Thread: Forest (spirit) dragon

    Forest (spirit) dragon

I'm beginning to have fun with this project. It's an extension of the Giant Treeman project.

The goal of the entire army has been to create an army which is literally an extension of Athel Loren in Autumn. That means the dragon begins to transform into a tree, the wood elves have a pale-green skin and begin to take on dryad-like body parts, etc. This is the second major piece of the project- I'm still planning the Wild Rider conversion to which I have no idea what will happen. This is when the forest takes on a more aggressive tone as things wind down into winter.

Lovely work on the base and i really like that idea for the wings. The arms however i think would look better as normal dragon arms but to each their own.
Have you given any thought to using some spare branches for the dragons horns or perhaps even the spiked ridge of it's back. That could look pretty wicked.

The model looks really nice and would be brilliant except for one small flaw.

There some pink fleshy thing stuck to the base which just puts you off the entire model...

    ;-p

    cheers

Cool! You should paint it like if he was made out of wood.

    That's the plan, actually

I still have some more sculpting to do. The horns will be branches, but I've gotta work out the size.

It looks pretty darn good so far. My only concern is that if not handled right it will look like a dragon with branches for arms. Any chance of some close up shots?

As long as the transition between the tree-bits and the dragon-bits is smooth then it should be an impressive piece! Keep it up

Really really really cool <^-^> I like this very much!
I'm going to take a break from Warseer for a bit to deal with my bipolar, which is acting up ferociously lately. Please accept my apologies for any insult or offense I may have caused - though I feel my sentiment was correct, I have been overly aggressive and hostile of late; and I am sorry for that.

Hopefully I will return in better mental working order. Good luck all!

One question: does anyone know anyplace that sells like modeling vines with leaves? I've made them myself in the past but I'd be interested to see what's out there.

I got rid of the fleshy thing attached to it and borrowed a friend's camera.

oooh, this this a cool idea!
Is the dragon supposed to be leaping from the tree or emerging from it? It might be cool if it was kinda inhabiting the tree and this model shows his spirit leaving the tree to go fight.
either way, this is way cool

Leaping from a tree which has grown on one of the rocky crags in Athel Loren

Have you seen the Ultraforge treewoman? Sounds like it might fit into your theme.
Plog of Jericho - Wood Elves, Daemons, Beastmen, CSM and Whatnot.

MD: You got a christmas gift?
House: Yeah, 'cause I worship Santa. Or wait, is that Satan? I always get them mixed up.

    Re: Forest (spirit) dragon

The tree woman is actually exactly what I'm looking for look wise for some of my characters, or more likely the mages (who would be glamorweave, naturally). I'll see what I can do on the mini-scale, but I wouldn't mind more in that style.

As far as progress: I just laid down the primer on the model after spending the morning making the wings more leaf-like (cutting jagged edges along the wings and adding vein-like structures across it).

I'm going for an autumn leaves color scheme for the wings. The dragon will be the same color as my treeman-giant, and consequentially also the same as the tree which is attached to the base. While I realize this may not make the model stand out against the rest of the scenery, my hope is that I can give it enough "pop" out of the scenery with the wings.

In other words, I'm looking for the model to emerge from the base, not be imposed on it.

I also hit up www.woodlandscenics.com yesterday, so more is definately on the way.

Ok, here we go. Keep in mind these are base coats, so the detail will be filled in later. I'm mostly testing colors to see how it looks on the model.

Wow, that is awesome, I like the way you've made em look like autumn leaves.

Excellent work there, even for "just a basecoat"

WHAT?! Where's the five stars for this log?

That's pure and simple brilliance, woot! Way to combine two awesome plastic kits into one fantastic model!

Also, the wing colours are great, I thought of autum as soon as I saw them. Keep up the great work here.
