    Re: Sigur's sci-fi project log (a Space Marine, Orks, randomness guaranteed!)

    @Aulbath: Thanks for the suggestion. I signed up there and posted stuff. Also thanks for your e-mail, I'll answer it shortly.

    @Ronin[XiC]: Sure, he's a happy wolf!

    @Hammer49: Many thanks for the comment and suggeting B&C.

    Holy cow, it's highest time for an update in here!

    First off, sorry for the lack of updates lately. In the past weeks I wrote many e-mails, worked on a project I can't post yet but plan to post during the holidays which took a lot of time to do, Finished a few older things of the Sci-Fi kind and so on. There's sad news as well - the Chaos Dwarfs commission guy isn't reporting back. Last thing I heard was something like "perfect, I'll post the miniatures tomorrow" and that's it. Nothing since then. I still hope that this thing is happening and I hope the guy's fine. Anyway, more time for other stuff then! Like a bunch of Dwarf miniatures I'm currently doing for Magabotato, a German tabletop video show (here's their youtube channel)

    First off, new pictures of the Wolf Lord:

    The "ROLF"-looking runes on the wolf's armour didn't really please a lot of people so those were changed. Plus, I added some more detailling to the wolf's armour and redid the base a little bit. Next thing on my list: add snow.

    I'm also currently doing four more Rhinos/Razorbacks so the Long Fangs and the Wolf Guard don't have to walk around on their paws:

    Here's the more fancied-up Rhino of the Wolf Guard, also showing the Razorback version:

    Stormbolters for the Rhino versions and other gubbinz are also mostly done. The Rhinos need some more dirtying up and weathering and the tracks need to be finished. That's it then.

    Dayum, those vehicles are nice. Liking me some black metal, the one with black & white is an instant favourite.

    Great painting on the giant wolf as well, however I just don't "feel" those wolf-sculpts.

    Interesting to read you are doing stuff for Magabotato, when I read their offer on Facebook I was actually thinking about you.

    Finally, the oldschool is looking forward to your mail response

    Re: Sigur's sci-fi project log (a Space Marine, Orks, randomness guaranteed!)

    @Aulbath: Cheers. Seeing as Magabotato get up to 5000 hits with their weekly videos, I figured it would be a good idea to contribute.

    @Crazy Harborc: Many thanks for the kind words. Happy Holidays to you and yours as well.

    @N810: Thank you. These are mainly hacked into the Rhinos though. Took quite some effort to overcome my doubts and starting hacking away when I did the first four Rhinos and the Landspeeders.

    So I took another stab at the Nightbringer. As you may remember, I'm having a hard time with this guy but I might be on to something now that I added a third colour:

    What do you think?

    I think its dreamy The metallic blue is superb mate, great NMM. The red works well as a contrast to the pallid skin and in juxtaposition to the dark robes and dull metals.

    The scorched earth of the base needs something though as its currently a bit drab. Some OSL from the scarabs perhaps? Some static grass? Maybe not but worth thinking about I think.

    @Hadriel Caine: Thank you very much. Glad this guy finally starts getting more positive feedback. I'm planning to add static grass but am not quite sure yet about what to add. I guess I'll do dead grass.

    I reuploaded the Nightbringer picture:

    Hope you all are having great holidays and enjoy them with family and friends!

    Oh dear, that beast is all yicky yucked....it's DIRTY....That's it take it to the carwash! Did, did pigeons nail that beast? Looks a little like pigeons targeted it.

    Knowing the ways several writers tend to describe Fenris, these pigeons probably are no bit smaller than a Flying Battleship and their droppings' effects are only mesured in "[x] times an Exterminatus".

    Anyway, I finally upgraded my main photobucket account to "pro" for a test month so all pictures should be visible again and I will do my best so it stays that way.

    Re: Sigur's sci-fi project log (a Space Marine, Orks, randomness guaranteed!)

    @Mega Nutz: Thanks muchly. :-)

    Alright guys, it's been a while since the last update again already. So what happened the past week?

