Spectacular work. I might try to do some too... what software did you use? Maybe I'm going with Freehand and Photoshop...

Glad you like these as well guys.

Wolf Scout Ewan - That's the idea I was going for, the sort of visual material that surrounds us everyday, but we don't really 'take in'. But sometimes, it's hard to think of 40k equivalents for some things. I mean, would a hive world have newsagents for a pint o milk and a newspaper? Probably not

Jon_Irenicus - Go for it, I use Photoshop mainly, with bits in illustrator (working as a graphic designer means I can do these when I should be doing what I'm paid for)

Galenartorius, have you heard of this company? Light Works USA? They sale kits that let you light up and animate miniature signs you make yourself. They also make premade ones too. I keep thinking about getting some for my City of Death buildings. Here is a link: http://www.microstru.com/index.html

A Hive world might not but an Agri World?

But as you say... what would a Hive world have in stead of a Newsies?

Hmmmmm... maybe networked info terminals or giant plasma screens scrolling the days propaga... I mean news. Maybe information groups such as "The Imperial Tribune - news and stories from your sector!"

    or

"Synth Lactose only 5 SI a pint!"

I'm thinking things like convenience stores you see in the back streets of inner city's. The kinda places we wouldnt want to buy anything from but for the people on a hive world is normal. "Stinky Pete's recovered meats" right next to corpse recyc' hehe. Or... "Pom's Provisions, tinned sump molluscs on special!"

"Garrets Guns" a gunshop, "Mk4 Kekler Autostubs now in!"

    That is the BEST!

All of those ideas are really great - I realise that I was thinking to narrowly before with just printed material. Is it OK with you to run with some of these ideas and see what I come up with? If you have any other suggestions I would love to hear them.

Here’s an attempt at a monitor-style news screens – I envisioned it as being set in a wall like an ATM.

GalenArtorius, I was thinking, you could print this sign on transparency film with a home copier. Then build a small box for it and back light it with an LED light. This would create a monitor like look. I have made my own stand glass with this transparency film before and it came out really nice.

Tommygun - That sounds like a good idea. Personally, i'm useless at setting up electronics like that, but I can see that working.

Re: Imperial Propaganda, Posters and Signs

I just tried this on my HP colour printer, the ink did not dry after 30 minutes! must need HP transperancy, I also needed some plain white paper under the transperancy to act as a difuser, might work just as good to print in on plain paper and use unprinted transperancy on top . . .
At 20mm high it was very small, maybe as a large street corner sign you would be able to see the lighting effect? like those big signs you see in Tokyo? -> Tokyo night lights
    But it does look good!
