Thread: WarSeer Painting Support Group

    Re: Portent Painting Support Group

Well I'm here with a quick update. I've started work on my Lord. He's armed with a Berzerker Glaive and a Bold Pistol (mainly because I had nothing left to spend the point on). The Glaive is still WIP, as is the arm holding it, but I don't think I'll be doing that much more to him apart from those parts and adding a Mark of Khorne. Here's the WIP:

The blade has been staigntened since the picture, but it's not what I'd call securely fastened, mainly because I might decide to shorten the staff part. Comments would be greatly appreciated.

I would recommend shortening it in general. For a couple of reasons

    1. Balance issues. Put it on a hill or a wall, and you've suddenly got a huge problem. I doubt something that fine is going to survive a fall either.
    2. It looks more like a lance than a glaive. A little shorter might be more appropriate.
    3. Too long and Khorne might not consider it Close Combat.
    4. Something that big is going to be a bitch to transport for the most part...

Otherwise, nice work. It's refreshing to see a Lord without Daemonic Stature or on a massive base made from an Obliterator or one of the standard Lord models. Simplicity works well.

    Re: Portent Painting Support Group

That's what I was thinking when I was doing it. I thought it looked nice, but too big for what it was intended as. It'll get chopped at some point.

Even though I am intending to convert pretty much everyone, I don't particularly want anything overly 'complicated' or 'flashy'. If I want that I could just plant my Death Guard Force on the table. I don't really see Khorne as someone who's going to go to the hassle of making everything pretty in between battles. I think they'd be too busy looking for someone to get laid into again. That's what I want the look of my Khorne boys to come across as.

It's interesting that you mentioned Daemonic Stature, because the alternative was a Statured Lord, dropping some of the kit that this one has for it. He'd have been done up from the Inquisitor Scale Space Marine though, and the only one I have is going to be done up for my Death Guard... Maybe with time though...

Anyway heres Engels request, still tatty pics but i expect to get a digital cam at some point...

    Crux of termie sarge:

Nice work, Marsekay. Even with the webcam (Which is INFINITELY better than my webcam I might add ) the gems look different from other peoples'. They look nice and shiney. Cool looking.

I really like how you've done sort of an inverse power sword look with light metal and black lightening. The bronze detail works really well with the Fists, especially on the Assault Cannon. I look forward to seeing more.

In regards to symbols - You could always order the Fist shoulderpads from Mail Order, and green stuff cast it onto your current termies. Repainting a little bit of the shoulderpad shouldn't disrupt the colour, and it'd look ace.

uhm.....isn't it possible to write down a personal opinion on another one's painting? Okay, this one was ....definite, but an opinion nonetheless.

@Marsekay: I also thought so when I read it first.

Hmmm... this thread seems to be sinking a bit. Maybe I'll just bump it.

Here's my new Carnosaur if anyone's interested.

    Re: Portent Painting Support Group

Well, my two other boxes Terminators (Plus bitz for conversion) are coming tomorrow, so I decided to get some other Marines done before the Termies take up all my time. Believe me, they will.

So I did the Vets. Tyrannic War vets are have Nid stuff sculpted onto them at the moment, we'll see about painting them when the time comes.

First up, the biggest, most massive power weapon EVER. This guy I love, and the fact that out of all the Vets, only he has the laurel wreaths makes him look like he's done something seriously awesome in the past.

Second up is just the standard vet. His armour is unique. I covered the damaged armour and turned it into a chapter sumbol, mainly because I'm not a big fan of the whole "damaged armour" thing. It dishonours the spirit of the armour!

I'm a big fan of Mk6 helmets, and I'm glad GW tried to make this guy look like his armour was really pre-heresy with the studded arm. (One of my Assault Marines has one I made myself) I just like him. The magazine-less ammo is also a nice touch.

Augento - One of Maximus' horses in 'Gladiator' and a name that didn't sound distinctly Roman, yet was still classical. This was the first one I did this afternoon after figuring out how to do the white effectively! (They were crap before I forced myself to learn to do proper white on my Termie helmets!) I just like this guy.

And finally, the Veteran Sergeant. I hate, absolutely hate, unhelmeted Marines, so, this guy got a helmet. (In the same awkward pose and the original head. The Helmet on the back was shaved off and replaced by a purity scroll.

The gold looks a tad flat on this pic, but it looks fine in person. Probably just hte lighting.

Since no one is commenting, I shall point you all to my Assault Terminators.

    http://www.portent.net/forums/showth...7427#post17427

They'll be painted up here. Obviously.

Also assembled were five other regular termies, and I did this pose, which I really enjoy. A little clip of the leg and a bend and re-glue equates to a tight, running, low pose. The front portion of the torso is from the Cyclone launcher for some variety.

    Re: Portent Painting Support Group

Your termies are proving to be coming out very well Engel, although ) is right that that strom bolter also needs some attention

I like the running pose. I am planning on converting a box full to be all running (or actually moving a bit at least). Although the position of his left hand foot (on the repositioned leg) looks a bit odd. If it were me I would have cut the toe off and resculpted it on the ground (although its your mini and therefore you choose). The powerfist seems to still have a slightly rough back (from what I presume is from filing off the scull symbols you don't like?).

Anyway, good posing as usual, now then lets have them painted here instead Althouh you always seem to be painting up minis at a good rate so we'll probably see them soon
