Wow , one heck of a log , its legendary . Nice DW libby , beautiful jewels and the transition on colours , the only thing is that the gold chest eagle seems a bit flat , it amy be the wonderful blue rope on his chest that make my eyes not work , but amazing work .

Starks , good to see your crimson fist once again coming back to life , please finish this army , it may inspire others to stray away from UM and BA , and help them to join us .

Grat construction on the chimera's DV8 , cant wait for the paint !

Good luck on the log fellows .

Love the threads on the Chimeras, they look brilliant. The amount of equipment on the backs of them are awsome as well. Really fits the theme.

The Fists look great as well. Love the Lib.

how is it casted? does it fit wel together? it is one of the older models in their range how is it holding up to the teeth of time?

you might convince me to put the reaver titan on a longer term plan and get me one of those destroyers first, theyre gorgious!

A shot of the tanks as they stand. I need to seal up the gaps for the Chimera lasgun ports, and I"ll probably just fill the front gap with the smoke launchers, but other than that, they're done.

The hellhound has minimal stowage, for one simple reason: it doesn't react well with liquid promethium (or whatever it fires). I figured since it'll constantly be surrounded by a raging inferno, the crew would rather not have their personal belongings burnt to a crisp.

The Russes need a bit more stowage, but with the turret barrel so low, and the track guards so high, there's very little space to (the back end is full up with Forgeworld detail, which I don't want to cover up).

The Medusa needs more work as well; it'll probably have oodles of sandbags.

The sentinels all have armored tops, in fitting with the atomic atomsphere of Kreig, all vehicles are sealed up. Also saves me from having to paint any crew.

What about the Medusa? There is a sealed one now.

I have the Death Korp artillery crew for the Medusa/Basilisk, if I choose to field it, and they're all wearing gas masks and all that. If I'd left the Sentinels open-topped, I'd have had to worry about pilots (either sculpt my own Death Korp versions, or convert them to be wearing gas masks). Plus I'd have to worry about painting the interiors, plus the pilots...you see where I'm going with this?

nope, paint chipping...i still need to put the blue layers on, the highlights and the freehand, and then i can remove the salt and proceed to weather them further

but i apparently need more paint first as im short on the red and blue....

    Couldn't believe that this wasn't at 5-stars. Definitely deserves it : )

Really smooth Sentinel conversion Dv8, Might consider trying that, instead of only buying armageddon ones. Would also give me a use for all the tank rung-ladders I have

As always, great painting from Starks and legacy. I'll keep a close eye on this thread!

The combination of good modellers and painters in this thread is astounding. I'm stoked to see some paint on those krieg tanks/infantry. The imperial fists are chugging along really nicely, the capes on those snipers are beautiful even if the pics arn't that well. I'm really digging that deathwatch librarian conversion, those masters of the chapter models are some of my favorite marines.

Re: Tale of two painters - Death Korps of Krieg and Crimsons Fists

This isn't quite done yet... in particular I need to paint the heavy bolter barrel and probably break/cut off the dozer blade mounting point, either that or find a dozer blade to put on it, not sure I have any.

It was an experiment in doing a black tank differently. My army is going for a fairly covert special-ops theme (lets assume the hellhound spurts out a black acid in this army) Anyways I wanted to experiment with subtle weathering and battle damage. I need to get some better pictures that aren't quite so over exposed so that the dust doesn't seem quite so obnoxious.. some of it you can't even see on the model, but I guess the light just hit it the right way for the pictures. Anyways. any comments on it thus far are welcome. I was trying to avoid two things... edge highlighting it with grays.. and iconography, I'll probably put a small Inquisitors =I= somewhere on it, but not obnoxiously.

I should also note that this tank was used when I got it, so I didn't build it or work from a fresh paint job.

There's three.. But I won't hold it against you as two are primarily imperial guard.

DV8--> Death Corps of Krieg Imperial Guard
    Starks--> Crimson Fists Space Marines
Legacy40k --> Ordo Xenos Special-Ops (Combination of Guard and Inquisitorial Marines)

The salt works as a mask with a nice irregular shape. It protects the paint under it from getting painted by the next coat. When you remove the salt you can see the paint layer underneath where it was and looks like the top layer was chipped off.

    Gentlefolk

Looked over all the projects today for the first time and must say truely impressed.

Firstly... Chimera conversions... Incredible. I tried a similar thing a few years ago on a commision but that was on Leman Russ without sponson. However, the finish you have on your chimera's especially with your stowage is incredible, and i lift my hat to you.

Marines! Looking fab so far. Your explanation of he highlighting and glaze to create a blended coulor was fab, and the finish on the faces is great, getting awayfrom then 'sunbed' look that some skin tones get.

Finally, legacy! salt! never tried it before... going to go home and have a play and ill drop a note on at a later date to say how it came across...

when i first read what you said i was a bit sceptical, but now with a little hindsite and thought i actually think you might be onto something and im really interested to see how it works.

Ill definitely stick my head round from time to time and look forward toseeing your progress!

Until then... my regards to you all

I look forward to the results. I should point out though. It's Stark's Crimson Fists that made use of the salt mask technique. (though I'll probably try it myself soon).

For my Hellhound I used a similar technique of masking to show the undercoat through for weathering. I used a liquid mask applied with a sponge which produces a very similar effect, though in truth I've never compared the two side by side.
