    Craftworld Arithym musters for war!

I have decided to build my Eldar as a new Craftworld. Craftworld Arithym!

I have chosen Bone coloured armour with Black helms. The inner mask and weaponry shall be Bronze. Eye pieces and sashes shall be Jade (snot?) Green for the Guardians and support/Heavy Weapon platforms. I am thinking to add this here and there on the Aspects to tie them to the Craftworld.

Firstly, I would ask of anyone viewing this Blog to offer any other colours which might be added to my scheme.

Secondly, I'd like you to tell me what you think of my scheme as it stands. I shall have my first Guardian posted in the next day or two, all going well.

My army at present stands as such:

    Two Farseers,
    Five Warlocks,
Two Avatars (One GW metal & one Forgeworld Spear caster),

    Six Warp Spiders,
    Twenty Four Scorpions,
    Eighteen Banshees,
    Forty Avengers,
    Six Scouts,
    All Phoenix Lords,
    Thirteen Reapers,
    Roughly Fifteen Hawks,
    21 Guardians plus weapon platform,
One Bonesinger (Which will be used as my forces Spirit Seer),
    Five Wraithguard,
    Five War Walkers,
    Three Wraithlords,
    Three Jetbikes,
    Three Vypers,
    Four Falcons,
    Five Wave Serpents,
    A Death Spinner (Forgeworld),
    A Fire Prism (new version),
    A Fire Storm (Forgeworld),
    A Mk II Scorpion,
    Two Revenants
    & One Armourcast Phantom Titan!

I intend to play as a Swordwind Army! With elements of a Dead Host. I have stripped all of my old models down using Tesco Multi Purpose cleaner. My old Avatar shall be my training ground so that I do the Forgeworld version justice.

unfortunately more colors are going the same way as Jade green, and the Inks too

They are making new colours supposedly, but they will probably be in the middle of several of the less used colours so they wont loose money. If thats possible for what they charge for the painting pots. Personally my favorite of the past paint colours was Pallid Flesh, which I would give a wash of Shadow Grey to make it look great for Servitors adn skin that is iritated with bionics and whatnot

I'll be damned if I know why they insist in buggering around with the paint range.

Getting nowhere on the painting front unfortunately.

Well. With all of the crazy jazz in my life finally settling down, I actually got to do some painting. Two and a half days of solid painting and I have a Guardian squad painted. Yay! Finally!

Any and all comments welcome! Just forgive the camera. Not a good 'un really.

    Colours are :

Bleached Bone with Flesh Wash then Bone Drybrush.

Tin Bitz, highlighted with Dwarven Bronze, highlighted with Shining Gold and washed with Chestnut Ink.

Orkhide Green, hightlighted with Snot Green followed by Scorpion Green.

Chaos Black highlighted with Codex Grey.

Sadly the camera detail is a little fuzzy but from what I can see in the photo it looks great, nice ciolour scheme. Will be watching for more!

Indeed. The camera detail abilities are terrible. These pics are with Macro on.

But I am glad you like what you see.

Russ, I seem to have a problem with blurriness when I don't have the right light(to yellow) or not enough light.
My pictures seem to come out better when I take them in the day time, next to a window, but not direct sun light.
If you have your camera's manual, look at the minimum and maximum distances that work for your Macros setting and if you have a brightness control for the camera.
The color combination though, does look good on your army.

    Well.

Lotsa stuff happened in life. Got distracted by Salamanders and then I finally got a new Space Wolf Codex. Did some Wolves but couldn't find the desire to paint. Then I read Path of the Warrior and it rekindled my interest in Eldar.

Swiftly ordered a can of Army Painters Skeleton Bone primer and tested it.

Arithym is reborn! I got my painting mojo back and swiftly knocked out a Wave Serpent. Nearly finished a second Guardian squad (but with purple sashes instead of the green of the squad above) and have 2 Farseers and 5 Warlocks base coated in bone. Also have 20 Dire Avengers base coated blue.

    Finished this Falcon last night!

Only noticed that the chestnut wash on the array because of the top photo. Will touch that up.

Will continue painting as I have a tournament at my local games club which I'd like to enter into. Have to get 1,500 points on the table. With the rate I've been paint though, this actually seems reasonable to me!

Comments on the (much clearer) photos of the colour scheme is appreciated!

I'm a die-hard Biel Tan guy largely based on the color combo, but I really like what you've done here. It's a pleasing scheme. Sort of reverse Ulthwe with copper accents. It totally works. Press on and re-shoot and post those Guardians!

PS - That green basing absolutely does not work. I undestand it ties to your green gems, but it's both jarring and so evocative of GW circa 1999.

Recognizing that the currently popular aesthetic of Graveyard Earth or Calthan Brown my be too close to the undertone of your white/bone color, may I suggest the following?

    a) Greys - Textured base goes from Astronomicon (darkest grey you have) to Fortress drybrush to Skull white with patches of bright green static grass. Paint base edges Chaos Black. That will look sharp and clean and even tie to the black on your models.

    b) As above for the base texture but try Dark Angels Green (or Orkhide) for the base edges.

    That Falcon is totally awesome!

However, I agree on the old style green bases.

You camera work seems to have improved also.

Thanks for the feedback! The Guardians were painted an age ago and I've been thinking about different bases. The green bases were done outta habit. I was thinking of a broken stone or temple style, with which grey would work. Might hit up Secret Weapon or Dragon Forge for some special bases.

Thanks! I am pretty pleased with how the Falcon has turned out. I have been tinkering with the camera to get better results. Appears to have paid off!

    That would rock.

Do more like that Falcon and you'll have a stunning army. I'm looking forward to seeing more.

These three sets appeal to me.

    Dragon Forge :

    Lost Empires

    Ancient Ruins

    Secret Weapon :

    Ruined Temple

At this point, I'm tempted to get some of each. Mostly Infantry Bases and a few of the 60mm bases for Vehicles and whatnot. The one with the wing is kinda cool. I'd paint that to maybe match my Swooping Hawks.

The second Guardian Squad is complete. These have purple sashes.

Gave them Adeptus Grey bases after the feedback from Avatar of the Eldar. I think he is right. This will form the base of any temple bases I use.

Due to night time photos, the contrast is a touch high. These Guardians are as warm as the Falcon.

Next up, the two Farseers and five Warlocks!

Again, comments and critiques are more than welcome!

I'll let others weigh in on the change of base colors but I think it's obvious that it allows your models to stand out much better instead of distract from them. And that's without any texture or static grass. I think green static grass poking out from shattered ruins in shades of gray would look really nice.

I like the first two base options, probably the second best of all. But as you say, they're all good.

    What's up next?

Now that the Guardians are done (at least until I order up their new bases anyway), I'll be working on my Farseers and Warlocks. I'm thinking green and purple for their sashes and, for those who have them, crests.

I'm considering trying to paint the blades of their weapons as dark green crystal. Could be an interesting experiment.

Work on the Seers continues apace! This is tonights action.

They are slightly further along. If everything goes to plan, they will be ready tomorrow night. Biggest question is, do they need a bit more bone? I don't really think so but still wanna know what others think.

    Then.......Dire Avengers! 20 of them!

Also, I intend to show the Wave Serpent. Thought I believe the gems need redoing. Will also look to have two more Wave Serpents and a Prism done fairly soon. Got two new cans of Army Paainter Skeleton Bone.

    This stuff is awesome!

Yes, I think they do need more Bone. Too much Ogryn Flesh (?) showing through.

Are the unpainted white areas going to be painted black with grey highlights?