    Wednesday: Sigur had a game of 40k!

    The first 2on2 game I had in ages. It was 1000pts per player, Orks and Space Marines vs. Tau and IG (me). It was pretty close and ended prematurely in a draw but it was good fun and really proved exciting. Here's some impressions:

    Turn 1 and Dreadnought 1st-turn-deepstriking:

    A bit later, the Dread has turned into a smoking hole in the ground but it bought the rest of the enemy offensive force enough time to draw closer:

    A mix of a lack in melterguns and dangerously underestimating deffrollas and big meks shielding them led to this situation:

    As I said, it was a good game. Here's the heroes of the game:
    Space Marines: The Dreadnought probably, for scaring the living bejeesus out of us for that first turn deepstrike combined with multimelta
    Orks: Quite surely the Big Mek riding the Battle Wagon with that deadly deffrolla. These things are higher up on my target priority list now.
    Tau: Ragedrone. On turn#1, the Devilfish was destroyed and all that remained was a single drone who spent the rest of the game zipping around, ferociously shooting at things three times the size of itself and surviving quite a beating until it was killed in a suicide run against an Ork Nob on the last turn.
    Imperial Guard: Ratlings. They distracted and fought an SM squad in close range firefights until the SM had to return to the main fighting due to lack of Marines there.

    Other things I learned: That Tau commander's frag grenade launcher gun isn't very good; Fireknife still seems to be the way to go. All the Ork stuff I don't use in my army (big mek with KFF, deffkoptaz, battle wagon, killakans) are good. Space Marines STILL won't do what I expect them to do (basically be static and shoot things).

    Anyway, it was a good game and thanks to our opponents.

    Apart from that, I FINALLY finished my new Step-by-Step painting project of which I couldn't show you anything until it's finished. It's an almost 50 pages in MS Word (including pictures) and is all about this guy:

    If you're interested how this paintjob came to be, follow the link to the whole thing over at my blog on tabletopgeeks:

    Would be grateful for feedback on this. Apart from that, I hope everyone of you had a splendid new year's eve and all the best for 2011!

    Excellent tutorial, thankyou Sigur.
    I've always has trouble with glazes and i think your tutorial has just helped me figured out why. So it's better to glaze two layers rather than wait and glaze all layers at the end?
    Also much prefer that mini with the white hair.

    Re: Sigur's sci-fi project log (a Space Marine, Orks, randomness guaranteed!)

    @Mega Nutz: Many thanks.

    @violenceha: You're welcome. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that connecting the single layers before going on to the next real different colour will work better. I learned that tas a rule of humb, the way that takes more time and is more unnerving leads to better results. I'm pretty pleased with how the face turned out. The sculpt looks a bit weird, the hair is way too long in the front (that's why I cut it) and the 'Eavy Metal paintjob made the face look quite terrible. It reminds me of the god-awful rubber-faces in DoW2 so I'm glad it turned out the way it does, especially with that smug but not silly grin. And an UM captain's hair has got to be white gosh-darnit.

    Here's a picture of Sicarius' backside after I was told that I should display this picture to get people interested as well:

    Those Rhino's are excellent, impressive work as always. Simple and understated weathering, and the inidividual touches are very nice.

    You've done an excellent job on the face, the first time i saw the pic i thought you must have done a head swap. The GW pic really does look awful, put me off buying the mini.

    I also like to display my backside to get people interested, definately words of wisdom.

    Stunning painting sigur! That tutorial is amazing and detailed. I wish more great painters like yourself would do these for us! Thank you.

    Also I simply love your wolf vehicles....they look amazing!

    @Earthbeard: Thanks muchly.

    @violenceha: ...and you don't visit the Wastes anymore because...? On a more serious note; the head almost put me off as well. I have to admit that the cheekbones really are too prominent on that head but it can be made to look proper.

    @npow34: Thanks for the compliment. Glad about all the positive feedback.

    Rejoice, masses, for the unforseen has happened - I finished the Nightbringer:

    Hope you like it. :-)
