King Thor's Painting with my Dad - Orcs & Goblins and Empire
Ok,
So this is my second painting log. Why? Well, a couple of years back my Dad almost died from cancer. I was too busy with school, so I wasn't able to spend time with him. This year, I resolved to spend every Sunday with my Dad to try and get to know him better.
I have also tried to get into Warhammer a couple of times. but each time abandoned it. This time I resolve to finally paint my armies, and what better way I figured then to spend time with my Dad, and paint the two Battalion boxes at the same time!
So the plan is for me to go back home every Sunday from the city and spend time with him and helping out my Mom. I am trying to get him to play Warhammer, but at the very least I will be spending time with him. While I am there, I will be putting together an Orcs and Goblins army as well as an Empire army, both starting with the Battalion box sets they released around 2000.
I will be leaving all the models there, so I will only be able to work on these on Sundays, while my regular log will track what I am able to do at home (hoping to start a new army soon, be it Dark Elves or Necrons).
The plan is to finish getting the mold lines and flash removed from a unit of O&G and Empire infantry and get them hopefully primed within the next two weeks.
Anyway, without further ado, my work from Sunday April 20th:
First I spent an hour washing each of the sprues from the both Battalions boxes.

Second, I spent time clipping all the O&G infantry and Empire infantry from their sprues while playing chess with my dad.

Next week: Filing and mold line removal. Not looking forward to that...

You could always remove moldlines for an hour. And then next week a second batch. But then again, if you do it al this weekend, it's done.

Re: King Thor's Painting with my Dad - Orcs & Goblins and Empire
I would love to get all the moldlines removed on the infantry but I know I will get sloppy after the first couple of hours. So three things for the readers so far:
1) My wife's grandfather passed away on Thursday, so I won't be able to go visit my parents and paint tomorrow (Sunday).

2) Anyone done the battalion box sets? Am I approaching this the best way? (in smaller chunks is what I am doing not sure if anyone has any other suggestions/experiences). Any advices/comments welcomed. I plan on cleaning the mold lines from the O&G infantry and Empire infantry next week.
3) Paint recipes/schemes. I need recipes for Orc and Goblin skin as well as Empire Uniforms. I am thinking of doing the Reikland (the bleached bone/white army) or Nuln. I would love pics of painted units along with recipes from any Empire or Orc and Goblin players who are willing to help out a new player
Thanks!

Orc and Goblin skin is fairly simple, i would use this technique.
Orchide Shade, layer Goblin green, Dark green Ink wash, paint the teeth SnakeBite Leather, with a highlight of Bleached Bone, and paint the eyes blood red. This is a fairly standard scheme and would be easy to replicate over heaps of troops quickly.
With the dark green ink wash, mix it down heaps with water, and put a tiny dab of dishwashing liquid into it to reduce the surface tension so it sits in the recesses.
Hope this helps

Hey Hallowed,
It does thanks. Anyone out there have any thoughts on a nice and easy Empire scheme that looks good? I'll be there this Sunday removing moldlines, so I am starting to get some ideas together to make the painting go quickly!

The picture of the patio + big warhammer boxes = paradise... jealous.
