The HQ and Leman Russ co. look really good. I like the old-style company markings on the tanks, I'm going to do that on mine.

A suggestion: crop your pictures (or "cut to selection") to get rid of all the blank spaces around the minis. This will allow you to put up high-resolution close ups so we can see them in much more detail.

    Re: An Epic Adventure

Hello again, Sorry its been so long since the last update but life has been busy this week.

First things first I have finished the regimental HQ chimera's.

As you can see they have white and blue company markings but in the same style as the Leman Russ Markings and they are using the same camo pattern.

I now have a Infantry Platoon left and am awating for the following to arrive:

    10 Multipart Basilsks (ebay)
3 Hellounds 1 Baneblade (ebay same order)
    3 Shadowswords (Forgeworld)

My Forgeworld order arrived on Saturday and included my Warhounds (going for War Griffons Colours) and Hydra's. Unfortunately the Shadowswords were missing so I am still waiting for them.

If anyone has any spare plastic Autocannon models I would like to trade for 4/8 of them so I can have some support squads.

After I finished the Chimera's I started my 60 bases of Orks (OUCH!). Going for a very simple scheme so over black I drybrushed Tin Blitz followed by a Tin Blitz Chainmail 50/50 mix before I do the green for skin and red for clothes. I intend to use a black ink to tone to metalic effect down and the test minature came out alright.

So I guess you are wondering what I have been doing this weekend? Well I and a friend built a gaming board.

    and some hills / roads

I was really pleased with the way this turned out. We used three 2' x 4' MDF boards and put two layers of fine silica sand on it with Waterproof PVA. The sand came from the local aquarium and is the freshwater variety so there is no salt which can damage the paintwork.

Once this dried I used a Acrylic artists paint (Yellow Ocre) and watered it down before using a pump water sprayer with a mister nossel to spray the board (this was suprisingly effective, there was a little splatter but not too much and I achieved a very even finish).

Once that layer dried we Applied the paint in patches with some white mixed in with a sponge and finally flocked patches of green before sealing the whole thing with matt varnish (no highlight).

Anyhow this week is a holiday for me so I am going to paint those Orks while I have the willpower and then move onto something nice (Warhounds and Gargants).

    To be continued...

    Re: An Epic Adventure

How do you get stuff painted so quick?

I have only finished 4 stands and 1 chimera!

The table looks good, is that 2 paste tables or 4 underneath?

Liking what I see so far.

BTW, my little sis is in Gsy this week to see her bloke, but sadly not me... one day!

Looking forward to the orks, what clan are you planning on.

    Keep up the good work.

Wonderful Chimeras (the camo markings are nicely done) and your board too. It looks like you've got a lot of fun gaming ahead of you! A question, what do you use for the vehicle bases?

That's a lot of Orks you've got to paint though .

    Cheers DM,

The board is supported by 2 wallpaper tables and as my friend and I have a 8 x 4 cityfight board too (four 2' x 4' sections) all we need is another couple of tables for an apocalypse game!

The board was done quick because I had alot of help both in getting the materials and painting. I used the super budget airbrush technique paint the board and the sanding was simple once I brought 10kg of the stuff from the local aquarium.

Boards were covered in sand on the Saturday and allowed to dry (2 layers of sand for even coverage). In between dryings the hardboard for roads, hills, terrain was marked up and cut.

On the Sunday we painted the boards and cut more hardboard. flock was applied after the paint was dry and finally we used matt plasticote to seal them.

Reason I appear to be painting fast is twofold. I dont have a TV atm so I am not being distracted (my radio is on the painting table) and I use a production line when painting many models the same. So i use one colour on all of them before moving onto the next, this is quite boring (60 Ork bases 'shudder!') but does get them done quick. Also the nice thing about epic is drybrushing and inks produce very nice finishes very quickly.

