Nice looking truck. Are you basing it on the German half track?

The truck is shaping up nicely (A bit too nicely for orks, eh? ) Can't wait to see the Waaagh's effect on it!

    Squirrely updates!

Trukk is looking mighty interesting now. Although it does remind me more of one of these than a military transport at the moment. It should be fine once you bolt some guns and glyphs on though.

The trukk does look like heavy duty trucks. (Got a quarry near by). THAT said, the one you are making....LOOKS like an Ork Boyz transportation enhancing TRUKK!!

Will there be a couple of hostiles straped on the sides of the trukk? Perhaps a couple of gretchins painted up like smurfs.

    Good plasticard work.

I think making it look like a dumper truck is a positive bonus: Being actively tipped onto the enemy gives anyone who survives the fall quite an advantage when they impact, not to mention the element of surprise. And it seems a very Orky thing to do.

Re: Sigur's sci-fi project log (a Space Marine, Orks, randomness guaranteed!)

@Tommygun: Kinda, yes. I always found the design of the earlier German half-tracks and armoured vehicles (Sd.Kfz.250, 251, 222, 232) interesting.

@Solun Decius: Well, I'm going to add rivets and such but I don't think that you'll find sheets of metal randomly bolted to the surface.

@Catferret: Squirrely updates indeed. And sadly, I have to admit that you are right. It looks a bit like this dump truck in your picture but well, Trukks aren't really "military vehicles" either, are they? Well, let's see what it looks like with rivets and such attached and a proppa paintjob.

@Crazy Harborc: How the hell do you come up with ideas like strapping blue-painted Gretchins to the sides of the trukk!?

@McMullet: Thankee, Sire. But it IS NOT A DUMP TRUCK.

So anyway, hi guys. I haven't updated in quite a while as I actually didn't get much painting or plasticarding done in the past two weeks. What I did do was doing some work on the Gretchins (some of those have more details than today's Ork boys) and a bit of work on the Warboss. I plan to have the Warboss and the Gretchins for my To40kP entry for November (about 215pts in total) so I should get going.

Anyways, I'll try to get you updates with pictures as soon as possible. You know, the problem about those are that the pictures are always quite ...similar. I mean if you see a mob of Gretchins and then you see the same mob with some skull emblems and horns painted a few weeks later...it doesn't really have an effect of amazing novelty.

Anyway, I'll keep you updated. See you soon!

So, people of Warseer, hear me! The Update gong has to be .....hit once again.

    *gooooooooooooooong*

Two pictures, the truth lies somewhere between them and a third, yet-to-be non-disclosed point. Yus, Gretchins again. They are almost done, I assume. Some of them need some more highlighting on the reds or the odd detail painted. What really bugged me about painting them otherwise great little fellas was painting pouches. There are SO MANY pouches on them. Such an incredibly high number of pouches! Pouches! I just spotted some more I still have to paint properly! AAaaargh.

mmm grots ... they are very cool. I rarely see grots with such a dark colour palette, but it works well me thinks. It doesn't make them look as dweeby as the standard pale skin grots with a lot of skin showing, and some clothing they have, faded out khaki or any earthy colour. Bold, striking. Osome. O for Osome.

Yay! Proppa old Runtherd! With a megaphone!

What's his runtstick made from? Is it scratchbuilt or stolen from another kit?

Re: Sigur's sci-fi project log (a Space Marine, Orks, randomness guaranteed!)

Sigur, those are totally amazing! I love 'em! The Runtherd and the guy next to him (with all the bags) are funny, almost cute. Old models are king when it comes to personality, and your paintjob really brings it out too.

BTW, are you going for olden Ghazgkhull (spelling?) and Makari too at some point?

Great stuff! That's some impressive detailing for such low-cost (in points at least) models.

Is that Mikari at the back, with the banner pole?

Very nice grot-horde. Loads of character and diversity.
Now you just have to paint up 9 more sets of 10+1 and you've got a Combat Patrol force

Re: Sigur's sci-fi project log (a Space Marine, Orks, randomness guaranteed!)

@MF3000: Well, thanks for inventing that word. The pictures also look quite dark; in real life the skin is a bit brighter and greener to be honest.

