It has allowed the expansion of the Hives Air Support with two Harpies (seen in battle against the Evil Dark Eldar)

Additional psychic support with a Maleceptor and two Toxicrene's (not pictured) getting ready to be painted.

The Hive also felt it needed some much need mid sized Close Combat units and HQ Support so it has allowed the spawn of a CC Warrior brood and three new Primes.

    Finally a new big guy.

    The DIMACHAERON.

    Ready for its wash!

It was not a fun model to put together!

    Primed ready for Undercoat,

So work continues on the army.

As of tonight, I have finished my warrirors albut their swords. I am trying something new with them involving Lahmain medium and my first test was a fail. I will explain all when they are finished.

As a reward for painting 12 new warriors I have rewarded myself with a MC and have begun the Maleceptor getting down its base colours.

More updates in the next day or so god willing.

OK, so here is the update.

I have finished my three Primes. Two standard builds to accompany my deathspitter units and a third close assault build.

With these Warriors since they all have boneswords I wanted to push myself a little and do something snazzy with the swords. After reading about on forums how to blend etc, I came across some guides and uses of GW's medium paint. After a little experimentation I really liked the effect I got in terms of blending and decided to run with it on the Warriors and to be honest I am really happy with it.

I also decided to try at edge highlighting. Whilst relatively easy, I am not the neatest painter in the world and it is a bit wonky in a few places but for my first ever attempt at this I am really happy with it. Only bad point was the time it took. These 21 swords probably took best part of 12 - 16 hours work, a lot slower than I am use too. Thank god I didn't do this from day one, I don't think I would have got the place I am with this army otherwise.

    Technique/Colours

    Base: Abaddon Black
    Layer 1: Calidan Green
Many Coats: Warpstone Glow Mix mixed with Lahmian Medium to a milk consistency with multiple coats used to build up a strong colour
    Edge Coat 1: Warpstone Glow
Edge Coat 2: Subtle use of Moot Green

Anyhow: Pictures Here are my 9 CC Warriors

Sorry for Photo Quality - I take these on a naff phone. I am considering getting hold of a better camera and light tent. Whilst not the best painter in the world, I don't think my photos do my models any justice.

What's this, yet more updates you say??!

Yes, after something like 7 years, I finally finished my Hormagaunt nest. No longer in the rules, but a sweet model; here it is.

I have also made a start of my three new Tyrant Guard

And I am currently concentrating on my Maleceptor as a reward for completing the Warriors.

I am trying new techniques (for me) again and have layered the paint on the 'brains' I have also started the first stage of highlighting the skin and carapace. Again the photos don't do my painting any justice. The greens for example in actuality is more of a sea green in colour with a good range of tones. The black as well is Matt in real life and doesn't have the gloss the pictures give it.

C&C always welcome and would be appreciated.

Since I'd completed a big model, I had to complete a squad.

As you know I choose to complete my failcast Tyrant Guard.

    Job done.

Very nice work Alex_H, I like how you reward yourself with a large or special model after getting through Rank and File.

Your paint scheme is simple yet effective.

    Cheers,

    CB

    Thanks for the kind words.

To be honest without forcing myself to paint with my imposed reward scheme I'd just paint MCs all day long and end with a half painting army and build up on gaunt backlog then probably loose interest/get overwhelmed.

Well I've started on the Dimachaeron. Finding it a bitch to paint. Its stance and flailing limbs at all angles is making it difficult to get my brush in at the right angles and getting the model to rest (so I don't have to hold it) is proving difficult.

Anyway, here is a quick WIP.

The Dimachaeron is complete . That was not a fun model to paint. Not sure how I feel about it.

On the plus side, I experimented with GW's new 'Valhallan Blizzard". Call me impressed.

    C&C welcome.

The log is going to go quiet for the next few weeks as I will be studying for an exam. But I will return.