In answer to Mr Feral the bases are thick art card that you can buy from any art store. I used a steel set square and steel rule to mark out the sizes (try to keep the mesurements to 10mm blocks) and used a very sharp craft knife to cut the individual bits of card out (use a cutting mat and cut onto it).

Ah thanks for the information. I'll make sure to keep that in mind for when I get the chance to get my grubby hands on some Epic goodness!

    Re: An Epic Adventure

Just a quick update as the roads and hills have been painted now.

The hills still need some flock patches to be truely finished and I have some city boards and forests that will be done once some Ebay parts arrive (trees will be Z scale Model Railway trees)

    Re: An Epic Adventure

    Hi guys,

Sorry for the late update. As usual real life has eaten into my modeling time and I have not painted everything I wanted to.

Unfortunately I did not paint all 50 stands of orks however I have done 20

Here is a little detail of the warboss. Thanks to DM I have also painted the teeth (Not as well mind) as I dont want to be seen as lagging in the quality department

So there are still 30 bases to do before I will allow myself to paint something bigger but in the meantime my Flak wagonz turned up from Col.Gravis and they were turned into my battlewagonz

But what did you do with the guns I hear you ask. Well due to the silly number of Gunwagonz I have aquired second hand I have made some of them more useful.

And as I have run out of room...

    Re: An Epic Adventure

    ...I'll make another post.

Last but not least a sneak peek of my work in progress. Anyone else hate the static pose of the stompa models? Me too. Out came the knife and some Orky know wots.

This weekend I and a friend had a bit of a nitromors party where I stripped around 100 of our models. This is a mix between my ebay orders and some older 40K, Epic models of ours that needed a new coat of paint.

Of those models I now have a shiney Hellhound detachment, 4 Thunderbolt fighters (metal) a nice epic 40K baneblade (with all the nicely sculpted reactive armour) and 4 of the new Land Raiders (really big bits of metal these but the mold lines were a pain to clean).

    Anyhow till next time...

Excellent stuff! I'll be keeping an eye on this. The IG command unit is one of the best I've ever seen!

Did you just paint the woods/grass on the table, or is that some kind of flock or something?

    I love the stompa conversions!

I did something similar for some old stompas to also make the WYSIWYG under today's rules, but nothing as cool as your conversions.

Hi CELS, The Green on the boards is flock glued on in patches.

Hey C&E. The one thing I like about the epic stompa model is the ability to convert it. So easy to chop and change weapons and combine that with the plastic gunwagon parts gives you loads of variety. The Stompa Mob is 3 strong now but I am not going to let you see them again until they are painted.

Currenty working on some terrain as my Z Scale Trees turned up at last. Also have some ruined city terrain being built.

    Re: An Epic Adventure

Anyone feel like the reanimator round here because I do with this thread...

Helly again folks, did you miss me? Since my epic break for the last few 7 months I have been working on my Tau (see sig for log) but now that project is almost done I have begun to turn my hand to all things small and tiny once again.

So, I left you last time with some sneak peaks of my stompers. The mob is now finished.

You may notice in that pick a stomper with even more stuff bolted on. This is my take on the super stomper. The idea being that a Mek would build a stomper and get a bit carried away slapping more guns and wotzits on, here is a closer look.

I also finished my second big warband.

And last but not least everything in my Ork army so far.

As you can see it is coming along nicely but there are still my stormboyz, Komanndo's to paint and a ton of wagonz and big gunz (remember those?).

I also have a gargant and great gargant to work through as a treat once the above are all finished.

My Guard are also shaping up with an infantry company, fire support platoon (Thanks Dancing Monkey) Artilery company and many others so I have enough to keep this log going for a good long while yet.

As usual any c&c appreciated, till next time...

Yay... GP is back and rolling on the Epic front.

Stompas are looking good mate. I'm going to be sorting my mob out pretty soon as I'm looking to get 4000pts of Orks painted pretty soon (see Firebase 9 for details) so may well steal a few ideas from your tasty conversions.

What can we expect to see from you for the army in the next few weeks?

    Regards.
