These are nice and I'm glad the codex (army book) is back in the box sets again. However, I think that this was a missed opportunity. The model options in the sets are basically identical. If they were made to compliment each other I would buy both. But since they're so similar, I'll just have to pick one and wait for the book that's in the other. But a Tzeentch/Khorne theme for 40k and a Nurgle/Slaanesh theme for Warhammer (or vise versa) would have been original thinking.

For the first time in recent memory I'm not tempted by an advanced release army set (meh, this 'spearhead' stuff can be for the newbies. ). It could be the huge overabundance of character models that I'm not really interested in, or it could be the general naff state of the models (Bloodthirsters and Soulgrinder the exceptions).

I think I'll spend my £160 elsewhere this time ...

I'm thinking about picking up the spearhead but I already have more than enough troops so I only want the new models and discounting them from the set I can't work out if its good value or not.

Why, God, why? I would so want to get the WHFB daemon armybook and even the 40K codex, along with daemonettes (for bits), but I don't give a hoot in hell for the rest of the stuff and I really don't have £125-160 to be thrown out just like that. Seems I have to just wait for the books to hit the stores and buy mine then.

If it's anything like the Ork Spearhead, there will be little, if any, savings by buying the set rather than waiting and buying them individually. With the spearhead, you just get the new models before their general release (making you feel special). I passed on the Ork Spearhead, myself, and waited for the general release.

Because the Daemon Spearhead contains more characters (the Masque, Epidemus, Karanak, etc.) and all-in-one units (Soulgrinder), you may find the spearhead a reasonable purchase (whereas the Ork one wasn't for me--mostly partial units, yay!).

Here's an interesting observation: have a look at the Spearhead boxes. The fantasy one shows the figures with round bases, not the normal square slotta base. Mistake or intentional? Do you think it's going to come with both bases?

AFAIK, its all metal bar the daemonettes, bloodletters and soulgrinder.
