wood is just dry brushed, this was a quick job to get a usable playing piece, rather than art. Basically the model has a few faults that make it less suited, so I just wanted to get "a basic siege tower" as fast as possible. It's too short, and the draw bridge construction leaves a lot to be desired.

You're probably right about the metals, I might add a wash or two.

Thanks sigur! It's from Scotia Grendel, but I bought it second hand, and it's built by the previous owner.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to finally be able to play with my castle, I've started to paint the last walls as well. Too bad my custom grey primer ran out, have to mix up something and get it as close as possible...

I suggest a small spring board for the top of the siege tower

Good to see someone else getting excited about the siege stuff, heres my take on it:

The last thing got me intrigued. You make your own custom primer?

Apart from that, it's so cool to see how sieges always get people creative and excited. I remember when the last Sieges book was released and there was an article on a Beastmen fortress in WD. I even played Beastmen back then so it was double cool. Back then I planned to convert my old Playmobil castle into a Chaos fortress. Good times. Let's just hope that the upcoming expansion for sieges is equally interesting as the one in 5th edition.

In the last pic you can (barely) see the stone thrower built on top of the siege tower, they can use that.

Hadn't seen your castle before, since I don't follow the tale threads. Looks good.

I don't have a good place to spray so I use brush on primer, black gesso. For the castle I mixed it with an old pot of satin white I had lying around and which I'd never have used otherwise. Now I need to mix up something with one of the other pots of white I have. Of course I could have bought a grey primer, but that costs money, and means I don't get rid of the satin stuff. Now what to do with the pots of gloss paint I have? Terrain?

Yeah, I hope to see more siege stuff from people.

I'm digging the siege tower. Beasts will have a lot of fun sieging empire castle with that sucker! Well done!

The red Orcs look suitably menacing

Of course, a REALLY smart and cynical dungeoncrawl player could get a load of these old plastics, paint their Orcs/Goblins in a variety of colours - and then give them different game 'abilities' eg. berserk red Orcs, hard-as-nails white Orcs, etc.

As others have already said - great siege tower.

Thanks. That would play havoc in the breeding pens though, you'd end up with small pink orc cubs.

    Tack!

I am finally finished with my castle, and since I received my Blood in the Badlands yesterday this means I can play cool siege battles now, assuming I find anyone to play with.

    Thanks, that's the idea.

I have started a terrain plog with some of my old stuff as well as a new WIP of some marshes.

Re: mrtn's Southlands Beastmen, Warriors of Chaos, Skaven and even more!

Nice fortress, I like it. Good thing you did some of the stones in different colours and that you kept it as it is - rather generic and not too army-specific. that way you can use it in any game and it won't look weird when you have high elves defend a clearly chaos fortress against skaven.

These days when it comes to terrain and such I'm really a fan of generic, not race-specific and robust pieces. Just works best in my experience.