@Catferret: To my shame I have to admit that the runtstick is in fact the one that comes with the current runtherd. The lower part of the stick is from a Dark Elf Standard I think. Isn't it weird how nowadays there is only one Runtherd miniature whereas back then there were like six?

@Aulbath: Cheers, the guy with all the bags is quite cute indeed. Especially now that I finally "got" the model (with very detailed models, it tend to have a hard time figuring out what is what) and realized that there are four more of the kind of squigs he holds in his hand in his pocket i really like this miniature. Well, I also got three of them.

@McMullet: Thxm8! Yup, that's Makari. Sadly this Gretchin entrepreneur is holding his squig in front of his face so he's a bit hard to identify.

@Solun Decius: You know, this might just be the best idea ever.

those old orks look really good, I love the humour that was involved in the old orks their faces were so hugely different from they are now. Im amazed at how much theyve changed over the years.

Re: Sigur's sci-fi project log (a Space Marine, Orks, randomness guaranteed!)

I hate how I keep losing this log!!! I was just ready to comment on the awesomeness of the Cy-boars (which holds some great conversions), then we finally get to see the Super Cy-boar on big Rock done, and then you throw in some Grots! Man, you have been busy, and it is mighty impressive. The freehand glyph on the shoulder pad is really well done, as is the attention to detail with the Grots. Guess I am gonna have to paint my Night Gobbos to a higher standard now ....

Really great job seeing this come around. Can't wait for the fantasy bug to bite you again, because your painting has become even more impressive than it was before.

Oh, and the dump truck is great.
Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law

I'm hoping to stay motivated to finish painting an army, or three.... (Update: 10/1/09!)

Re: Sigur's sci-fi project log (a Space Marine, Orks, randomness guaranteed!)

Ahoy! First off, thanks for your numerous comments guys.

@Crazy Harborc: Well, uh....feel free to drop your weird thoughts in here to avoid your head exploding. ;-)

@tcraigen: Absolutely. No other army has changed so much over the years (with the only possible exception of Necrons). Before I started this army, I fiddled around with how to make the current Orks look more like the old ones. I sculpted them sleeves, noses, etc. Nothing helped; they just look WAY too different.

@fiore hellheart: Good to hear that, keep checking for updates.

@Nephilim of Sin: Nephilim! It's always nice to have you dropping by. Thanks for the compliments. In fact, I'm starting to get bored with Orks all this 40k and Orks from time to time to be honest. Actually, I'm currently in one of those "40k is becoming stale" phase. I thought of maybe having a game but then I remember that I have no army case with me which makes transporting the unvarnished models though London quite annoying.

Anyhoo, I thought of maybe trying to get something different started in a few weeks. Like painting some Sisters of Battle or Valhallans (once I get home) for a change. Or maybe even those few Dark Elves I still have unpainted. (a chariot, 5 Dark Riders, 5 new Cold One Knights) Oh well, let's see if I find the time. GW's been putting quite some pressure on me with releasing Codex Orks, the Dark Elves army book in 2008 and Codex: IG in Q1 of 2009. *sigh* Or maybe I just have too many armies.

    Anyhoo, pictures!

    Look, the Gretchins are finished:

    The Runtherd:

aaaand a question for you guys. What we have here is, as we all are aware of, my Warboss:

Now I need your opinions on the pattern I do the feathers on his head. I thought I'd go for something blue to go with the decoration on his coat, bolter, power fist and shoulderpad. I thought of just some blue tips on the feathers, like the upmost fifth or something like that. What do you think?

Re: Sigur's sci-fi project log (a Space Marine, Orks, randomness guaranteed!)

Brilliant stuff in that Grot mob, especially the Runtherd. I love the checks on the grabba and the freehand on his backplate.

For the Warboss, I reckon just a bit of blue on the top of the feather might look a bit... I dunno, incomplete. I'd opt for blue stripes, or maybe a smooth fade to blue along the length of the feather. Or... a whole bunch of different colours?

Loving the Runtherd's glyph plate. Very nice.

Regarding the feathers, I'm not sure about blue. There's already blue at the base of them and, when coupled with the blue dags on his coat, make that spot colour triangle thingy that is apparently a good thing. Having more blue nearby but separated may get weird looking.

How about a brown and black pattern like this?
