    Morthai's Eldar log

Hi everyone. In this log I hope to show very slow progres of my growing Harlequin army

I was always keen on harlequins. When I started playing 12 years ago, this were one of the first miniatures I have ever bought, even though I was playing only WH at the beginning.

I sold my big Dark elder army few years ago, and from that time I was not able to muster any real force (apart from patrol forces for Tau and Nids). Recently I decided to assemble myself a new army. At the beginning I thought about pure Harlequin army ( Jet bikes as a troops, harlequins as elites, wrightlord and some falcons as heavy support and vipers in fast attack). I liked the idea of having small elite fore (less minis to assemble, convert and paint) but once I started reading opinions I found out that 3 units of harlequins are representing ultimate cheesiness in current edition ( I almost have not played 4th edition at all). So after reading old harlie fuff, when troupe could account about 100 members, I decided to stick to normal elder army, just to represent different units as harlequin troupe members.

Beneath you can see almost finished, earth magnetized solitare wrightlord .The pose was inspired by harlequin depicted on WD cover. I also converted bright lance, so now it resembles harlequin kiss and used dark reaprs launcher not to spoil the silhouette.

Also there are plastic sketches for harlequin and a Herald (scout). The role of heralds is scouting before the troupe and herald its arrival to any craft world or exodite world. I know this was function of mimes but I could not find better role for scouts in harlequin army.

Apart from that, I attached WIP pictures of Trickters (dire avengers). For now, I do not have any ide what is their role in the troupe…

The Harlequin made from empire parts is genius. What are all his parts? The sculpts on the heads are great, I look forward to seeing more.

That is some awesome wraithlord posing, and I had never thought of using empire parts for harlequins before, I am loving your creativity.

    Re: Eldar/Harlequin blog

Thanks for all positive comments Tomorrow, if I have enough time, I am going to visit studio and take some better quality shots of other elements of the army I am currently working on.

Qwertywraith: To answer your question: legs are from old empire soldier, torso is from eldar jet bike rider, both arms are from HE bowmen and mask is conversion of dark elf spearmen helmet.

At the beginning I wanted to make all plastic harlequins like this as I prefer plastic minis than metal but Jess Godwin minis are so nice I could not resist buying them. Still I think I am going use plastic mimes as scorpions in my army.

    Cheers

It's great to see you're obviously having fun with the Wraithlord, plastics are the best thing to happen to mini's for ages I reckon.

Looks awesome. I've though of making eldars with the Highelf or the woodelf bodies, though I havn't had enough time or moneys.
Noticed you used the highelf legs, though of using Woodelf bits aswell?

    Re: Eldar/Harlequin blog

Today my PC has crushed, so I was too occupied to visit studio. So I add only small tutorial, how to convert harlequin kiss in 30 seconds. All you need is eldar guardian aerial (or whatever this bit is), tyranid warriors flesh hooks and an arm from wood elf glade guard. As the hooks have similar shape to original kiss, all that is need to be done is to cut all bits and glue them together. I prefer attaching kiss to wood elf forearm as it is easier to pin just the forearm to the metal harlequin mini, than pinning tiny kiss to harlequin model.

Dromedar: Wood elf cloths are too shattered in my opinion to represent harlequins but that is just me.

    Cheers

    Re: Eldar/Harlequin blog

It’s been some time since my last post but things were a little bit hectic. Still I finally found time to take some shots of thinks I’m currently making.

The first is earth magnetized eldar grav tank project. The idea is to be able to assemble any eldar (plastic) tank using only one hull. On the pictures you can see the results. Now I’m working on the fire prism parts but my main problem is that I can’t find cheap replacement for prism cannon…

I also finished assembly one of my harlequin troupes, although they still lack shadowseer and other 3 members. I also dug through thick layer of dust and got my old harlequin models. New models are much better but they waited so long for the occasion to take part in battle that I just can’t leave them like that On the picture you can also see an unfinished conversion for a shadowseer.

And finally some sketches. Vyper inspired by Hortwerth’s conversion. A prototype for my jet bikes (one made 5 more to go). An Incubi conversion I made before I decided to collect harlequins. This dark and spiky fellow was inspired by Rackham wood elves (or whatever they are called). At the very end you can see a prototype of prism gun made for my counterpart of warp spiders (In my case they are going to be light effects squad) and 3 heads. On the right you can see a mask made from dark elf helmet (although his head is huge). On the left, there is a bretonian baldy head. In the center you can see the same head after some filling. It’s just the same size as other metal harlequin heads. Yes, it’s really amazing what you can do with sharp knife and some files. Stay tuned

    Cheers

    Re: Eldar/Harlequin blog

Love the jetbike: the dark eldar jetbikes are 100 times better then the Eldar ones.

The grav tank project is quite some project: I'm looking forward to seeing how it proceeds. To make the Prism, you could use some Chrismas tree lights: I bought one of those wires, with all the lights attached to it, from Ikea, and each light bulb (or led... whatever) has a plastic prism shaped bulb around it. You could use those, since a box of those costs like 10 euros... though I doubt you'll find any, now.

    cheers

These are some great conversions. I cant wait to see some stuff painted up. Are those heads in the last pic going to be masks for warp spiders?

    AWESOME!

Great work with the 'reaper' wraithlord- nice use of bits on the head! I would have given it a 'propa' reaper launcher though.

The Incubi is a very nice concept also- nice pose and use of bits. What did you use for the vanes on the back- and how did you make/ sculpt the mask on the chest?

    Ingenious tyranid kiss!

Keep it coming and help the rebirth of Eldar!

    cheers

That incubi is great. Is that mask sculpted on his chest? Give us a parts list on that guy, he's too good.

    Re: Eldar/Harlequin blog

Again thanks for the positive feedback. Thanks to this blog I have huge motivation to work more on my army (so maybe assembling and painting won't take years as was with all my previous projects).

My priority is to assemble a core army around 1500 points. First I want minis so I could have something to play with, then I would start painting and adding new units.

I'm going to mount all armaments under the vyper.

Ikim: Thanks for advice. I was searching for something like this but I couldn't find. I guess the Christmas period is over but visiting Ikea might be still worthwhile to find some useful bits.

And finally list of parts used for Incubi: The whole model is based on new dire avenger. I used exarch head but I removed hairs and plume. At the top of his helmet I attached end of dark eldar rifle and spike from wood elf dryad sprue. Larger spikes on his back are made from dryad arms and mask on incubi's chest was also cut off from dryad head. Pads were taken from tyranid gaunts sprue and extra armor on legs was made from genestealers extended carapace. Finally his weapon was converted with blade from dark elf spear.

    Cheers
